Function Description:
The primary function of the Dyson Supersonic Nural™ is to dry hair efficiently while protecting the scalp and hair from excessive heat. It incorporates a network of Nural™ sensors that enhance and optimize the hair care routine. Key features include:
- Scalp Protect Mode: This mode is activated by default on first use. A Time of Flight sensor measures the distance between the dryer and the hair, automatically reducing heat as the dryer moves closer to the scalp. This ensures a comfortable and consistent scalp temperature, preventing heat damage. The Scalp protect button is located on the back, at the top of the cylindrical head.
- Pause Detect: A motion-sensing accelerometer detects when the dryer is put down. It automatically deactivates the heater, decreases airflow, and reduces noise. During Pause detect, the Capsule illumination pulses blue.
- Attachment Learning: A Hall sensor recognizes which styling attachment is connected and automatically switches to its last-used settings for that specific attachment, streamlining the styling process.
- Capsule Illumination: The suspended capsule, located in the central bore of the hair dryer, changes color to indicate the current heat setting. This visual cue helps users monitor the heat level, with colors adapting automatically in Scalp protect mode.

Three white LEDs indicate airflow settings (three for Fast/High, two for Gentle/Medium, one for Mild/Low). Three red LEDs indicate heat settings (three for High, two for Medium, one for Low, and no red LED for Cool). These LEDs also serve as diagnostic indicators, flashing continuously to alert users to filter cleaning needs or faults.

- Flyaway Attachment: Uses Coanda airflow to hide flyaways. Works with Low heat/High flow presets, Scalp protect mode, and Pause detect.

Maintenance Features:
- Removable Filter Cage: Located at the bottom of the handle, the filter cage is easy to remove for cleaning.
- Regular Filter Cleaning: Users are advised to check the filter for debris and hair product residue every month, or when the LED lights alert them. To clean, unplug the machine, allow it to cool, then gently rotate the filter cage anti-clockwise and pull it down and away. A lint-free cloth or soft brush should be used to remove dust or debris from both the filter cage and the filter mesh. Water should not be used to clean the filter mesh, and excessive pressure should be avoided. After cleaning, rotate the filter cage back into position until correctly aligned, then rotate clockwise to lock it before use.
- Diagnostic LEDs: The LED lights flash continuously to indicate when the machine needs attention, specifically for filter cleaning or if there is a fault. If all three red lights continue to flash, users are instructed to contact Dyson Helpline and not turn the device back on.
