This document outlines the installation, usage, and maintenance of the Dreambaby Retractable Gate, a safety barrier designed for domestic use with children up to 24 months of age. The gate is available in white (F820AL) and grey (F1012AL) and conforms to EN1930:2011 safety standards.
The Dreambaby Ret retractable gate serves as a safety barrier to prevent children from accessing certain areas of a home, such as staircases or rooms with potential hazards. Its primary function is to create a secure boundary, retracting when not in use to maintain an open space. The gate features a manual close system, requiring the user to actively engage the locking mechanism. It is designed to be installed in various configurations, including inside or outside door openings, at the top or bottom of stairs, and can accommodate skirting boards through the use of included spacers. The gate's retractable design allows for flexibility in space management, as it can cover openings up to 140cm (55in) wide. It is crucial that the gate is never used as a barrier for pools or ponds, and children should never be left unattended with the gate in place, as it does not replace proper adult supervision.
The gate offers versatile installation options to suit different home layouts. It can be mounted inside an opening, with a minimum width of 20cm (8in) and a maximum of 140cm (55in), or outside an opening, with a minimum width of 20cm (8in) and a maximum of 129cm (51in). The opening direction of the gate can be changed to suit user preference.
When installing at the bottom of stairs, the gate should be positioned at the front of the lowest tread. For installation at the top of stairs, it must not be placed on any stair below the level of the top stair, and at the top of a landing, it should be positioned 15cm (6in) away from the top step. A critical safety requirement is that the clearance space between the Base of Casing (K) and the floor MUST NOT exceed 0.3cm (0.12in).
The installation process involves selecting the appropriate templates based on the desired gate position and opening direction. These templates guide the placement of the Upper Bracket (C), Lower Bracket (D), Upper Hook (E), and Lower Hook (F). Once the positions are marked, the brackets and hooks are screwed into the wall or door frame using the provided screws (H), with masonry/brick plugs (I) used for brick or masonry surfaces. It is essential to ensure the mounting surface is structurally sound, such as solid timber, brick, or masonry. For plaster/gyprock surfaces, the gate must be mounted into a timber beam or stud, not directly into the plaster/gyprock alone.
For homes with skirting boards, a Skirting Board Kit is included, which allows for building up the wall areas to be equivalent to the skirting board's thickness using Bracket Spacers (A1/A2) and Hook Spacers (X1/X2). These spacers ensure a flush and secure installation. When mounting the gate outside a door opening, the Hook Spacer should be mounted horizontally.
To mount the gate panel, the user first checks the desired open/close direction. The notch on the Top of Casing (L) is then aligned with the arrow on the Upper Bracket (C) in the chosen direction. The lower part of the gate is aligned with the Lower Bracket (D), and the top of the gate with the Upper Bracket (C). The gate is gently pushed down until it clicks securely into place. Finally, the Cover (B) is slid over the Upper Bracket (C) until it conceals the dismount Latch, ensuring the cover is securely installed as it locks the gate in place.
To close the gate, the Release Button (J) is pressed and twisted clockwise. The gate handle is then pulled, and the Locking Rod (G) is fitted into the upper and lower Hooks (E, F). To open the gate, the Release Button (J) is pressed and twisted clockwise, and the gate handle is pulled out from the upper and lower Hooks (E, F). A distinct noise during retraction is an intentional feature designed to alert the user that the gate is being opened. For silent operation, the Release Button (J) can be held down while retracting the gate.
To remove the gate, the Cover (B) is slid from the Top of Casing (L). The dismount Latch on the Upper Bracket (C) is then pressed, and the gate is slid upwards to disengage.
Accessories such as the F895 Gate Adaptor Panel (sold separately) can be used to provide a flat surface for gate installation, and the F959 Mounting Set (sold separately) allows for easy relocation of the gate between multiple doorways.
