How to know if a lancet will fit with Droplet Genteel
Shape
Is the base of the lancet square?
Droplet Genteel was designed to
work with most square shaft lancets.
Fit
Does the lancet fit and stay in the
shuttle, even if you shake the device?
Size
Remove the Contact Tip from the Nozzle.
Hold Nozzle with the small side up. Drop
the lancet down through the Nozzle. Does
the lancet pass all the way through?
If your lancet does not pass these three tests, it will not work with
Droplet Genteel. However, passing these tests only means it will fit
into Droplet Genteel’s shuttle, but does not guarantee its overall
quality or that the needle size is uniform.
The Droplet Genteel lancing device works with Droplet Personal
Lancets. It is recommended that you use Droplet 30G Personal
Lancets with the Droplet Genteel lancing device.

INSTRUCTIONS
FOR USE
Choosing the Contact Tip
The Droplet Genteel lancing device comes with 6 Contact Tips,
different in color and thickness. They range from #1/thickest (Blue)
through #6/Thinnest (Violet). These thickness differences allow you to
adjust the depth of penetration of the lancet. To minimize discomfort,
use the shallowest depth (thickest, lowest number) Contact Tip that
still produces the right amount of blood.
Droplet Genteel comes factory-installed with the Blue #1 Contact Tip.
This is the thickest Contact Tip and allows for the shallowest depth
penetration. We recommend that you try the Blue factory-installed
Contact Tip the first time you use Droplet Genteel. Changing the
Contact Tip to a higher number will allow a deeper puncture depth.

Setting up Droplet Genteel for use
The Droplet Genteel lancing device is designed for single
user only. Never share the lancing device or lancets. Using
the Droplet Genteel lancing device, any of its parts, or any
lancing device on multiple individuals may increase the risk
of inadvertent transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
We recommend that you wash your hands with soap and
water before and after handling the Droplet Genteel lancing
device to prevent the transfer of bloodborne viruses or
infectious agents.
Always use a new lancet for each test. Never reuse lancets.
Always follow the instructions provided with your meter
for blood glucose testing.
Do not store the Droplet Genteel lancing device in high
temperatures above 150°F/66°C, typical of the dashboard
of a car on a hot, sunny day with the windows rolled up.

Overview

The Droplet Genteel lancing device is a medical instrument designed for drawing capillary blood samples from fingertips or alternate sites for blood glucose testing or other applications requiring small amounts of blood. It is intended for single-patient use only to prevent the inadvertent transmission of bloodborne pathogens.

Function Description:

The device operates by creating a vacuum to draw blood, minimizing discomfort associated with traditional lancing. It utilizes disposable sterile lancets and features adjustable penetration depth through interchangeable Contact Tips. The user cocks the device by pushing in the Push Cap, then presses an Activation Button to release the lancet. A key feature is the ability to visually confirm blood drop formation through a Nozzle window.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Lancet Compatibility: Designed to work with most square shaft lancets. Specifically recommended for use with Droplet 30G Personal Lancets. Lancets must fit and stay in the shuttle, and pass completely through the Nozzle when dropped.
  • Penetration Depth Adjustment: Achieved through 6 different Contact Tips, ranging from #1 (Blue/thickest/shallowest) to #6 (Violet/thinnest/deepest). The factory-installed Blue #1 Contact Tip provides the shallowest penetration.
  • Materials: The device is designed to be cleaned with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  • Temperature Restrictions: Should not be stored in high temperatures above 150°F/66°C.

Usage Features:

  • Setup:
    • Contact Tip Installation: Contact Tips are placed on a clean, flat surface, with the grooved side facing up, and gently pushed onto the Nozzle until the lip of the Nozzle fits into the groove. Alternatively, the Contact Tip can be stretched over the Nozzle.
    • Lancet Insertion: A new, sterile lancet is inserted into the device, and its protective cap is twisted off.
  • Testing from the Fingertip:
    • The chosen lancing area should be wiped with an alcohol swab or tissue.
    • The device is cocked by pushing in the Push Cap (a click confirms proper cocking). It's crucial not to hold the Activation Button while cocking to prevent disengagement of the locking mechanism.
    • The device is placed gently but firmly against the fleshy side of the middle, ring, or pointer finger, ensuring no spaces between the Contact Tip and the skin.
    • The Activation Button is pressed and held firmly on the test site for up to 10 seconds, or until a blood drop is visible through the Nozzle window.
    • The Activation Button is then released, and the device is pulled away from the skin.
  • Alternate Site Testing: If approved by a doctor, alternate site testing can be performed on soft, fleshy areas of the arm or other recommended sites, away from bone, visible veins, and hair. The procedure is identical to fingertip testing.
  • Lancet Removal: After use, the device is cocked again by pushing in the Push Cap. The Nozzle is twisted off, and the used lancet is removed and placed in a sharps container.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning After Every Use:
    • Surface Cleaning: The outside of the device should be wiped with a clean, damp cloth before each use.
    • Disinfection: The entire lancing device, including the inside and outside of the Nozzle and Contact Tip, should be wiped with 70% isopropyl alcohol after every use and allowed to air dry completely. This helps prevent the transfer of bloodborne viruses or infectious agents.
  • Troubleshooting Vacuum Leaks (Quick Clean):
    • If the Push Shaft rises past its halfway point while holding the Activation Button, indicating a vacuum leak, a quick clean is recommended.
    • Piston Assembly Removal: De-prime the device by pressing the Activation Button. Twist the Piston Assembly base counter-clockwise and pull it out of the Vacuum Tube.
    • O-ring Wipe: Wipe the O-ring on the Piston Assembly with a clean finger to remove surface dirt.
  • Troubleshooting Vacuum Leaks (Deep Clean):
    • If the quick clean doesn't resolve the vacuum leak, a deep clean is required.
    • Piston Assembly Removal: Same as quick clean.
    • Flush Vacuum Tube: Run fast-moving, warm water through the Vacuum Tube and out the Nozzle while repeatedly pressing the Activation Button.
    • Flush Piston Assembly: Run the Piston Assembly under fast-moving, warm water and repeat the O-ring wipe.
    • Drying: Allow Droplet Genteel to air dry thoroughly. Do not reassemble with moisture in the Vacuum Tube.
    • Reassembly: Insert the Piston Assembly back into the Vacuum Tube and twist the base clockwise until it locks securely. Verify device functions as intended.

Warranty and Support:

The device comes with a 120-day satisfaction guarantee when used with Droplet 30G Personal Lancets and according to instructions. Users must register their device within 30 days of purchase.
