Overview

This document describes a washing machine, specifically the Electrolux EWF 147580 W and EWF 167580 W models, which feature a Steam System.

Function Description

The washing machine is designed for washing and steam treatment of standard laundry in domestic applications. It meets modern requirements for effective treatment of laundry with low water, energy, and detergent consumption. Its washing system ensures optimal detergent use and reduced water consumption, contributing to energy savings. The integrated Steam System allows users to reduce creases and odors from dried laundry using various steam programs tailored to different fabric types.

The appliance offers a range of washing programs for various fabric types, including Cottons, Synthetics, Delicates, Wool/Handwash, Rinse, Drain, Spin, Cotton Economy, Blanket, and 5 Shirts. Each program has default temperature and spin speed settings, which can be adjusted by the user. The Time Manager function allows for modification of the program duration based on the soil degree of the laundry.

The Steam System includes specific programs for dried laundry: Cottons, Synthetics, and Freshen-Up. These cycles are designed to reduce creases and remove odors without the need for detergent. Steam programs do not perform a hygienic cycle, and certain types of clothes (those not suitable for tumble-drying or garments with plastic, metal, or wooden parts) should not be put into a steam cycle.

Usage Features

The control panel features a program selector dial, a display, and several buttons for various options. The program selector dial is used to switch the appliance on/off and select a washing program. The display provides information such as temperature, spin value, option icons (Extra Rinse, Easy Iron, Delay), child safety lock status, door locked status, program duration, and washing program phase icons.

Users can adjust the washing temperature and spin speed using dedicated buttons. Options like Prewash, Extra Rinse, and Delay Start can be selected to customize the wash cycle. The Prewash option is recommended for heavily soiled laundry, while Extra Rinse is suitable for people allergic to detergents or in areas with very soft water. The Delay Start function allows users to postpone the program start for up to 20 hours.

The Time Manager buttons enable users to modify the program duration based on the soil degree, with options ranging from Intensive (heavy soiled) to Quick (very slightly soiled).

The appliance includes a Child Safety Lock, which can be activated to prevent children from operating the machine or causing damage. This feature can be enabled either before starting a program (preventing the machine from starting) or after a program has begun (preventing changes to the program or options).

To load laundry, the door is opened by pulling the handle outwards, and items are placed in the drum one at a time. Detergent and fabric softener are added to the respective compartments in the dispenser drawer, ensuring not to exceed the "MAX" mark. Liquid detergents should be poured just before starting the program.

At the end of a program, the machine stops automatically, displaying three flashing zeros and turning off the door lock icon. If a program ends with water left in the tub (e.g., Rinse Hold or Night Cycle options), the water must be drained before the door can be opened.

The appliance also features acoustic signals to indicate the end of a cycle or a fault, which can be deactivated if desired.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's longevity and optimal performance.

Care and Cleaning:

  • Descaling: Since water contains lime, periodic use of a water softening powder is recommended to prevent lime deposits. This should be done separately from laundry washing, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • After each wash: Leaving the door open for a while after each wash helps prevent mold and stagnant smells and preserves the door seal.
  • Maintenance wash: To address residue buildup from low-temperature washes, a maintenance wash should be performed regularly. This involves running the hottest cotton wash program with an empty drum and a normal measure of biological powder detergent.
  • External cleaning: The exterior cabinet should be cleaned with soap and water only, then dried thoroughly. Methylated spirits, solvents, or similar products should not be used.
  • Cleaning the dispenser drawer: The detergent dispenser drawer should be cleaned regularly by removing it (pressing the catch downwards and pulling it out), flushing it under a tap to remove powder traces, and cleaning all parts, including the top part of the additive compartment and the chamber, with a brush.
  • Washing drum: Rust deposits can occur due to foreign bodies or iron in tap water. These should be removed with a stainless steel cleaning agent, followed by an empty short cotton program at maximum temperature with detergent to clean off residues. Acidic descaling agents, scouring agents with chlorine or iron, or steel wool should not be used on the drum.
  • Door seal: The door seal should be checked periodically for trapped objects.

Drain Pump: The drain pump should be inspected regularly, especially if the appliance doesn't empty or spin, makes unusual noises during draining, or has draining problems.

  1. Unplug the appliance and wait for the water to cool down if necessary.
  2. Open the pump door by levering on the groove with a coin or suitable tool.
  3. Place a bowl close to the pump to collect any spillage.
  4. Pull out the emergency emptying cap from the filter cover using pliers.
  5. Once water stops flowing, unscrew the pump cover anti-clockwise with pliers and remove the filter.
  6. Clean the filter under a tap to remove fluff.
  7. Remove foreign bodies and fluff from the pump seat and impeller. Check if the impeller rotates.
  8. Replace the filter and emergency emptying cap, ensuring they are firmly secured.
  9. Close the pump door.

Cleaning the water inlet filters: If the machine takes longer to fill, the water inlet hose filter might be blocked.

  1. Turn off the water tap.
  2. Unscrew the water inlet hose.
  3. Clean the filter in the hose with a hard bristle brush.
  4. Screw the hose back onto the tap.
  5. Unscrew the hose from the machine.
  6. Clean the filter in the valve with a stiff brush or cloth.
  7. Screw the hose back to the machine, ensuring a tight connection.
  8. Turn on the water tap.

Emergency emptying out: If water is not discharged:

  1. Pull out the plug and close the water tap.
  2. Wait for the water to cool.
  3. Open the pump door and place a bowl on the floor.
  4. Remove the emergency emptying cap to drain water by gravity. Refit the cap and empty the bowl as needed until all water is drained.
  5. Clean the pump if necessary.
  6. Screw the pump back and close the door.

Frost precautions: If the machine is in an environment where temperatures may drop below 0°C:

  1. Unplug the appliance and turn off the water tap.
  2. Unscrew the inlet hose.
  3. Place the end of the inlet hose in a bowl on the floor.
  4. Open the emergency emptying cap of the filter to drain water.
  5. Refit the cap and screw the inlet hose back.
  6. Ensure room temperature is above 0°C before restarting the machine.
