Overview

The ESRTE2 Electronic Room Thermostat is a user-friendly device designed to control the heating system in a home, aiming for energy efficiency and comfort. This thermostat operates by sensing the ambient air temperature and switching the heating system on or off accordingly. When the room temperature drops below the user-defined setting, the thermostat activates the heating. Conversely, once the desired temperature is reached, it switches the heating off to prevent overheating and save energy.

One of the core principles of this room thermostat is that turning the dial to a higher setting will not accelerate the heating process. The speed at which a room heats up is determined by the design of the heating system itself, including factors like the size of the boiler and radiators. Similarly, adjusting the thermostat does not influence how quickly the room cools down. The primary benefit of setting a lower temperature is energy conservation, as the heating system will then maintain the room at that reduced temperature, leading to lower energy consumption. It's important to note that the heating system will only operate if a time switch or programmer has not already turned it off. The overall insulation quality of the house also plays a significant role in the effectiveness of heating control.

For optimal use and energy saving, the manufacturer recommends finding the lowest temperature setting that provides comfortable warmth and then leaving the thermostat at that setting. A suggested approach is to initially set the thermostat to a relatively low temperature, such as 18°C, and then gradually increase it until a comfortable temperature is achieved (20°C is often a preferred set point). Once this comfort level is established, further adjustments should be unnecessary. Any increase in temperature beyond this comfortable setting will result in wasted energy and higher heating costs.

In homes with a boiler and radiators, there is typically one room thermostat responsible for controlling the heating for the entire house. However, building regulations (specifically Part L) may require houses above a certain size to have more than one heating zone, each with its own control.

Proper placement of the room thermostat is crucial for accurate temperature sensing. It requires a free flow of air around it and should not be obstructed by curtains or furniture. Additionally, nearby heat sources such as electric fires, televisions, or wall/table lamps can interfere with its proper functioning by emitting heat that skews its readings. Direct sunlight should also be avoided for the same reason, as it can cause the thermostat to register a higher temperature than the actual ambient air, leading to premature shutdown of the heating system.

Setting the temperature on the ESRTE2 is straightforward. Users simply turn the dial until the desired temperature aligns with the temperature mark, which is indicated by an LED. When the heating system is actively calling for heat, a red LED light will illuminate, providing a visual indication that the system is operational. Conversely, when the system is not calling for heat, the LED light will turn off. This visual feedback allows users to quickly ascertain the status of their heating system.

The manufacturer is committed to continuous product development, focusing on energy-saving technology and user simplicity. Should users have any questions regarding the setup or operation of their controls, they are encouraged to contact the manufacturer via email at sales@esicontrols.co.uk.

A critical maintenance and warranty note is that any interference with sealed parts of the device will render the guarantee void. This emphasizes the importance of not attempting to open or tamper with the internal components of the thermostat. The manufacturer also reserves the right to alter designs, specifications, and materials without prior notice as part of their continuous product improvement efforts and cannot accept liability for errors. This ensures that the product can evolve with technological advancements while maintaining quality and performance.
