Control Pad Setup Procedure

Overview

This document is an installation guide for the Epson Control Pad and Touch Unit, specifically for use with the BrightLink® Pro 1430Wi ultra-short-throw projector and the ELPMB28 wall mount. It provides detailed instructions for setting up these components, ensuring correct operation and user safety.

The Touch Unit is a Class 1 laser product designed to enable interactive functionality with the projector. Its primary function is to detect finger touch operations on the projected screen, allowing users to interact directly with the displayed image. For installation, the Touch Unit can be secured to a surface using magnets or, if the surface is non-magnetic, with M4 screws. It is crucial that the installation surface is flat, smooth, unwarped, and has no more than 0.2 inches (5 mm) of unevenness in any direction to ensure accurate finger detection. The Touch Unit must be installed above the image area, and when used with a whiteboard, it should be placed within the whiteboard's frame. It connects to the projector via a dedicated connection cable.

A key feature of the Touch Unit is its angle adjustment capability. This process involves turning adjustment dials on the unit to ensure the laser light correctly detects finger positions. Markers, stored inside the Touch Unit, are used during this adjustment to guide the alignment. The installation pattern displayed by the projector helps in positioning the Touch Unit accurately, aligning its center line with the pattern's center and its bottom edge with a specific distance from the top of the projected image. After initial setup, a "Touch Calibration" step is required to optimize accuracy.

Maintenance features for the Touch Unit include storing the markers inside the unit when not in use and attaching labels to the tabs on either side. These labels serve as reference points for repositioning the Touch Unit if it accidentally moves, helping maintain calibration. The dial cover should be attached and secured with a screw after adjustments are complete.

The guide emphasizes several safety precautions for the Touch Unit. Users are warned not to view the laser light directly with optical devices, especially within 2.75 inches (70 mm), as this could cause eyesight injury. It is critical to connect the Touch Unit only to the BrightLink Pro 1430Wi model and not to other projectors or devices. The Touch Unit contains magnets, so individuals with medical equipment like pacemakers should avoid using it, as electromagnetic interference could cause malfunctions. Magnetic storage media should also be kept away from the Touch Unit to prevent data corruption. During angle adjustment, no objects other than the markers should be near the projected image, and shadows from the user's body or arm should not cover the markers. Finger touch operations may not function correctly if fingers are obstructed by bandages, artificial nails, or nail polish.

The Control Pad serves as a remote control and interface for the projector, offering functions such as source search, capture, print, and save. It can be powered by two AA batteries or by the projector itself using an optional Remote Control Cable Set (model ELPKC28). The Control Pad must be installed on the same surface as the projection screen, within a specified range from the projector. If using batteries, the installation location must ensure no obstacles between the Control Pad and the projector (excluding the Touch Unit). If the screen and Control Pad installation point are uneven by more than 2 inches (5 cm), or if multiple projectors are used, the remote control cable set is recommended.

Installation of the Control Pad involves removing a cable cover, attaching the unit to the wall with M4 x 20 mm screws, and either installing batteries or connecting it to the projector via the remote control cable. If installed on a table, supplied rubber feet should be attached to prevent slipping. The guide provides specific cable routing instructions, including using designated holes for cables passing through a wall or removing a cable cover for routing through an opening.

Usage features of the Control Pad include various connectivity options. USB cables (USB 1, 2, 3, 4) are used for different functions: USB 1 for projecting images from or saving data to a USB flash drive, USB 2 and 3 for projecting computer images with USB Display or performing mouse functions for easy interactive use, and USB 4 for printing projected images. The remote control cable set supplies power from the projector. Port protection stickers are provided to cover unused ports on the Control Pad.

Safety warnings for the Control Pad include ensuring it is only connected to the BrightLink Pro 1420Wi/1430Wi models. When attaching the Control Pad, screws must not be angled, and the unit must be firmly attached. Double-sided tape or magnets should not be used for attachment. Before securing the Control Pad, it's advised to check that it operates correctly. For battery installation, users are directed to read the safety instructions in the projector's online User's Guide. Only two AA manganese or alkaline batteries are recommended, and rechargeable batteries should not be used. If the projector powers the Control Pad via the remote control cable, batteries are not needed.

Overall, this guide ensures a safe and effective installation of both the Control Pad and Touch Unit, enabling the full interactive capabilities of the BrightLink Pro 1430Wi projector.
