Overview

This document describes the Escolite 51 LED UV Flashlight, a device designed for detecting substances that fluoresce under ultraviolet light, such as dried urine stains.

Function Description:

The Escolite 51 LED UV Flashlight utilizes 51 ultraviolet LEDs to emit high-intensity UV light. This light causes certain materials, like dried urine, to glow, making them visible to the naked eye. The flashlight is particularly useful for identifying pet stains that may not be visible under normal lighting conditions.

Important Technical Specifications:

The flashlight operates using three (3) AA alkaline batteries. It is explicitly stated that rechargeable or Lithium-ion batteries should NOT be used due to potential fire, explosion, and burn hazards. The manufacturer strongly recommends using only high-quality AA alkaline batteries from a reputable manufacturer.

Usage Features:

  • Battery Installation: To get started, the user must unfasten the tail cap and remove the battery holder. Three (3) AA alkaline batteries are then inserted into the holder, ensuring correct polarity (+,-) as marked. The battery holder is then reinserted into the flashlight, following the direction of an arrow, and the tail cap is fastened securely.
  • Operation: The flashlight is turned on and off by firmly pressing the power button.
  • Optimal Detection Conditions: For best results when detecting urine stains, it is crucial to search in complete darkness. This allows for the full spectrum of glows, from vivid to faint, to be seen clearly. The flashlight is most effective on dried urine stains and may not work well on fresh or wet stains, or specifically on cat urine.
  • Surface Considerations: Detection can be difficult on dark or patterned surfaces because darker colors absorb more light, reducing the visibility of glows and making contrasts harder to detect. Light-colored carpets, for instance, will show dirt or stains more easily under UV light than dark ones.
  • Troubleshooting for Non-Glow: If the UV light does not make urine glow, potential reasons include insufficiently dried urine, used or low-power batteries (as Escolite LEDs use a lot of battery power, and weaker batteries result in lower UV output), not searching in complete darkness, not searching in the correct areas, or attempting to detect on difficult dark/patterned surfaces.

Maintenance Features:

  • Monthly Inspection: The flashlight should be inspected monthly. Any damaged batteries must be carefully removed, and any corrosion should be cleaned.
  • Battery Removal (Infrequent Use): If the flashlight is used less than once a month, the batteries should be removed between uses to prevent potential leakage or damage.
  • Lubrication: All threads and rubber O-rings on the flashlight should be lubricated with petroleum jelly twice yearly. This helps maintain the integrity of the seals and smooth operation of threaded parts.

Safety Precautions:

  • UV Light Exposure: The flashlight emits high-intensity ultraviolet light. Users are cautioned to avoid eye and skin exposure. Proper eye and skin protection should be worn during use.
  • Battery Safety: As mentioned, rechargeable or Lithium-ion batteries are hazardous and should not be used. Mixing different brands or types of batteries in the same flashlight is also prohibited. All batteries should be replaced at the same time. Failure to follow these safety instructions can result in personal injury and property damage.

Warranty and Support:

The Escolite 51 LED UV Flashlight comes with a Limited One-Year Warranty against defects in material or workmanship, starting from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or damage from misuse or neglect. Escolite reserves the right to repair, replace, or refund the purchase price if the product is determined to be defective. Liability is limited to the purchase price of the product, and Escolite is not liable for incidental or consequential damages or any implied warranty. Troubleshooting for Malfunctions:

If the flashlight flickers, works intermittently, or does not turn on, users should check the following:

  • Batteries are fully inserted with correct polarity.
  • Each battery end is touching a metal contact in the battery holder.
  • Battery holder contacts are clean, and springs are not bent.
  • The flashlight's inner spring is firmly attached and not bent.
  • The battery holder is inserted correctly, following the arrow direction.
  • The tail cap is twisted on tightly. After checking these points, firmly press the power button on and off several times. If the flashlight still does not turn on, replace the batteries. If the problem persists, contact Escolite for a replacement.
