Overview

This document describes the Emerald heat pump hot water system, a device designed to provide efficient and sustainable hot water heating.

Function Description

The Emerald heat pump is an advanced hot water heater that leverages standard electric water heaters with heat pump technology. It extracts heat from the air, delivering exceptional energy and cost savings. The system operates like a reverse refrigerator, absorbing heat from the ambient air, compressing it, and transferring that heat to the water. Emerald heat pumps can save up to 80% on hot water costs while offering an eco-friendly heating solution.

The system offers convenient control through the Emerald app, allowing users to:

  • Monitor electricity consumption: View real-time electricity usage.
  • Real-time hot water temperature: Access current water temperature data.
  • Remote control: Turn the heat pump on or off from anywhere.
  • Boost hot water: Activate a boost feature for faster heating.
  • Silent Mode: Operate the heat pump more quietly.

The Emerald app also includes "Smart Actions" to automate temperature control and optimize energy savings. These actions allow users to set specific rules for their heat pump, such as:

  • Solar Soaker: Automatically turn on when solar panels generate surplus power to use free solar energy.
  • Set Schedules: Schedule heating during off-peak electricity times to save money.

Usage Features

Controller Instructions: The control panel allows users to:

  • Power On/Off: Turn the device on or off.
  • Mode Selection: Choose between different operating modes (Standard, Silent, Boost).
  • Up/Down Buttons: Adjust settings like temperature or time.
  • Clock Button: Set the current time.
  • Timer Button: Set schedules for heating.

Wi-Fi Pairing:

  1. Download the Emerald app and create an account.
  2. Tap (+) to "Add Product" and choose Bluetooth or AP mode.
  3. Connect your mobile device to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  4. Ensure the Heat Pump is powered on and the controller's display is active.
  5. Follow in-app instructions to activate Pairing Mode (hold power button for 5 seconds to turn off child lock).
  6. Confirm the Wi-Fi symbol is flashing on the display.
  7. Return to the app, complete pairing, select model number, scan serial number, and enter installation date.

Pairing Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Ensure mobile device is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify Wi-Fi password is correct.
  • Move Wi-Fi router closer to the heat pump or use an extender.
  • If the device times out (after 2 minutes), press the mode button + or - to re-enter pairing mode.

Important Usage Tips:

  • Allow your heat pump to breathe: Ensure proper airflow by keeping the area around it clear.
  • Routine clean for your heat pump: Regularly clean to prevent dirt and leaves from impacting operation.
  • Servicing your heat pump: For best efficiency, regular servicing by qualified electrical appliance services is recommended.

Legionella Control: The system heats at least 45% of the water tank to 60°C daily for legionella control. This sterilization process occurs daily regardless of manual settings.

Maintenance Features

Commissioning the System:

  • Adjustments: Make electrical safety inspections and check the PCB, indicator light, drainage, and heating functionality.
  • Pipes and Lines: Ensure pipes and lines are installed correctly, accessories are connected, and adequate insulation is applied.
  • Electrical Leakage: Verify electrical leakage protector is functioning.

Operation and Maintenance:

  • Professional Knowledge: Individuals should have professional knowledge when operating and maintaining the system.
  • Protect Components: To protect components from damage, do not make any unauthorized adjustments.
  • Regular Monitoring: Observe operational parameters to ensure they remain within normal ranges.
  • Electrical Connections: Regularly inspect electrical connections for any signs of looseness.
  • Post-Overtime Cleaning: After an extended period of downtime, clean the water pump, fan, and connections.
  • Replacement Parts: Replacement parts must be genuine Emerald heat pump components.

Refrigerant Filling:

  • Check the refrigerant filling status by reading the liquid level data on the pressure gauge.
  • If there is a refrigerant leakage or if components in the refrigeration system are replaced, contact an air-tightness examination as the first step.

To remove the compressor:

  • Turn off the power supply.
  • Gradually release the refrigerant from the low-pressure end.
  • Disconnect the compressor's air suction and exhaust pipes.
  • Disconnect the compressor's power cables.
  • Unscrew and remove the compressor fixing screws.
  • Remove the compressor.

Checking the TPR Valve:

  • Perform checks every six months and replace if needed.
  • Locate the TPR valve on the left side of the unit.
  • Drain water from the tank to release the valve.
  • If water flows freely, it indicates the TPR valve is still in good working condition.
  • If a replacement is required, contact customer service.

Expanding Control Valve:

  • Please adhere to local regulations and requirements.
  • Ensure the installation does not exceed the safety diameter.
  • Ensure the drain is adequately sized to accommodate water runoff.
  • The drain outlet should always remain open to the atmosphere.
  • It is recommended that the ECV is rated at no more than 700kPa.

Checking the Anode & Replacing if Required:

  • The anode is a crucial component that safeguards the inner lining of the hot water tank.
  • Turn off the power and shut off the cold water inlet valve.
  • Open a hot water tap to relieve pressure within the tank.
  • Locate the position of the anode.
  • Remove the anode cover by loosening the two screws.
  • Remove the anode.
  • Examine for signs of degradation.
  • If it is still in good condition, reinstall it.
  • If it is degraded, replace the anode.
  • Reopen the cold water inlet valve.
  • Open a hot water tap until hot water flows out.
  • Turn on the power to restart the unit.
  • Your unit can now be used as usual.
