Overview

This document is a user manual for the Ecomotion City+ electric bicycle. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety, ensuring users can get the most out of their bike while minimizing risks.

Function Description

The Ecomotion City+ is an electric bicycle designed for urban and trail riding. Its primary function is to provide an assisted cycling experience through its electric motor, which can be engaged via two main systems:

  • PAS (Pedal Assist System): A sensor located at the crank recognizes pedal movement and operates the motor according to the assistance level set on the display. This system provides a natural cycling feel, augmenting the rider's pedaling effort.
  • TAG (Twist And Go): A throttle located on the handlebar activates the motor when twisted, allowing for propulsion without pedaling.

The bike features a display that serves as the central control and information hub. It allows users to turn the power on/off, switch between PAS speed levels (from "0" for no support to "5" for strongest support), and view various ride information. The display also includes a "walking mode" which, when activated, assists in pushing the bike at a slow speed. Settings on the display can be adjusted to customize the bike's behavior, including screen backlight, speed unit (Km/h or MPH), battery voltage, display shut-off time, speed limit, and PAS/TAG system configurations.

The electric system is powered by a rechargeable battery, which is integrated into the bike's frame. The battery can be mounted and dismounted using a key and lever system. The bike is equipped with disc brakes for effective stopping power, a headlight for visibility, and a front fender to protect against splashes.

Usage Features

The Ecomotion City+ offers several features designed for ease of use and a customizable riding experience:

  • Assembly: The manual provides detailed instructions for assembling key components such as the handlebar, front wheel, headlight, front fender, seat, and pedals. This ensures that users can set up their bike correctly and safely.
  • Handlebar Adjustment: Both the angle of the stem and the angle of the handlebar itself can be adjusted to suit the rider's preference, enhancing comfort and control.
  • Brake Adjustment: The brake sensitivity can be adjusted using a small Allen screw located between the brake lever and the handlebar. The manual also describes a procedure for realigning brake calipers if the disc rubs against the pads.
  • Battery Management: The battery is designed for easy mounting and dismounting, allowing for convenient charging and storage. The display provides information about battery current voltage.
  • Display Controls: The display is intuitive, with buttons for power, PAS level adjustment, and accessing settings. A long press on the "M" button turns the display on/off, while short presses cycle through information. The walking mode is activated by a long press on the "-" button.
  • PAS and TAG Customization: Users can configure how the PAS and TAG systems operate, choosing between PAS only, TAG only, or a combination of both, and adjusting PAS sensitivity and start strength.
  • Error Symbols: The display can show error symbols for low voltage protection, controller failure, brake failure, throttle failure, and motor failure, helping users identify and address potential issues.
  • Pre-Ride Inspection: A comprehensive checklist is provided for pre-ride inspection, covering wheels, handlebar, spokes, bearings, brakes, tires, rims, lights, horn, component placement, frame integrity, and battery mounting, ensuring the bike is in safe operating condition.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Ecomotion City+. The manual outlines several maintenance practices:

  • Charger Inspection: Before each charge, the charger should be inspected for tears in electric cords, exposed wires, melted body, or damaged output plug. Damaged chargers must not be used.
  • Battery Charging: The battery should be charged with the original charger only, and never left unattended or charged overnight. The charging process should be terminated immediately if the battery overheats. The recommended storage temperature for the battery is between 50°-80°F.
  • Battery Lifespan Preservation: To maximize battery lifespan, it should be charged fully at least once every 20 charging cycles and not left uncharged for more than 24 hours. If stored for a prolonged period (over 45 days), it should be disassembled from the bike, stored in a cool, dry place, and recharged periodically. The bike's electric system should be turned off when not riding.
  • General Cleaning: The bike should be cleaned using a moist rag only, avoiding direct water pouring or spraying. After cleaning, all metal parts (excluding aluminum) should be oiled.
  • Lubrication: The bike chain and metal parts (excluding aluminum) should be oiled regularly, with increased frequency in humid or wet areas. The battery and motor should not be oiled.
  • Component Inspection: Brakes and their pads need regular inspection at a bicycle store. Electrical wiring and connectors should be checked occasionally for tears, damage, or loose connections. All moving components and bearings should be cleaned regularly.
  • Part Replacement: Only original parts or substitutes permitted by Ecomotion Bike should be used. Consulting with Ecomotion Bike is advised before using substitute parts to avoid voiding the warranty.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Users are encouraged to recycle old batteries at a local battery-recycling center due to their toxic materials.
