Filter media
In soft water areas and
with pools using a mineral puri-
er, many types of zeolites sold
will be incompatible. Only after
installation will you be able to
determine if calcium hardness,
copper/silver, or zinc is being
removed from your pool. All zeo-
lites are incompatible with metal
remover, occulant, and clarier.
Zeolites will also load with phos-
phate if it is present in the pool
water. Be cautious, some manu-
facturers do not acknowledge
these issues.
In 2004, the pool indus-
try was introduced to glass me-
dia. Though glass is the most
expensive option upfront, it has
the lowest micron rating and lon-
gest life expectancy of all media
types, making it the most cost
effective type of media. Glass is
avaiable in multi-color or white,
and may or may not come pre-
sterilized.
