Overview

This document provides an operating manual for Dometic Rooftop Tents and Awnings, specifically covering the TRT140M and TRT120E rooftop tents, and the TCA100 and TMA100 awnings.

Function Description

The Dometic rooftop tents are designed for use on passenger cars, providing a portable and comfortable sleeping solution for outdoor enthusiasts. The TRT140M is a manual car roof tent that can be easily erected and dismantled by two people using stretcher poles. The TRT120E is an electric version, featuring a motorized push rod and wireless remote control for quick setup and takedown in seconds. Both tents offer a robust structure and comfortable sleeping environment.

The TCA100 and TMA100 are awnings designed to attach to the poles of the rooftop tent, extending the covered living space. They are secured to the ground with pegs and can be set up as canopies.

Usage Features

Installation of Rooftop Tent:

  • Requires correctly fitted roof racks approved for use with the vehicle (e.g., GS-tested).
  • Load must be shared across both roof racks.
  • Tent should be adjusted to the roof's center, ensuring the rear door can be opened/closed.
  • Secured using M8X50 hexagon bolts, plastic nuts, flat washers, split washers, and U-shaped brackets. Eight bolts are positioned in total.
  • The tent should be mounted parallel to the road line, not at an angle, to avoid excessive lifting force.

Setting Up the TRT140M (Manual Tent):

  1. Remove the tent's PVC cover.
  2. Identify and lift stretcher poles (3) and (4).
  3. Connect stretcher pole (3) with U-shaped pole (5).
  4. Connect stretcher pole (4) with the base.
  5. Take out stretcher pole (2) and connect it with U-shaped pole (6).
  6. Reverse the operation to fold down the tent.

Operation of TRT120E (Motorized Tent):

  1. Remove the tent cover.
  2. Insert the power cable into the cigarette lighter.
  3. Ensure power is available.
  4. Press the "UP" button on the wireless remote control to set up the tent.
  5. Ensure no objects are inside the tent before folding down.
  6. Press the "DOWN" button to fold down the tent.
  7. Press the "STOP" button to halt operation.
  8. Ensure the tent is completely folded before attaching the cover.
  9. The motor automatically switches off when the pushrod is fully opened or closed.
  10. If the motor push rods fail, they can be replaced with supplied spare poles (92 cm) using a hex key and wrench.

Awnings (TCA100, TMA100):

  • Attached to the poles of the roof tent.
  • TCA100 uses loops, TMA100 uses clips.
  • Secured to the ground with pegs after fastening and alignment.
  • Can be rolled up and clipped onto the roof when not in use.
  • Set up involves clipping the awning onto the roof tent poles (from middle to sides, then front U-shaped pole) and adjusting buckle lengths.
  • Guy-lines are used to set up the awning as a canopy.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always check vehicle and roof rack manufacturer's instructions for load capacity.
  • Do not exceed 110 km/h with the roof tent.
  • Regularly check that the tent is firmly attached and all soft belts are fastened.
  • Do not use if any part is visibly damaged.
  • Adjust driving behavior for increased vehicle height (up to 90 cm).
  • Remove the roof tent before using an automatic car wash.
  • Remove the roof tent and roof rack when not in use for fuel economy and safety.
  • Always use the ladder with caution; children should not use it unsupervised.
  • Do not allow open flames near the tent.
  • Keep side windows open when setting up or folding down the tent.
  • Ensure no objects (sleeping bags, pillows) are inside the tent during setup/takedown.
  • Do not press the pole when folding down.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the electric motor or push rod.
  • Do not fold down during storms or heavy rain.
  • Do not pitch the tent in very windy or stormy conditions.
  • Inspect poles and joints immediately if any noise is noticed during operation.

    • Ensure good ventilation.
    • Use only lukewarm water and a soft brush for cleaning.
    • Avoid chemicals, soap, and detergents.
    • If the aluminum frame contains water, erect it to pour out the water.

    • Ensure the ladder is always locked into place and angled away from the vehicle.
    • Pack the tent down well when driving.
