Overview

This document is a user manual for the ELEM Garden Technic TRACT84-AR tractor mower, providing comprehensive instructions for its safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and storage. The manual is available in French, Dutch, German, and English.

Function Description

The TRACT84-AR is a tractor mower designed for outdoor use, specifically for cutting and collecting grass on lawns and grassy areas in gardens. It is not approved for public road use or for transporting people. The machine is equipped with a cutting deck that encloses a rotating blade, a grass-catcher for collecting cuttings, and a collector channel connecting the two. It features a LONCIN OHV 352cm³ electric start engine that powers both the blade and the wheels.

The machine incorporates several safety features, including switches that prevent the engine from starting if safety conditions are not met (e.g., transmission in neutral, blade disengaged, operator seated, parking brake engaged) and stop the engine if any safety requirement is violated (e.g., operator leaves seat with blade engaged or gear engaged, grass-catcher lifted with blade engaged, blade engaged without grass-catcher in place, parking brake engaged with blade engaged, speed change activated with parking brake on).

Usage Features

The TRACT84-AR is designed for safe and efficient grass cutting. Operators must be properly trained and familiar with all controls. It is crucial to wear sturdy footwear, long trousers, hearing protection, and safety glasses during operation. The area to be mowed should be inspected and cleared of any objects that could be ejected by the machine.

  • Starting the Engine: The engine must be started in an open, well-ventilated area. Before starting, the blade must be disengaged, the gear shift in neutral ("N"), and the parking brake engaged. For cold starts, the accelerator lever should be in the "CHOKE" position.
  • Driving: The machine has six speed positions (four forward, neutral, and reverse). To change gears, the clutch/brake pedal must be pressed halfway. The pedal also functions as a brake when fully depressed. Reverse gear should only be engaged when the machine is stopped.
  • Mowing: The machine is not designed for heavy-duty use or mowing large quantities of grass. The blade is engaged via an electromagnetic clutch. The cutting height can be adjusted using a lever with five positions (3.5 to 7.5 cm).
  • Slopes: The machine should not be used on slopes greater than 10° (17%). On slopes, always move up and down, never across. Reduce speed on slopes and tight turns. Never descend slopes in neutral; always engage a low gear.
  • Grass-catcher: The grass-catcher must be correctly installed for safe operation. It should be emptied when full to prevent blockages in the collector channel.
  • Cleaning: After each use, the machine's exterior and grass-catcher should be cleaned. The cutting deck's interior can be cleaned by connecting a water hose to a fitting, sitting in the operator's seat, lowering the cutting deck, starting the engine in neutral, and engaging the blade for a few minutes. Compressed air can be used to clean the upper part of the cutting deck.
  • Safety Devices: The machine is equipped with safety switches that prevent engine start-up if conditions are not met and stop the engine if any safety condition is violated. These devices should never be tampered with.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the machine's optimal performance and longevity.

  • Engine: Follow the instructions in the engine manual for all engine-related maintenance. The engine oil should be drained using a syringe (not supplied) by unscrewing the filling cap and inserting the syringe tube. The engine is delivered without oil or petrol.
  • Transmission and Gear Unit: These are sealed, lubricated-for-life units that do not require maintenance, oil changes, or topping up.
  • Battery: The battery must always be charged before first use, before prolonged storage (more than 1 month), and before starting the machine after prolonged disuse. Improper charging or failure to charge can permanently damage the battery. During long storage periods, the battery should be charged 1-2 times during winter to maintain full capacity. The battery should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and humidity. Only the original charger (RIDER61-P-CHARG, if optional) should be used.
  • Tires: Correct tire pressure is crucial for an even cut. Pressure values are 1.5 bar for both front and rear tires.
  • Fuses: The electrical system and electronic card are protected by fuses. A blown fuse (10A) must be replaced with one of the same type and amperage.
  • Blades: Blades must be kept sharp and in good condition. Worn or damaged blades should be replaced in sets to maintain balance. Sharpening, balancing, and replacement of blades are complex operations that should be performed by a specialized service center. Always wear work gloves when handling blades.
  • Storage: For long periods of inactivity (more than 1 month), follow the engine manual instructions. Drain the fuel tank by removing the screw from the fuel filter. Remove any dry grass cuttings around the engine or silencer to prevent fire. Store the machine in a dry, sheltered place, preferably covered with a cloth.
  • Environmental Protection: Dispose of used oil, fuel, damaged parts, and other pollutants in designated waste treatment centers for recycling, not with domestic waste.

For any complex repairs or adjustments not described in the manual, contact an authorized service center or your retailer. The warranty is void if repairs are performed incorrectly or by unqualified personnel.
