Do you have a question about the Dormakaba Boom Barrier and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Dormakaba Boom Barrier, an access control system designed to regulate vehicle traffic. The barrier operates by raising and lowering a boom to grant or obstruct passage.

Function Description

The Boom Barrier serves as a control mechanism for vehicle traffic. When the barrier boom is raised, passage is granted; when lowered, it is obstructed. For boom lengths of 4,000mm or more, the use of a fixed or swinging support is recommended. The controller allows for activation via radio remote control.

The controller is equipped to monitor the maximum permitted force, which is set during the learning sequence. If the closing movement encounters excessive force, the barrier will reverse. The system incorporates several safety features, including the ability to connect photoelectric barriers. Safety devices (such as photoelectric barriers, light curtains, and induction loops) must be installed on-site to ensure the barrier danger area is clear before the barrier closes.

M8 nuts are used on both sides of the springs.

Floor Fixing: The barrier is fixed to the floor using anchor bolts (M12), M12 nuts, and M12 washers. The fastening point dimensions are 245x190 mm, with a cable routing of 100 mm.

Boom Holder Installation: The boom holder is inserted into the main shaft using two keyways. M6x50 Allen cap screws are then tightened to 20NM torque.

Usage Features

Operational Modes:

  • Operating Manual: The device is controlled via an operating manual.
  • Automatic Operation: The barrier operates automatically.
  • Manual Mode (M): Allows for manual control of the motor.
  • Auto Mode (A): Connects to 24V(+) for automatic operation.

Safety Features:

  • Safety Sensors: The system supports safety sensors (Emitter and Receiver) to detect objects in the barrier's path.
  • Loop Detectors: Can be integrated for vehicle detection.
  • Photoelectric Sensors: Used for presence detection.
  • Emergency Release: In case of a power failure, the barrier can be unlocked by pulling a lever, allowing the boom to be moved manually to the "open" position.
  • Over-force Reversal: If the barrier encounters excessive force during closing, it will reverse to prevent injury or damage.

Control and Programming: The control board features an LCD display for programming and monitoring.

  • Mode Selection: Allows selection of operating modes.
  • Speed Level (SP): Adjustable from 1 (Very slow) to 5 (Full Speed).
  • Torque Level (TQ): Adjustable from 1 (Full Torque) to 5 (Zero Torque).
  • Direction (D): Indicates motor rotation direction (UP or Down).
  • Angle Adjustment: The boom's turn angle can be set (e.g., 190°).
  • Error Indication (E1): Displays error messages.

Synchronized Boom Barrier: The system supports synchronized operation of two boom barriers (Master-to-slave configuration) for wider entrances. This involves master-to-slave power wiring, communication wiring (DN, UP, C), and safety sensor wiring.

Operative Option: The barrier can be operated via Push Button, Remote Control, Loop detector (Single and Multi-channel), Photoelectric sensor, illumination strip (red/green), and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance Information: Technical maintenance should be performed at least once a year or after 100,000 cycles, whichever comes first.

  • Routine Checks: All bearings should be lubricated, and all connections and proper functioning should be checked.
  • Expert Inspection: An expert inspection is recommended as part of maintenance.
  • Maintenance Work: Must be performed by technically qualified personnel.
  • Risk Assessment: For new projects, a risk assessment must be completed, and the required safety equipment/sensors determined.
  • Recurring Inspection: A recurring inspection and maintenance table in the test book must be completed during the first inspection prior to commissioning.

Cleaning:

  • Cleaning Intervals: The unit should be cleaned thoroughly at least once a year. Depending on environmental conditions, it may be necessary to clean the unit at shorter intervals.
  • Cleaning Procedure: Ensure all connections are proper. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Follow the instructions of the cleaning agent manufacturer.
  • External Cleaning: Clean the unit to remove dirt from the stainless steel as corrosion is possible.
  • Internal Cleaning: Never clean the inside of the housing with steam or high-pressure cleaners.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Risk of electric shock: Switch off the power supply and check for absence of power before cleaning. Do not clean with water.
    • Risk of Crush Hazard: Ensure all connections are proper during cleaning.

Recommendations for Protecting the Unit:

  • Check the state of lubrication and tightness of the anchoring screws on the operator.
  • An expert inspection is recommended as part of maintenance.

Disposal:

  • Packaging Materials: All packaging materials are environmentally friendly, recyclable, and separated by type. They must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, consulting with local waste management companies.
  • Old Units: Dormakaba units are fully recyclable. Regional and country-specific disposal regulations apply. All materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, electrical and electronic components) must be separated by type and disposed of by certified waste removal companies.

Transport:

  • Transport Inspection: The shipment must be inspected for transportation damage immediately upon receipt. Any damage should be recorded on the delivery receipt, or acceptance should be refused. Dormakaba must be informed immediately of any damage.
  • Load Lifting: Lifting heavy loads can cause serious injuries. Never lift the barrier single-handedly. Use a suitable lifting device and wear safety shoes.
