Do you have a question about the ETC Penko SGM700 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The PENKO SGM700 Digitizer is a versatile weighing indicator designed for integration into various industrial and factory automation systems. It serves as a partner for fully engineered factory solutions, offering a range of models (SGM700, SGM710, SGM720, SGM740, SGM750, SGM760) to cater to different communication and application needs.

Function Description

The SGM700 Digitizer's primary function is to accurately measure and display weight values from connected load cells. It can operate in various weighing modes, including standard indication, fast indication, silo, platform, belt weighing (slow and fast), filling (slow and fast), and checkweighing (slow and fast). The device supports multiple range and multi-interval modes, allowing for flexible display resolution depending on the gross or net weight on the scale.

It features four configurable outputs that can switch on/off based on different weight levels, making it suitable for setpoint control applications. The analog output (optional) can be configured to represent weight values as current signals (0-20mA, 4-20mA, 0-24mA, 4-24mA) or as a raw register value, providing an interface for external control systems.

Communication capabilities are a key feature of the SGM700 series. Depending on the model, it supports:

  • Local bus (RS485): For communication with multiple devices.
  • Ethernet (SGM720): Supporting Ethernet IP, Omron Fins, and Modbus TCP protocols, allowing for network integration and remote monitoring.
  • Profibus DP (SGM740): For integration into Profibus networks, enabling data exchange with PLCs.
  • Serial (RS232/RS422 for SGM750): Supporting various protocols like Printerm ASCII, NPV Slave, Modbus RTU, and Modbus ASCII for serial communication with other devices or printers.
  • Profinet (SGM760): For integration into Profinet networks.

The device includes an Alibi Memory function, which saves information about dosed weight (for MFL models), checked weight (for CHK models), and actual weigher values (for Indicator models). This feature is crucial for traceability and compliance in certified weighing applications. An Event Log automatically records system events such as software updates and calibrations, providing a historical record of device changes.

Configuration of the SGM700 can be done either directly through the front panel keys and display or via the PI Mach II software, which offers a comprehensive interface for setting up all parameters, calibrating the device, and managing communication settings.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Mounting: Designed for 35mm DIN rail mounting.
  • Power Supply: Class 2 or Limited Power Source, rated 18 - 32 Vdc, 0.2A@24Vdc. When powered by USB (not 24Vdc), the load cell interface and analog output are non-functional.
  • Heat Dissipation: Requires 30mm of space above and below for adequate heat dissipation.
  • Load Cell Connection: 6-wire load cell connection, Vexc=5Vdc.
  • Inputs: Input 1=5kHz 18-28Vdc (for SGM700, SGM720, SGM740, SGM750, SGM760).
  • Outputs: 25V/0.5A AC/DC (for SGM700, SGM720, SGM740, SGM750, SGM760).
  • Analog Output (optional): 0/4-20mA or 0/4-24mA.
  • Display: LED display for weight values, status indicators (Weigher stable, Zero active, Tare active, Output active 1-4, Profinet BUS state).
  • Sample Rate: Configurable from 10 to 1600 samples/sec.
  • Digital Filter: 2nd order filter with configurable cutoff frequencies (oFF, 1.0Hz, 1.4Hz, 2.5Hz, 5.0Hz, 10.0Hz, 20.0Hz, 40Hz) and moving average cutoff frequencies (0-320 Hz).
  • Amplifier Sensitivity: Selectable between 1.0mV/V, 1.5mV/V, 2.0mV/V, 2.5mV/V, and 3.0mV/V.
  • Input Offset: Configurable between -50000 and 50000.
  • Operation Mode: Industrial or Certified mode. In certified mode, weighing parameters are blocked to comply with calibration laws.
  • Zero Band (Certified Mode): Fixed at 4% (+2 and -2%). Zero suppressing (FIL 3) is disabled in certified mode.

Usage Features

  • Intuitive Front Panel Operation: The device can be fully configured using three front keys for short and long presses, allowing for navigation through menus, value adjustments, and confirmation of settings.
  • Display Indication at Startup: Provides a sequence of information including display test, model name, software version, software update counter, Traceable Access Code (TAC), Calibration Code (CAL), and delay time for warming up.
  • Weigher Settings: Allows setting maximum net weight value, display step size (1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500), and decimal point position.
  • Multiple Range/Multi-Interval Modes: Configurable to adjust display resolution based on weight, with parameters for range size and maximum step size.
  • Calibration: Supports both direct calibration with reference weights (zero point and gain point) and theoretical calibration using load cell specifications (maximum load, sensitivity, input offset).
