Overview

This document provides instructions for the use and maintenance of Dr. Brown's natural flow® nipples/teats.

Function Description

Dr. Brown's natural flow® nipples/teats are designed for feeding infants. They are an integral part of a feeding system, facilitating the flow of fluids from a bottle to a child. The design aims to provide a consistent and controlled flow during feeding.

Usage Features

Before First Use: Prior to the initial use, it is crucial to ensure proper hygiene. Users should wash their hands thoroughly and work on clean surfaces when handling the nipple/teat. The nipple/teat must be cleaned and then placed in boiling water for a duration of 5 minutes. This step is essential for sterilization and to ensure the product is hygienic for the baby. After this, it should be washed again before use, and particular attention should be paid to ensuring the nipple/teat hole is clean and free of any obstructions.

Before Each Use: Before every feeding session, the nipple/teat should be inspected carefully to ensure its integrity and safety. Users should pull on the nipple/teat in all directions to check for any signs of tearing or weakness. This inspection is particularly important when the child begins to develop teeth, as biting can cause damage. If the nipple/teat shows any signs of wear or damage, such as cracking, discoloration, or a change in shape, it must be replaced immediately. Small pieces of a damaged nipple/teat could accidentally be inhaled by the child, posing a serious choking hazard and potential injury. After inspection, the nipple/teat must be cleaned thoroughly before each use, ensuring it is free of any obstructions that could impede fluid flow or pose a safety risk.

General Usage Warnings: Several warnings are provided to ensure the child's safety and health during use. Continuous and prolonged sucking of fluids, especially those with sugar, can lead to tooth decay. Therefore, it is important to monitor feeding times. Always check the temperature of the food or liquid before offering it to the baby to prevent burns. Any nipple/teat showing signs of damage or weakness should be discarded immediately. Components not in use should be stored out of the reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion or misuse.

Nipples/teats should never be attached to cords, ribbons, laces, or loose parts of clothing, as this poses a severe strangulation risk to the child. Feeding nipples/teats are not designed to be used as pacifiers or soothers; using them as such can lead to improper oral development or damage to the product. The nipple/teat should be removed from the baby's mouth when the baby is not actively feeding. Adult supervision is always required when the product is in use to ensure the child's safety.

If glass containers are used with these nipples/teats, users should be aware that glass can break, and appropriate caution should be exercised. Regular checks for wear and tear on the nipples/teats are essential, and they should be replaced promptly if any damage is observed. Microwave ovens should not be used to heat bottles, as they can create "hotspots" in milk/formula and bottle components, which can cause burns to the baby. The bottle components, including nipples/teats, are not toys and should not be given to children to play with or suck on independently.

To prevent material degradation, the product should not be left in direct sunlight, exposed to excessive heat, or immersed in disinfectant (sterilizing solution) for longer than the recommended time. Such exposure can weaken the nipple/teat material. It is recommended to change nipples/teats after approximately six weeks of use, or sooner if they are used and sterilized intensively, as this can accelerate deterioration. Finally, a child should not be allowed to walk or run while using any bottle, as this increases the risk of falls and potential injury.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: The Dr. Brown's natural flow® nipples/teats are designed for ease of cleaning. They are dishwasher safe, but it is recommended to place them on the top rack of the dishwasher to prevent damage. In addition to dishwasher cleaning, these nipples/teats are safe for use in electric sterilizers, microwave sterilizers, or by boiling in water. These methods ensure thorough cleaning and sterilization, maintaining hygiene for the baby's health. Regular cleaning after each use is vital to prevent the buildup of residue and maintain the product's effectiveness and safety.
