Supplemental Manual
For Generating Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl)
How to Generate HOCl
The purpose of this supplemental manual is to explain
how to generate higher concentrations of HOCl using
less salt and to present several options for optimizing
the pH to between pH 5 and pH 7.
1. Add 1 Liter of reverse osmosis water (RO water should have pH <6)
If RO water is unavailable, use purified water or tap water and lower
the pH by choosing one of the following methods:
a) Add 1 teaspoon of 5% distilled vinegar - or -
b) Add 1 drop of muriatic acid (32% HCl) *
2. Add 1 gram of salt . May also use as little as 1/2 gram.**
3. Place on lid and plug-in the power supply ***
4. Run Setting 3 once (8 minutes) to generate ~100 ppm
Run Setting 3 twice (16 minutes) to generate ~200 ppm
Each additional run on setting 3 will increase the
concentration by 60-80 ppm for a maximum of 5 total runs.

Setting 1 – System runs for 3 minutes
* Personal protective gear is required when using muriatic acid. '
This is the same muriatic acid that is used to lower the pH of pools.
** Salt must be food grade salt (NaCl) without iodine (ie. kosher salt). When using
less than 1 gram of salt, it may be required to run 1 extra cycle of 8 minutes.
*** Power supply must be dry
