The EDISON DAM100 is an auto-range, high-accuracy digital multimeter with a USB interface, designed for a wide array of electrical measurements. It adheres to IEC1010 standards for electronic measuring instruments, with an over-voltage category of CAT II 1000V, CAT III 600V, and pollution level 2, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
Function Description
The DAM100 offers a comprehensive set of measurement functions, including:
- Linear Frequency Testing: Capable of measuring frequencies from 5Hz to 200KHz.
- Logic Frequency Testing: Extends frequency measurement to 5Hz to 2MHz.
- Duty Cycle Testing: Measures duty cycles from 5% to 95%.
- Diode Testing: Performs diode tests with a range from 0 to 2.5V.
- AC V/dBm Measurement: Measures AC voltage and dBm. The dBm measurement is a calculated value based on current AC voltage and a virtual resistance, expressed in logarithmic form. The meter allows selection of various resistance values (4, 8, 16, 32, 50, 75, 93, 110, 125, 135, 150, 200, 250, 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1000, and 1200 ohms) for dBm calculation.
- DC V/DC V + ACV Measurement: Measures DC voltage and a combination of DC and AC voltage. The DC V + AC V mode calculates and displays results based on the formula √ DC² + AC², reflecting the general effective values from both DC and AC components.
- DC mV/AC mV/DC mV+AC mV Measurement: Measures millivoltages in DC, AC, or combined DC+AC modes.
- Logic Frequency/Duty Ratio Measurement: Measures logic frequencies (5Hz to 2MHz, Vp 2.5 to 5V) and duty ratios (5% to 95%).
- Resistance/Continuity Test: Measures resistance from 0.01Ω to 50MΩ and checks for continuity (buzzer sounds for resistance between 50Ω and 60Ω).
- Capacitance Measurement: Measures capacitance from 10pF to 5000μF.
- DC μA/AC μA /DC μA+AC μA Measurement: Measures microamperes in DC, AC, or combined DC+AC modes, with ranges from 0.01μA to 5000μA.
- DC mA/AC mA /DC mA+AC mA Measurements: Measures milliamperes in DC, AC, or combined DC+AC modes, with ranges from 1μA to 500mA.
- DC Ampere/AC Ampere/DC Ampere + AC Ampere Measurement: Measures amperes in DC, AC, or combined DC+AC modes, with ranges from 0.1mA to 10A.
Usage Features
The DAM100 incorporates several features to enhance usability and measurement accuracy:
- True Effective Value (TRUE RMS) Measurement: All AC voltage and current measurements are true effective values, providing more accurate readings for non-sinusoidal waveforms compared to meters that only measure AC average values.
- Automatic and Manual Ranging: The meter defaults to automatic ranging (AUTO) upon power-on, automatically selecting the appropriate range. Users can switch to manual ranging (MANUAL) by pressing the 'RANGE' key and cycle through ranges. Holding the 'RANGE' key for 2 seconds returns to auto-ranging.
- MAX/MIN Measurement: Pressing the 'MAX/MIN' key enters a record state, continuously updating and displaying the maximum, minimum, and maximum-minimum values. This feature is not available for frequency and diode measurements.
- Relative Measurement (REL Δ): This mode allows the meter to store an initial measurement value and then display subsequent measurements as the difference from this initial value. This is useful for compensating for lead resistance or distributed capacitance in low resistance/capacitance measurements.
- Data Hold (HOLD): The 'HOLD' key freezes the displayed measurement data. Pressing it again resumes live measurement.
- PC-LINK Mode: Holding the 'HOLD' key for 2 seconds activates PC-LINK mode, enabling data transfer to a computer via the USB infrared interface. This allows for recording, analysis, and graphical representation of measurements using the provided software. The data transfer is optical, ensuring safety when measuring high voltages.
- Backlight Control (LIGHT): The LCD screen features a backlight that can be activated by pressing the 'LIGHT' key. It automatically turns off after 5 seconds of stability or can be manually turned off sooner.
- Rotary Dial: A central rotary dial is used to select various measurement functions.
- Input Connectors: Dedicated connectors for different current ranges (A, μA/mA) and general measurements (dB, mHz, V, mV, Ω) ensure proper probe connection.
- LCD Screen: A clear LCD displays measurement results and various symbols, including unit indicators (°C, °F, μF, nF, μA, mA, A, dBm, mV, V, MΩ, KΩ, Ω, MHz, KHz, Hz), duty ratio (Π%), auto/manual range indicators, range value (5, 50, 500, 1000, 5000), MAX-MIN, REL, continuity ())), AC, negative value (-), DC, data-holding (H), "Please wait...", low battery, and an analog bar.
- Analog Bar Display: A 50-segment analog bar provides a graphic representation of the measurement value, synchronizing with the present value even in MAX/MIN or relative measurement modes.
- Overload Protection: The meter is designed with overload protection for various measurement ranges.
- Sound Alarm: An audible alarm signals incorrect current measurement connections.
- Shock-Resistant Casing: The meter is housed in a rubberized casing for enhanced durability and 1000V CATIII protection.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of the DAM100:
- Battery Replacement: A low battery symbol (
) on the LCD indicates that the batteries (6x 1.5V AA) need replacement. Before replacing, disconnect test leads and turn off the meter.
- Fuse Replacement: Fuses (0.63A/500V for μA/mA, 12.5A/500V for A) should only be replaced with those of the same model and electrical specifications. Always turn off the meter and disconnect test leads before replacing fuses. Fuses typically blow due to incorrect usage, such as measuring voltage in current mode or exceeding current ranges.
- Automatic Shutdown and Continuous Operation: The meter automatically shuts down after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve power. It can be woken by pressing the 'WAKE' key or turning the rotary switch. For continuous operation without auto-shutdown, hold the 'WAKE' key while turning on the power.
- Cleaning: The multimeter should only be cleaned with a soft, damp (not wet) cloth. Do not submerge the meter in water.
- Professional Repair: In case of any fault, the meter should not be used and should be sent to experienced professionals or an appointed maintenance department for repair. All repairs must be carried out by a qualified professional.
