Maintenance check / pretest
Ge detectors may operate at bias voltages of 5000 V DC or more.
Always be sure that detectors are properly grounded (through the SHV
coaxial cable ground to a properly grounded Power Supply/NIM Bin).
Also use extreme caution when adjusting internal preamplifier controls to
avoid contact with the high voltage circuit.
Connect the Oscilloscope with a BNC cable or BNC T-fitting (picture 1)
on the main amplifier OUT (picture 2 - picture 4).

Summary

Maintenance Check and Pre-test Procedures

Safety Precautions for High Voltage

Handle detectors with bias voltages up to 5000V DC, ensure proper grounding, and use caution with high voltage circuits.

System Block Diagram and Connectivity

Amplifier Settings and Voltage Measurement

Main Amplifier Gain Settings

Ensure main amplifier settings for coarse gain are 100 and fine gain is 10.

High Voltage Rise and Noise Measurement

Increase high voltage in 100V steps, measure the test point voltage, and observe/record noise on the scope.

Noise Characteristics and Alternative Settings

Stopping Bias Application Criteria

Stop bias application when noise shakes or the test point (TP) voltage goes to high values (-10V or more).

Non-DSG Main Amplifier Settings

Use specific gain, pileup, P/Z, BLR, and peaking time settings for non-DSG main amplifiers.
