Do you have a question about the Ecler VEO-XPT44A and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Ecler VEO-XPT44A is a professional HDBaseT extender kit designed to extend 4K and Full HD video signals over a single Cat 5e/6 cable, making it an ideal solution for various AV and control extension applications. This kit comprises both a transmitter and a receiver unit, working in tandem to facilitate seamless signal transmission over extended distances.

Function Description

The primary function of the VEO-XPT44A is to extend HDMI 2.0 signals, including 4K video at 60Hz with 4:4:4 YUV chroma subsampling and HDR10 support. It can transmit 4K signals up to 40 meters and Full HD signals up to 70 meters. This capability is crucial for installations where the source device and display are located far apart, eliminating the need for multiple cables or signal degradation.

Beyond video extension, the VEO-XPT44A offers robust audio and control signal management. It features PCM 2.0 audio de-embedding on both the transmitter and receiver units, providing stereo unbalanced audio outputs via Euroblock connectors. This allows for easy integration with external audio systems, enabling audio extraction at either end of the extension.

The kit also supports bidirectional IR and RS-232 pass-through, which are essential for controlling source devices from the display location or vice versa. This means users can operate their Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, or other HDMI sources using their original remote controls from the display end, or integrate with serial control systems for more advanced automation.

A notable feature is the HDMI loop output on the transmitter. This allows for local monitoring of the video signal or for daisy-chaining to another display or extender, providing flexibility in system design.

Power over HDBaseT (PoH) is another key functionality of the VEO-XPT44A. This bidirectional feature means that only one of the units (either the transmitter or the receiver) needs to be powered by the included 24VDC power supply. The power is then transmitted over the HDBaseT cable to the other unit, simplifying installation and reducing the number of power outlets required.

The device is HDCP2.2/1.4 compliant, ensuring compatibility with protected content. It also supports HDR10 and 3D, catering to modern video standards and immersive viewing experiences. Built-in ESD protection safeguards the device against electrostatic discharge, enhancing its durability and reliability.

Usage Features

The VEO-XPT44A is designed for ease of use, requiring no complex settings for basic operation. The kit is essentially plug-and-play for video and audio extension.

For EDID management, the device includes an EDID Mode Selector with three options:

  • Auto: This default setting ensures compatibility by automatically selecting a 4K@60Hz EDID.
  • Local: This option copies EDID data from the display connected to the transmitter, which is useful when the source needs to adapt to the capabilities of a local display.
  • Remote: This option copies EDID data from the display connected to the receiver, ensuring the source optimizes its output for the remote display.

Connecting the device involves straightforward steps:

  1. HDMI Signal Sources: Connect devices like Blu-ray players or STBs to the HDMI input of the VEO-XPT44A transmitter.
  2. HDMI Display Devices: Connect 4K or Full HD displays or projectors to the HDMI outputs of both the transmitter (for local monitoring) and the receiver.
  3. IR Blaster/Receiver: The kit includes IR Blaster and IR Receiver units. The IR Blaster connects to the IR-Out port of either the transmitter or receiver to send IR control signals to a source device. The IR Receiver connects to the IR-In port to receive IR signals from a remote control. This bidirectional IR functionality allows control from either end of the extension.
  4. RS-232 Devices: RS-232 source and endpoint devices (e.g., PCs, serial controllers) can be connected to the Euroblock RS-232 ports for serial control.
  5. Audio Devices: Amplifiers or other audio devices can be connected to the Euroblock audio ports on both the transmitter and receiver to utilize the de-embedded audio.
  6. Transmitter & Receiver Connection: The core connection is made using a single CAT. 5e/6a/7 cable, linking the RJ45 output of the transmitter to the RJ45 input of the receiver.
  7. Power On: Only one 24VDC power supply needs to be connected to either the transmitter or the receiver, thanks to the bidirectional PoH feature. Both units will power on automatically.

The device includes LED indicators for HDbaseT connection status (Green LED) and HDCP negotiation/encryption (Orange LED flashing for negotiation, fixed for encryption), providing visual feedback on the system's operational state. A reset button is also available for troubleshooting or reinitialization.

Maintenance Features

The VEO-XPT44A is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Ecler emphasizes the importance of reading the user manual thoroughly to understand all functionalities and ensure optimal performance.

For optimal operation and longevity, Ecler recommends that any maintenance be carried out by authorized Technical Services. This ensures that the device is handled by trained professionals who can correctly diagnose and resolve any issues, preserving the product's integrity and warranty.

The device is built with ESD protection, which helps prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, a common cause of electronic component failure. This internal protection reduces the need for external protective measures and contributes to the device's overall robustness.

The product comes with a 3-year warranty, reflecting Ecler's confidence in its durability and quality. This warranty provides peace of mind for users, knowing that their investment is protected against manufacturing defects.

Users are advised to handle HDMI cables gently during insertion and extraction to prevent damage to the ports. Regular cleaning with a dry cloth is recommended, and the device should not be exposed to water or moisture to prevent fire or shock hazards. Adequate ventilation is also important, so ventilation openings should not be blocked. The device should not be installed near heat sources to avoid overheating.

In case of damage, such as to the power supply cord or plug, or if liquid has been spilled into the apparatus, servicing by qualified personnel is required. The device is designed for commercial environments and should be disposed of responsibly at an electrical and electronic waste treatment center, not as unsorted urban waste.
