Overview

The ECLIPSE AVN 50D is a DVD Navigation System featuring a 6.5" Wide TFT Display and a DVD Multi-Source Receiver. This installation manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up the device, ensuring safe and correct handling to prevent personal injury and property damage.

Function Description:

The AVN 50D serves as a central multimedia and navigation hub for vehicles. It integrates DVD playback with a navigation system, displayed on a 6.5-inch wide TFT screen. The multi-source receiver allows for various audio and video inputs. The system includes a GPS antenna for navigation, interconnecting wires for power, speakers, and steering remote control, and a MAP DVD-ROM for navigation data.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display: 6.5" Wide TFT Display.
  • Power Supply: Designed for DC 12-volt, negative-grounded vehicles only. Not suitable for 24-volt vehicles (e.g., heavy trucks or diesel vehicles with cold-region specifications).
  • Speaker Impedance: Compatible with high-powered speakers rated above 50W, with an impedance rating between 4 and 8 ohms. Not to be used with speakers having 1 to 3 ohms impedance.
  • Fuse: Requires a fuse of the correct rating (amperes) for replacement. Using fuses with higher amperage ratings can cause a fire.
  • GPS Antenna: The GPS antenna is crucial for navigation accuracy. Its reception sensitivity can be affected by the installation location, vehicle glass type (e.g., heat-reflective or bullet-proof), and proximity to other antennas or wires.
  • Connections:
    • B+ (Yellow): Constant power supply.
    • ACC (Red): Power supply when ignition is in ACC position.
    • Illumination power supply (Orange/White): Connects to vehicle light switch.
    • Antenna power supply (Blue): Connects to automatic-antenna control terminal.
    • Control power supply (Blue/White): Connects to external amplifier control terminal.
    • Front speaker output wires (White/White-black, Gray/Gray-Black): For front speakers.
    • Rear speaker output wires (Green/Green-black, Purple/Purple-Black): For rear speakers.
    • Ground (Black): Connects to good body grounding.
    • ACC ON/OFF power supply terminal (Blue/White): For external amplifier, allows audio guidance even when audio is off.
    • Vehicle speed pulse signal wire (Purple/White): Connects to vehicle speed pulse signal terminal. Contains a protective circuit that must not be cut or removed.
    • Parking brake signal wire (Red/White): Connects to parking brake signal terminal.
    • Reverse signal wire (Green): Connects to vehicle's reverse signal output. Requires a sensing voltage of 6V or higher when reversed.
    • E-LAN terminal (13P): For CD changer, etc.
    • VTR output terminal (Yellow): Connects to monitor with video input.
    • Back-eye camera external input terminal (4P): For Eclipse back-eye camera (sold separately).
    • Genuine steering remote control terminal: Compatible with voltage detection-type steering remote control.

Usage Features:

  • Navigation System: Utilizes a GPS antenna and MAP DVD-ROM for vehicle positioning and guidance.
  • Multimedia Playback: Supports DVD playback and other multi-source inputs.
  • Audio Guidance: Provides audio guidance from the navigation system, even when the main audio is off, if connected to an external amplifier via the ACC ON/OFF power supply terminal.
  • Steering Remote Control: Compatible with vehicle steering remote controls for convenient operation.
  • External Monitor Support: VTR output terminal allows connection to an external monitor.
  • Back-eye Camera Support: Dedicated input for an optional Eclipse back-eye camera for enhanced safety during reversing.

Maintenance Features:

  • Professional Installation Recommended: To ensure proper functioning and safety, professional installation is advised.
  • Secure Wiring: All wires and harnesses must be bundled with electrical tape or wire ties to prevent interference with moving parts (steering wheel, shift lever, brake pedal) and to insulate connections, preventing short circuits, fire, or electric shock.
  • Grounding: The main unit must be properly grounded to the vehicle chassis. If no ground is available, a ground strap should be added.
  • Fuse Replacement: Always use a fuse of the correct rating when replacing.
  • Cleaning: The GPS antenna installation surface should be thoroughly wiped clean of dirt, moisture, or grease.
  • GPS Antenna Care:
    • Avoid applying coatings to the GPS antenna, as this can reduce reception sensitivity.
    • When installing outside the vehicle, remove the main antenna unit when washing the vehicle and avoid spraying water directly on the wire section.
    • When removing the antenna, hold the main antenna unit, do not pull on the wire.
    • Keep the GPS antenna away from watches and magnetic cards due to its strong magnet.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of abnormal situations (foreign matter, liquid, smoke, strange odor), immediately shut off the unit and consult the dealer.
  • Mounting: Use only supplied mounting hardware (hex-head bolts and flathead screws) to prevent internal damage or insecure mounting.
  • Installation Angle: The main unit must be mounted at an angle of less than 30 degrees to prevent DVD/CD skipping and improper ejection.
  • Post-Installation Check: After installation, ensure all brakes and electrical equipment (lights, horn, hazard warning lights, turn signals) operate correctly.
