Overview

The provided document describes the Appleton™ Temporary LED Worksite Lighting, a portable electric luminaire designed for temporary illumination in worksite environments.

Function Description

The Appleton™ Temporary LED Worksite Lighting is designed to provide temporary illumination in various worksite settings. It is a portable electric luminaire that can be secured to ceilings or walls using a handle or hanging hole located at the top of the unit. Multiple units can be linked together in series to extend the illuminated area. The device is intended for use by industrial users and professionals familiar with electrical codes and equipment maintenance.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Rating: Rated for 120V AC 50/60Hz.
  • Weight: Each luminaire unit weighs 4.2 lb.
  • Maximum Connected Units: Up to six 100W units can be connected in series.
  • Maximum String Wattage: The total string wattage, including any additional string loads, must not exceed the specified maximum (e.g., for 100W units, 6 units max).
  • Environmental Suitability: Suitable for dry and damp locations. Not intended for use in extreme heat, sealed environments, or areas with corrosive gases, as these conditions may affect service life.
  • Grounding: Requires use on grounded circuits to prevent electrical shock.
  • Emergency Exits: Not intended for use with emergency exits.

Usage Features

  • Portability and Mounting: The luminaire is portable and can be easily secured to ceilings or walls using its integrated handle or hanging hole. Users must ensure the attachment means can support the unit's weight (4.2 lb).
  • Daisy-Chaining Capability: Multiple units can be linked in series. This is achieved by opening a receptacle access door on one luminaire and connecting the plug of an additional luminaire into the receptacle. A buckle then rotates downward to secure the molded plug end.
  • Receptacle Access Door: The receptacle access door should be kept closed if luminaires are not connected in series to maintain safety and integrity.
  • Power Source Connection: The luminaire connects to a 120V AC 50/60Hz power source. It is crucial to always use a grounded outlet.
  • Disconnection: To discontinue use, the power cord must be disconnected from the power source.
  • Load Restrictions: Users are explicitly warned not to connect other loads such as appliances, space heaters, or power tools to the light string, as this can exceed the maximum string wattage and pose a risk of electric shock and fire.
  • Environmental Considerations: While suitable for damp locations, the product should never be submerged in liquids. Care should be taken not to drop the fixture to prevent damage.
  • Installation Guidance: Installation, testing, and maintenance must be performed by professionals familiar with all national and local electrical codes.

Maintenance Features

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Upon opening the package, the product should be carefully inspected for any damage. If damaged, the packaging should be retained, and the local supplier contacted immediately.
  • Regular Cord Inspection: The electrical cord should be regularly inspected for any signs of damage. If the power cord shows damage or punctures, the luminaire should not be used, and a new one should be purchased.
  • Fixture Integrity Check: Periodically check the diffuser and the top or bottom body of the luminaire for cracks or damage. Any cracks or damage necessitate ordering a replacement luminaire.
  • Troubleshooting Electrical Issues:
    • Voltage Verification: If the luminaire fails to operate, a Digital Multimeter (DMM) set to the volt AC scale can be used to verify that the supply voltage is correct (120±5VAC).
    • Ground Short Check: A DMM set to its lowest Ohm scale can be used to check for a short to ground. This involves firmly touching one lead to a plug blade and the other to the ground pin. An open circuit reading (infinite Ohms) should be observed. If a short exists, the luminaire must not be operated.
  • Power Disconnection for Servicing: Before attempting any inspection or repair work, the luminaire must be disconnected (unplugged) from its power source to prevent electric shock.
  • Non-Operational Status: If the luminaire fails to operate due to a break in the power circuit or a component failure, it is considered non-operational and should not be operated.
  • Caution Label Awareness: Users should take note of all caution labels present on the product.
  • Proper Handling: The fixture should not be hung by its electrical cord; instead, the manufacturer's handle or hanging hole at the top of the unit should be used.
  • Liquid Contact: The product should not be submerged in liquids. If the equipment becomes wet, the power should be disconnected to avoid shock.
  • Load Restrictions (Maintenance Context): Do not connect other loads such as appliances, space heaters, or power tools to the light string.
  • Packaging Retention: In case of damage upon delivery, keep the packaging and contact the supplier.
  • Documentation: Retain the instruction sheet for future reference to ensure safe installation and operation.
