First, the suction grid or hose might be blocked; in this case, remove any obstructions or straighten any kinks in the hose. Second, the impeller could be worn or blocked; if so, replace the impeller or clear any blockages. Third, the pump might not be powerful enough for the required head; consider replacing it with a model that offers a higher head. Also, the presence of air in the pump can prevent flow; wait at least a minute for the air to dissipate. Finally, the water level might be below the minimum suction level.
