Overview

The DreamLine Aqua Swing is a shower door designed for installation in a bathroom, typically over a bathtub. Its primary function is to enclose a shower area, preventing water from splashing out and creating a dedicated showering space. The "Swing" in its name suggests that the door operates on hinges, allowing it to pivot open and closed.

Function Description

The Aqua Swing shower door provides a functional and aesthetic enclosure for a shower area. It is designed to be installed on a finished opening, requiring a flat threshold space for proper mounting. The door consists of a glass panel with a hinged glass profile, which attaches to a wall profile. This wall profile is secured to the bathroom wall, providing stability and support for the entire unit. A key feature of this model is its adjustability for out-of-plumb wall conditions, offering up to 3/8" of compensation within the wall profiles. This flexibility helps ensure a proper and level installation even if the bathroom walls are not perfectly straight.

The installation process involves several steps to ensure a secure and watertight enclosure. First, the wall profile is positioned and marked on the wall, followed by drilling holes and inserting wall anchors. Silicone sealant is applied along the back of the wall profile and into the drill holes before it is fastened to the wall with screws. Next, the assembled glass door with its hinged glass profile is slid into the groove of the wall profile. This step allows for vertical leveling adjustments of up to 1/2" to ensure the door glass is perfectly level. Once leveled, the wall profile and hinged glass profile are secured with additional screws, and decorative covers are used to conceal the screw heads, providing a clean finish.

A crucial component for water containment is the aluminum threshold, which snaps into a threshold connector and end covers. This threshold is then attached to the tub deck, parallel to its edge, with the connector tight to the bottom and even with the outside of the hinged glass profile. Waterproof silicone is applied along the bottom of the aluminum threshold and along the connection between the threshold connector and the hinged glass profile to create a watertight seal. After the silicone has fully cured (typically 24 hours), a bottom anti-water strip is attached to the lower edge of the glass door, further enhancing water retention. Finally, a handle is mounted onto the outside of the glass door for easy operation.

The design of the Aqua Swing allows for reversible installation, meaning it can be configured for either a left-hand or right-hand opening, depending on the bathroom layout and user preference. The manual typically illustrates one configuration (e.g., left-hand) and advises reversing the orientation of parts for the opposite configuration.

Usage Features

The Aqua Swing shower door is designed for daily use in a bathroom environment. Its hinged operation allows for a wide opening, providing easy access to the shower area. The glass construction offers a modern and open feel, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the bathroom. The handle provides a comfortable grip for opening and closing the door.

The inclusion of a bottom anti-water strip and a sealed aluminum threshold is critical for preventing water leakage, ensuring that water remains contained within the shower area and does not spill onto the bathroom floor. The 3/8" out-of-plumb adjustment feature simplifies installation and ensures that the door operates smoothly and seals effectively, even in less-than-perfect wall conditions.

Users should be mindful of the silicone curing time (24 hours) after installation before operating the door. This waiting period is essential to allow the sealant to fully set and create a durable, watertight bond, preventing the threshold from dislodging.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and appearance of the Aqua Swing shower door. The manual provides specific guidelines for caring for different components:

  • Glass: To maintain the glass, it should be wiped off after each use with a soft cloth. Rinsing and wiping the glass with a soft cloth or a squeegee helps prevent soap buildup and water spots. It is important to avoid abrasive cleaners, cleaning products with scouring agents, bristle brushes, or abrasive sponges, as these can scratch the glass surface.

  • Hardware: The metal hardware components should also be wiped off with a soft cloth after each use to preserve their finish. Abrasive cleaners, cleaning products containing ammonia, bleach, or acid should not be used, as these can cause finish peeling or corrosion. If such products are accidentally used, the surface should be rinsed immediately and thoroughly, then wiped dry with a soft cloth. Similar to the glass, abrasive sponges, cloths, steel wool, or wired brushes should be avoided to prevent permanent scratches to the hardware finish.

By following these maintenance instructions, users can ensure that their DreamLine Aqua Swing shower door remains clean, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for many years. Regular cleaning and avoiding harsh chemicals are key to preserving both the glass and the metal components.
