This document outlines the operating instructions for the Dometic RH 131 and RH 141 refrigeration units, specifically Type: MF20-60. It serves as a comprehensive guide for safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of the appliance.
The Dometic RH 131 and RH 141 are compact refrigeration units designed for the storage of food and drinks. These appliances utilize an electrically heated absorption cooling unit, which operates virtually silently, making them suitable for various environments where noise reduction is desired. The refrigeration process involves the appliance giving off heat from the condenser into the surrounding air, with effective cooling being directly related to proper ventilation. The units are equipped with a thermostat knob for temperature regulation, allowing users to adjust the internal temperature to suit their needs. Additionally, some models may include a door lock for added security and a lightbulb for interior illumination. The appliance is designed for free-standing installation but can also be built-in, provided specific installation conditions are met to ensure optimal performance.
To begin using the appliance, it must be connected to a socket outlet and switched on. The cooling fins should show signs of cooling within approximately three hours, with the storage compartment reaching its optimal temperature of 6 °C after about six hours at normal ambient temperature. The thermostat knob allows for temperature adjustment, typically set between positions 2 and 3, though this can vary based on load and installation conditions. Turning the knob to a higher symbol results in a lower temperature, and vice versa. The effect of any adjustment can be verified with a thermometer after a few hours.
The appliance also features an ice cube making function. Users can fill the ice tray to 4/5 with drinking water and place it on the ice-tray shelf. To expedite ice cube formation, the thermostat can be temporarily set to position 5. Once the ice cubes are frozen, the dial should be returned to its normal setting. To remove ice cubes easily, the tray can be held under running water.
For efficient cooling, it is advisable not to overfill the appliance and to leave some space between products. Storing pre-cooled food and drinks is also recommended. The appliance is designed to manage frost formation automatically through a FUZZY LOGIC system. Defrost water runs through a drain tube into an evaporating vessel at the bottom rear of the refrigerator, where it evaporates automatically, eliminating the need for manual emptying.
Regular cleaning of the refrigerator is essential for hygiene and efficient operation. This involves removing shelves and washing them, along with the cabinet interior and door, with a warm solution of sodium bi-carbonate. After washing, these parts should be wiped with a cloth rinsed in warm water and dried with a clean cloth. It is crucial to avoid washing plastic parts in water warmer than hand temperature or exposing them to dry heat. The outside of the cabinet should be regularly wiped with a clean, damp cloth. Strong chemicals or abrasive cleaning materials should never be used on any part of the cabinet.
Defrosting is managed by the FUZZY LOGIC system. However, if frost becomes too thick, restricting cooling, the unit should be switched off by turning the thermostat to "0", unplugged from the electricity supply, and the cabinet door left open to allow the frost to thaw. After defrosting, the interior should be wiped with a clean, damp cloth. Sharp instruments should not be used to scrape off frost or ice, and solid ice should never be forced off the cooling fins.
If the lightbulb (if available) needs changing, the appliance must first be unplugged. The metal reflector should be pressed to one side, and the lamp covering drawn backward. After replacing the bulb with a new 10-watt bulb (obtainable from a service shop), the covering should be pushed back into place.
The door hang can be reversed if needed. This process involves laying the appliance on its back, removing screws and hinges, repositioning cover caps, and then reattaching the door with the hinges in the desired orientation. After reassembly, it is important to check that the door closes easily and seals properly.
The decorative door panel can also be replaced. This involves removing screws from the upper hinge, pulling the door and hinge away from the housing, removing the frame edge, sliding out the old panel, and inserting a new one. The new panel's upper edge should run parallel to the frame's upper edge, and cutting off the corners by approximately 5x5mm can facilitate insertion. The frame edge is then reattached, and the door is placed back on the lower hinge, with the upper hinge slotted into its opening and secured with screws.
For any issues, users are advised to perform simple tests before contacting customer service, such as checking for power failure, fuses, plug connection, socket functionality, thermostat setting, proper door closure, and ventilation obstruction. If problems persist, the nearest service engineer should be contacted, providing the model, product, and serial numbers found on the data plate inside the refrigerator. The appliance is equipped with overheating protection, and an authorized service technician can check if this has been triggered.
The appliance is designed to be operated by adults, and children should not be allowed to tamper with controls or play with the product. All electrical work for installation or servicing must be carried out by a qualified electrician or authorized service engineer, using only genuine spare parts. Altering specifications or modifying the product in any way is dangerous. Care must be taken to ensure the appliance does not stand on the electrical supply cable. Adequate ventilation is crucial, as working parts heat up, and insufficient ventilation can lead to component failure and content loss. The back of the product should be close to a wall, maintaining the required ventilation distance. Before any maintenance, the appliance must be switched off and unplugged. The storage of toxic or explosive substances in the appliance is strictly forbidden.
The warranty does not cover damage due to improper use, modifications, or the use of non-original Dometic spare parts. It is also void if installation and operating instructions are not adhered to. For warranty or servicing, Dometic Service Network should be contacted.
