The Emeril Lagasse Smokeless Grill Elite is an indoor electric grill designed to provide outdoor grilling results with minimal smoke. It features a built-in electric fan and a silicon-sealed hinged lid, which contribute to its smokeless operation and help maintain cooking temperature, seal in flavor, and prevent splatter.

Function Description:

The Smokeless Grill Elite allows users to grill various foods indoors without the excessive smoke typically associated with grilling. It offers adjustable temperature settings, a nonstick cooking surface, and a removable glass lid for versatile cooking. The appliance is designed for household use and is not intended for commercial or semiprofessional environments.

Usage Features:

• Control Panel:
  • Power Button (B): Turns the appliance on/off. An LED light (A) blinks when unplugged and stays lit when powered on.
  • Fan Button (C): Activates the electric fan. A Fan LED (D) lights up when the fan is running. The fan should remain on throughout grilling to prevent smoke and grease buildup.
  • Temperature Buttons (E): Allows users to adjust the cooking temperature from 200° F/93° C to 450° F/232° C. Temperatures can be changed at any time during cooking. A warm setting (200° F/93° C to 250° F/121° C) is available to keep food warm.
• Cooking Plates: Comes with both a Nonstick Grill Plate and a Griddle Plate (2), which are interchangeable. These plates have metal handles for easy removal and attachment.
• Glass Lid: A silicon-sealed hinged glass lid (1) helps maintain cooking temperature, seals in flavor, and prevents splatter. The lid is removable for cleaning and may come preassembled.
• Drip Tray and Water Tray: The appliance includes a Drip Tray (4) and a Water Tray (6) in the base unit. Approximately 2 cups (473 ml) of water should be added to the Water Tray before cooking.
• Preheating: For a cold grill, preheating for 4–6 minutes at a medium or high heat setting is recommended.
• Food Preparation: Users can spray or wipe the cooking surface with cooking oil. It is important to use separate utensils and platters for raw and cooked meat to prevent cross-contamination. Marinades should be refrigerated, and leftover wet marinades used as sauce should be brought to a rolling boil.

  • Partially cook bone-in chicken, ribs, and uncooked smoked or fresh sausages before grilling for best results to prevent overbrowning.
  • Use nonmetallic utensils to avoid scratching the nonstick coating.
  • Do not cut food directly on the Grill Plate with sharp utensils.
  • Protect countertops from splatter, especially when cooking high-fat foods.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check internal food temperatures.
  • Cooking times are suggestions and may vary based on food thickness and personal preferences.
• Safety Precautions:
  • Always operate on a level, stable, noncombustible, and heat-resistant surface.
  • Ensure proper air space (at least 5 inches) around the appliance.
  • Never immerse the Main Unit Housing (containing electrical components and heating elements) in water.
  • Do not use the appliance if the plug, power cable, or appliance itself is damaged.
  • Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces and out of reach of children.
  • Wear oven mitts when handling hot components or touching hot surfaces, as the glass lid and handle get very hot.
  • Unplug immediately if black smoke is emitted and wait for smoking to stop.
  • Do not use an extension cord or external timer switch/remote-control system.
  • Do not operate on or near combustible materials (e.g., tablecloths, curtains).
  • Do not operate unattended.
  • Do not place the appliance on stovetop surfaces.

Maintenance Features:

• Cooling: Allow the appliance to cool completely for approximately 30 minutes before handling, cleaning, or storing.
• Cleaning:
  • The Grill Plate, Drip Tray, Collection Pan, and Glass Lid are dishwasher-safe (bottom rack) or can be hand-washed with warm, soapy water.
  • The Base Unit can be hand-washed with a warm, damp cloth and mild cleaning liquid.
  • The Electric Fan can be removed for thorough cleaning of the Base Unit.
  • Always wash the grill surface after each use to remove accumulated grease.
  • Ensure the Drip Tray is clear of food particles to prevent grease from dripping.
  • Do not use scouring pads or harsh cleaners; use a nylon bristle brush or plastic scrubbing pad if necessary.
• Electric Fan Removal (for thorough cleaning):
  1. Turn over the Base Unit.
  2. Remove the screw in the Fan Cover (8) and remove the cover.
  3. Lift the Fan (7) out of the Base Unit (may require pressing on fan prongs).
  4. Exercise care due to sharp fan blades.
  5. When reinserting, ensure the two-prong connection is properly inserted into the receptacle.
