The ETS-Lindgren HI-6113 is a Laser Data Interface and Probe Measurement System designed for use with HI-61XX Series Field Probes. It functions as an automated laser controller, accepting commands from computer software to manage the laser and retrieve data from the field probe.
The HI-6113 system facilitates the measurement of electromagnetic fields by providing power to and communicating with an ETS-Lindgren HI-61XX Series Field Probe. The core of its operation involves a laser that generates light power, which is transmitted via an optical fiber cable assembly to a photo-voltaic converter within the Field Probe. This converter powers the probe's circuitry. The same duplex fiber cable is used for bidirectional communication between the Field Probe and the HI-6113.
When the computer software issues a command to activate the system, the HI-6113 initiates a startup sequence, turning on the laser. Once powered up and running, the Field Probe continuously sends data to the HI-6113. The interface then returns this data to the computer software upon request, either in its raw, unprocessed form or as processed data, depending on the format requested. The USB interface serves as the primary channel for data communication between the computer software and the HI-6113.
A crucial safety feature of the Field Probe system is an interlock mechanism. This mechanism automatically turns off the laser if the HI-6113 does not receive data from the probe within a specified timeframe. This prevents potential injury from the laser if the fiber optic cables are disconnected, improperly connected, cut, or damaged while the HI-6113 attempts to turn on the laser.
The system is powered by a universal input DC power supply, which provides 5 volts DC to the HI-6113.
