Overview

The Electrolux Trilobite is an autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner designed for household use, aiming to simplify the cleaning process by operating automatically. Its design is inspired by the ancient trilobite arthropod, known for its hard back and bottom-feeding habits.

Function Description

The Trilobite navigates rooms using harmless ultrasound, similar to how bats navigate in the dark. It employs advanced built-in sensors to scan the room, detect obstacles, and avoid falling. When its battery charge falls below a specific level, it automatically returns to its charger. Once fully charged, it resumes cleaning until the room is complete, then returns to the charger and switches off.

The device offers three vacuuming programs:

  • Normal: This program begins with "wall mapping," where the Trilobite travels along the room's walls to establish its size and layout. This mapping phase can last up to 15-25 minutes, after which it proceeds to vacuum all open surfaces. During the main cleaning sequence, it moves freely, stopping a few centimeters before obstacles and changing direction. If it gets stuck, it will continue its program if released within 20 minutes and placed back on the floor within 30 seconds, followed by pressing the "Continue Cleaning" button.
  • Quick: Similar to the Normal program but without the initial wall mapping. The vacuuming duration is preset to 10 minutes, which may result in slightly inferior cleaning compared to the Normal mode.
  • Spot: Designed for quick cleaning of a limited area, approximately one square meter. The Trilobite is placed in the center of the area and vacuums it twice.

Charging: The Trilobite is not fully charged upon delivery and requires an initial two-hour charge. The battery charger should be placed on the floor against a wall, with a free space of 0.2 meters to its right. An audible signal and a battery symbol on the display indicate charging status. The battery indicator on the display shows capacity during vacuuming and charging. The charging process should ideally not be interrupted. If the power to the charger is interrupted for more than 30 seconds, and the Trilobite was not manually placed on the charger, it will leave the charger, perform a brief spin, and then reconnect.

Magnetic Strips: These serve as "virtual walls" to block off areas like door and wall openings, staircases, and landings. They are crucial for correct operation and safety, preventing the Trilobite from falling down stairs or entering restricted zones. Magnetic strips should be affixed securely to the floor, especially on carpets with a pile depth of less than 15 mm. They should not be placed at an angle less than 90 degrees.

Timer: Allows setting the time duration for Normal or Quick vacuuming. This is useful for controlling the cleaning time, especially for larger floor surfaces.

Language Selection: The display messages can be set to English or Swedish.

Preparations Before Use:

  • Moving Furniture: While Trilobite can navigate around furniture, moving lighter items like chairs onto tables or shifting loose rugs can make cleaning quicker and more effective. Heavy furniture does not need to be moved.
  • Loose Objects: Small, loose objects (coins, rings, jewelry, cords) should be put away to prevent them from being vacuumed or obstructing the Trilobite's movement.

Safety Precautions:

  • Children: Do not leave children unsupervised with the Trilobite, as its movement can be exciting and potentially lead to injuries if a child accidentally starts it.
  • Risk of Falling: Trilobite cannot sense level differences, so magnetic strips must be used to block staircases, terraces, balconies, and other drop-offs.
  • Loose Objects on Tables: Trilobite stops before objects, but suspended cords, tablecloths, or belts could be caught, pulling objects off surfaces.
  • Combustibles: Never use Trilobite to vacuum rooms with lit candles, open fires, embers, or combustible substances like petrol, white spirit, or thinner. Avoid using it in rooms with combustible gases or where static electricity could ignite substances.
  • Liquids: Do not allow Trilobite to vacuum liquids, as this can severely damage the machine.
  • Personal Injury: Inform household members that Trilobite is operating to prevent stumbling, especially when it returns quietly to the charger. Do not sit or stand on the Trilobite.

Maintenance Features

Emptying and Cleaning the Dust Collector:

  • The dust collector should be emptied when its icon lights up on the display, or if the filter is blocked.
  • To empty: Press the button on the rear, lift the lid, take out the dust collector, remove the grille, and empty the contents (preferably into a plastic bag).
  • Insert a new filter and replace the grille. The motor filter should be replaced every tenth time the dust collector filter is replaced. Ensure the dust collector is correctly inserted for the lid to close properly.

Cleaning the Roller:

  • The roller should be checked each time the dust collector is emptied.
  • To clean: Lift the Trilobite by the handle, turn it upside down, push the locking knob to the right, and raise the cover. Lift the roller by the end without a drive belt, removing it by holding it at an angle and pulling it upwards/outwards.
  • Use scissors to cut away strings, threads, or hair. Do not wash the roller with water or other liquids.
  • To reinsert: Slide the roller in, secure the belt, and rotate it so the teeth engage securely. Press the roller downwards/inwards, replace the lid, ensuring the three pegs are correctly placed, and push down the lid.

Filter Replacement:

  • Filters are crucial for collecting dust particles. They should be replaced regularly. Electrolux micro filters are recommended for a snug fit and optimal performance.
  • Be cautious when emptying the filter if the Trilobite has vacuumed hazardous substances like rat poison, detergents, or disease carriers, or insects/spiders.

Batteries:

  • Only an Electrolux service center should replace the batteries to prevent overheating from incorrect battery types. Do not heat the batteries.

Storing:

  • When not in use, ensure small children cannot accidentally start the Trilobite.

Accessories:

  • Additional Chargers: Available for purchase to make vacuuming more convenient, e.g., one for each room or a weekend cottage.
  • Magnetic Strips: Available in various designs and lengths for creating virtual walls.
  • Filters: Sold in packages (10 dust collector filters + 1 motor protection filter). Filter subscription services are also available.
