      If your Efco Trimmer engine won't start or shuts off shortly after starting, there could be a couple of reasons. First, check the spark plug for a spark. If there's no spark, try again with a new BPMR7A spark plug. Another possibility is that the engine is flooded. In this case, follow the procedure on page 26. If it still doesn't start, try the procedure again with a new spark plug.

      If your Efco Trimmer engine does not reach full speed or emits excessive smoke, there are several things to inspect. First, make sure you're using the correct 2-cycle oil mix with fresh fuel. Second, check the air filter and clean it according to the instructions in the Maintenance-Air Filter Section. Finally, the carburetor may need adjustment, so contact a Servicing Dealer.

      If your Efco Trimmer engine starts, runs, and accelerates but will not idle, the carburetor likely needs adjustment. To fix this, turn the idle speed screw “T” clockwise to increase the idle speed. See Operation-Carburetor Adjustment.
