Overview

This manual provides comprehensive assembly and repair instructions for Stressless® Recliners, Stressless® Recliner Accessories, Stressless® Sofas, and Ekornes Collection® Sofas. It also includes detailed parts lists, warranty information, and Ekornes claims policy.

Stressless® Recliners

Function Description: Stressless® Recliners are designed to provide absolute comfort, automatically adjusting to the user's movements whether sitting or fully reclined. The unique mechanism ensures continuous support in all sitting positions. The glide wheels allow for setting the feel and reaction to movement based on body weight, ensuring a natural balance in every reclining position. Once the perfect setting is found, there is no need to adjust the wheels again.

Assembly Instructions: The assembly process for Stressless® Recliners involves three main steps:

  1. Attaching the backrest to the seat arm assembly:
    • Push the seat forward and tighten the glide wheel to fix the seat.
    • Thread plastic locking rings (08000100) onto the pins of the seat arm assemblies, ensuring the long part of the ring points backward.
    • Squeeze the backrest cushion to expose coupling bolts, guide them over the pins on the arm assembly, and rotate the locking ring forward.
  2. Attaching the backrest to the seat:
    • Loosen the glide mechanism handle, push the seat back, and re-tighten the handle.
    • Open the zipper on the backrest cover to join the seat and backrest.
    • Guide the fittings at the rear of the seat through the hole in the backrest covering.
    • Tighten screws (08005075) firmly and close the zipper.
  3. Attaching the seat arms:
    • Seat arms come in left and right versions and should turn outward when attached.
    • Insert screws (08005076) into holes underneath the seat arms and fix them by turning two or three times.
    • Insert screws into spanner slots on the seat arm assembly, shove the seat arm back towards the backrest so screws slide into the narrow end of the spanner slots, and then screw tight.

Maintenance Features:

  • Adjustable Headrest Repair:
    • To repair, push plastic anchor (08000020) over the headrest frame stem and beneath the plastic housing, leaving room for the rubber washer (08000957).
    • Slide the rubber washer over the stem until it reaches the plastic anchor, ensuring the groove in the stem frame is visible.
    • Place plastic clips (08000021) over the bottom of the stem until they snap into place.
    • To attach the headrest to the seat cushion, carefully slide the headrest frame stem onto the seat cushion bars by wiggling it into place and push down to secure the fit. Avoid slamming to prevent plastic fittings from shifting.
    • Headrest Related Issues: Most problems occur when the headrest detaches. To re-secure, stand behind the chair, push the headrest down with force (when in the down position) until it goes further into the back frame. This should be done after assembly and periodically on floor models.
  • Glide Wheel Replacement:
    • The Stressless® logo wheel was introduced in March 2006. All future replacement glide wheels for 1999-Present recliners will have this feature.
    • The process involves keeping parts in the correct order during installation.
    • For pre-1999 models, specific SKU numbers are provided for replacement parts.
  • Arm Bracket Replacement:
    • Remove the arm cushion.
    • Remove the two screws at the top of the arm bracket.
    • Rotate the arm to the outside of the chair base to loosen, then to the inside and repeat to loosen further. Remove the arm.
    • Clean any excess glue from the arm bracket hole.
    • Replace with a new arm bracket and screw tight.
  • Swivel Ring Replacement:
    • Removing the old swivel ring: Pry off the swivel ring clip (if the ring doesn't swivel; broken rings slide out). Twist the swivel ring out of remaining clips. Use a hammer and screwdriver to remove three consecutive clips from the base. Clean out any excess pieces. Minor base damage is acceptable as the replacement clip will cover it.
    • Attaching new swivel ring: Twist the new swivel ring onto the three remaining clips on the base. Place new swivel ring clips (08004587) over the swivel ring and position them over the holes. Tap the new clips into the holes with a hammer or rubber mallet. Glue is not necessary due to the tight fit.

Stressless® Sofas

Function Description: Stressless® Sofas feature a unique mechanism that provides continuous support and comfort, automatically following movements.

Assembly / Disassembly Instructions:

  • Step 1 - Removing the seat cushion:
    • Remove the metal cover locking the seat/back connections.
    • Push in the rings around the bolts (2a) and lift the back straight up. If stuck, loosen with a slight knock from wood and a hammer (2b). Two people are advantageous. Be careful not to scratch the back cover.
    • Fold the back forward over the seat and slide the seat and back off the telescopic arms in a rotating movement.
    • Ensure the bracket on the seat cushion is positioned with the cut end of the "half moon" facing the front of the cushion.
  • Step 2 - Replacing the telescopic arm:
    • Slide the telescopic arm (silver part) all the way out and pull back the "adjustment wheel."
    • Push down the button underneath the adjustment wheel and pull the silver part out.
    • Replace by pushing it in, ensuring the adjustment wheel is correctly positioned (approx. an inch down from the silver part).
    • Important: When refixing the seat back cushion, ensure the bracket on the telescope arm is positioned as shown in diagram 4. Stand behind the sofa and re-fit the seat with the same movement as when it was taken off. It might be easier to lock the telescopic arms halfway up. Look and feel underneath to ensure both brackets are fixed. Put the back into the seat/back connection bolts. Sit down in the seat to ensure they are correctly fitted. Replace the metal cover that locks the connection to avoid the back coming off accidentally.
