Overview

The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry is an innovative hand dryer system designed to integrate seamlessly into washroom environments, offering both hand washing and drying functionalities in a single unit. This device is engineered to provide a hygienic and efficient user experience, minimizing water drips on the floor and reducing the overall footprint in a washroom. Its primary function is to allow users to wash and then immediately dry their hands at the same basin, eliminating the need to move to a separate drying station.

The system operates by delivering water for washing and then, with a simple hand movement, switching to a powerful air stream for drying. The air is filtered, ensuring that clean air is used to dry hands. This integrated approach not only enhances user convenience but also contributes to a cleaner washroom environment by containing water within the sink area. The design is sleek and modern, intended to complement contemporary washroom aesthetics.

One of the key usage features of the Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry is its touch-free operation. Sensors detect hand presence for both water dispensing and air drying, promoting a more hygienic experience by minimizing contact with surfaces. This touch-free activation helps to reduce the spread of germs, which is a critical consideration in public and commercial washrooms. The transition from washing to drying is intuitive; users simply move their hands from the water stream to the air outlets, which are typically located within the tap structure itself. The powerful airblades quickly and effectively remove water from hands, providing a fast drying time. This efficiency is a significant advantage, as it encourages proper hand drying, a crucial step in hand hygiene.

The device is also designed with an automatic duty flush feature, which addresses the potential for bacteria growth in inactive water systems. In commercial settings where water taps might go unused for extended periods, water within the system can stagnate, creating an environment conducive to bacterial proliferation. To counteract this, the Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry's re-engineered software automatically opens the water solenoid if water flow isn't activated for 24 hours. This flushes water through the system for 60 seconds, expelling any standing water and helping to maintain water quality. This proactive measure contributes to the overall hygiene and safety of the water supply within the unit.

Maintenance of the Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry is straightforward and designed to ensure the machine performs optimally and remains hygienic. Daily cleaning is recommended, involving three simple steps. First, the sensors should be wiped with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner. A cleaning cap is provided to place over the sensors during cleaning to prevent accidental activation. Second, all tap surfaces, the sink, mirror, and any surrounding walls or countertops should be cleaned. It's important to remember to remove the cleaning cap once this step is complete. Third, the air inlets located on the base of the motor bucket (typically under the sink) should be regularly cleaned. Additionally, ensuring the plughole in the sink is free from blockages is crucial for proper water drainage.

For more thorough cleaning, a range of professional cleaning chemicals can be used, but it's important to follow specific guidelines to avoid invalidating the warranty or damaging the machine. Cleaning chemicals should be used exactly as indicated by the manufacturer's instructions, including appropriate dilution. It's also advised to test any new chemical on an inconspicuous area first to confirm suitability. The manual explicitly warns against using certain substances and methods, such as alcohol-acid mixes, pure alcohol, solvent/oil-based mixes, quaternary ammonium, alkali-bleach mixes, foaming ingredients, bleach, or abrasive cleaners, as these can be harmful to the machine. Pressure washing the machine is also prohibited.

The device is built to withstand internal cleaning processes, including those involving hot water up to 95°C and sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 0.45%, to comply with regulations regarding temperature-controlled water supply systems and biological growth minimization. However, users are cautioned to be aware of safety considerations when using hot water or chemicals for internal cleaning, as Dyson will not be responsible for any injuries caused during this process. The specific details of internal cleaning should align with applicable regulations and the local water supply system.

In summary, the Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry is a sophisticated and user-centric hand hygiene solution that combines washing and drying in one unit, emphasizing hygiene, efficiency, and ease of maintenance. Its touch-free operation, rapid drying, automatic duty flush, and clear cleaning guidelines contribute to a superior washroom experience and help maintain high standards of cleanliness and public health.
