Overview

The Dogtra 1900S WETLANDS is a 1-dog training e-collar system designed for effective dog training. This device is intended for humane use in training and educating dogs, and it is not suitable for use with aggressive dogs, other animals, or humans. Users should always observe their dog's reaction to training methods and Dogtra products to determine the most suitable approach.

Function Description

The 1900S WETLANDS system consists of a handheld transmitter and a receiver collar. The primary function of the device is to provide various forms of stimulation to reinforce training commands.

  • Stimulation Types: The system offers two main stimulation types:
    • Nick: When the Nick button (located on the top of the left side of the transmitter) is pressed, the receiver emits a single, rapid pulse of electrical stimulation.
    • Constant: Pressing the Constant button (located on the bottom of the left side of the transmitter) delivers continuous stimulation for as long as the button is held, up to a maximum of 12 seconds. As a safety feature, the stimulation automatically turns off after 12 seconds if the button is not released. The receiver can be reactivated once the button has been released.
  • Vibration Feature: The system also includes a High Performance Pager (HPP) vibration feature. Pressing the Pager button (located on the face of the transmitter) will provide a vibration for as long as the button is pressed, up to 12 seconds.
  • Rheostat Dial: The transmitter features a Rheostat Dial on its top, allowing for gradual adjustments in stimulation intensity. The dial offers 128 levels of stimulation, ranging from 0 (lowest) to 127 (highest), with no abrupt jumps between levels. This allows trainers to fine-tune the stimulation based on their dog's temperament and the specific training situation. The intensity level can be adjusted even while stimulation is being applied.
  • Range: The 1900S WETLANDS has a 3/4-mile range, which can vary depending on how the transmitter is held and environmental factors. To maximize range, the transmitter should be held away from the body, and the antenna should not be touched. The unit should also be properly charged for optimal signal strength. Heavy brush, trees, hills, moisture, and electrical conductors (like cars, chain-link fences, metal structures, and radio towers) can all affect the range. For best results, operate away from these items and hold the transmitter vertically above your head or move to higher ground.
  • Safety Features:
    • Inadvertent Activation Prevention: The digital microprocessor uses thousands of unique codes to prevent frequency match-up with other Dogtra e-collars, minimizing accidental activation.
    • Automatic Shut-off: The Constant button automatically shuts down stimulation after 12 seconds as a safety measure.

Usage Features

  • Turning On/Off:
    • Transmitter: To turn on, hold down the button on the right side of the transmitter until the LCD screen illuminates. To turn off, hold down the same button until the LCD screen shuts off.
    • Receiver: To turn on, hold down the on/off button until the LED indicator turns green. To turn off, hold down the on/off button until the LED indicator turns red.
  • Receiver Fitting: Proper fit of the receiver collar is crucial for effective and safe operation.
    • The medical-grade stainless steel contact points should press firmly against the dog's skin.
    • Two fingers should fit comfortably underneath the collar strap.
    • The ideal placement is on either side of the dog's windpipe.
    • An improper, loose fit can cause the receiver to move, leading to skin irritation from rubbing and inconsistent contact, resulting in inconsistent corrections. Dogtra uses anti-microbial plastic in addition to medical-grade contact points to protect the dog's skin.
    • For extended wear, reposition the receiver every few hours to move contact points to a different location on the dog's neck. Remove the receiver after 8 hours of use and check for skin irritation each time the unit is used.
  • Finding the Right Stimulation: Always begin at the lowest stimulation level (0) and gradually increase it. The appropriate level is found when the dog exhibits a mild reaction to the stimulation. The intensity may need to be adjusted based on the dog's changing attitude, excitement, or distraction levels.
  • LED Indicator:
    • The receiver's LED indicator flashes every 4 seconds when the unit is on and ready for use.
    • The LED indicator on both the transmitter and receiver blinks when transmitter buttons are pressed.
    • The LED color indicates battery life: Green (Full charge), Amber (Medium charge), Red (Needs charge). If the unit is used when the LED is red, it may shut down automatically.
    • When the Constant button is pressed, the receiver's indicator light glows steadily (green, amber, or red based on battery life) for up to 12 seconds. When the Nick button is pressed, the light comes on for a fraction of a second.
  • Handheld Transmitter LCD: The blue LCD screen displays the exact stimulation level (0-127) and a three-bar battery life indicator for the transmitter (3 bars = Full, 2 bars = Medium, 1 bar = Needs charge). The LCD is easily visible in the dark.
    • Cold Temperature Care: In cold temperatures (10°F or below), the LCD may appear dim or respond slowly. Wait for the display to become visible before selecting a training level. Even if the LCD is dim or slow, the transmitter will still function properly. If the intensity level appears frozen, slowly turn the Rheostat Dial while observing the dog's reaction, as the actual intensity from the receiver will change in agreement with the dial. Avoid rapid turning of the dial in this situation.
  • Belt Clip: A belt clip is included and can be attached to the transmitter by aligning it with the grooves on the back and securing it with Phillips head screws. Tighten firmly but avoid overtightening.
  • Test Light: A test light is provided to verify stimulation. Place the test light on the contact points. When the Nick button is pressed, the light should flash briefly; when the Constant button is pressed, it should glow for up to 12 seconds. The brightness of the test light indicates the intensity level (brighter for higher levels, dimmer for lower levels). The test light may not be visible below level ten.

Maintenance Features

  • Basic Maintenance:
    • Ensure the rubber charging cap is securely in place when the e-collar is in use to maintain its IPX9K waterproof certification (the highest heat and water pressure test).
    • After each training session, inspect the unit for any missing parts or damage to the casing. Damaged casing can compromise the waterproof guarantee.
    • Rinse the receiver and clean any dirt or debris.
    • If the dog has been in saltwater, rinse the receiver and charging port with clean water.
  • Charging: The 1900S WETLANDS uses lithium polymer batteries and a 2-hour rapid charge system.
    • Recharge the unit if the indicator light is red, does not come on, the transmitter LCD shows only 1 bar, or the system does not stay on when a button is pressed.
    • Only use Dogtra-approved batteries, chargers, and accessories to prevent damage.
    • The unit comes with a partial charge; give it a full 2-hour initial charge before first use, away from flammable substances.
    • Disconnect the charger from the power source when not in use.
    • For storage of 3 months or more, fully charge the batteries.
    • To charge, open the rubber plugs on the charging receptacles and plug in the charging cable. Plug the charger into a 120-volt wall outlet (or a 220-volt European charger for Europe, or a 12-24 volt auto charger for 10-volt 1500mAH output). Indicator lights will glow red during charging and turn green when fully charged. The unit will automatically shut off during charging and needs to be turned on again for use. After charging, cover the charging receptacles with the rubber plugs.
    • The charging pin inside the port should be straight and stiff. If it's wobbling, broken, or missing, the unit needs repair. Keep the charging port clean using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
  • Storage Maintenance: Store the units at room temperature and avoid exposure to extreme climates.
  • Troubleshooting: If the unit malfunctions, refer to the troubleshooting guide in the manual. For further assistance, contact Dogtra customer service via email or phone.
