Overview

This document describes the Eurolux Halogen Security Light with Motion Sensor, available in two models: FS8 and FS9.

Function Description

The Eurolux Halogen Security Light is designed to automatically control an outdoor floodlight's activation upon detection of human presence. It integrates a Passive Infrared (PIR) motion sensor with a halogen floodlight to provide security lighting. The floodlight is not intended for any other purpose beyond this automatic activation.

Important Technical Specifications

Fitting:

  • Material: Die cast aluminium.
  • IP Rating: IP44. This means it is protected against solid foreign objects of 1.0mm Ø and greater, and protected against splashing water.
  • Electrical Protection: Class 1, requiring an earth connection.
  • Maximum Ambient Temperature Range: -20°C to 40°C.
  • Application: Suitable for commercial/domestic use and outdoor use when used correctly.

Lamp Type:

  • FS8 Model: Includes 1 x R7s QI maximum 150W 230V lamp.
  • FS9 Model: Includes 1 x R7s QI maximum 500W 230V lamp.
  • Voltage: 220V - 240V ~ 50Hz.

Motion Sensor (PIR):

  • Detection Angle: 180°.
  • Detection Range: 12 meters.
  • Time Delay: Adjustable from 9 seconds to 10 minutes.

Dimensions:

  • FS8 Model: (H)200mm x (W)135mm x (D)195mm.
  • FS9 Model: (H)250mm x (W)185mm x (D)225mm.

Usage Features

Installation:

  1. Mounting Surface: Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy.
  2. Positioning: Ideally, the floodlight should be fixed with the wall bracket (Fig. 1). Mark and drill positions for the fixing bracket, then secure it to the wall with suitable screws (not included) (Fig. 2).
  3. Wiring: Unscrew the junction box cover, remove the diffuser and rubber seal. Insert the mains cable (H05RN-F3G 1.0mm², not included) into the junction box through the plastic stud and rubber gasket, ensuring the plastic stud is tightly secured. Connect the mains wires (Fig. 3). Replace the junction cover, taking care not to loosen the rubber gasket.
  4. Bulb Installation: Undo screw(s) on the front glass cover and hinge. Insert the bulb into the spring-loaded holders. Avoid touching the bulb with bare hands. Close the glass cover and secure the screws, ensuring all seals and grommets are secure (Fig. 4).
  5. Final Mounting: Mount the unit to the wall fixing bracket by replacing the two bolts. Adjust the floodlight to the desired position and secure the last two bolts.

Operating Instructions for Motion Sensor:

  • Detection Area Adjustment: The PIR sensor's scanning field can be adjusted by rotating the swivel joint (Fig. 6). The detection area can also be adjusted by rotating the PIR sensor and floodlight to the desired position after loosening the cope stud (Fig. 6).
  • Time Control: The duration of light activation can be set from 10 seconds to 4 minutes by adjusting the TIME control (Fig. 6).
  • LUX Control: The LUX level (brightness from daylight to night) can be adjusted using the LUX control (Fig. 6). The sun and moon symbols indicate whether the PIR sensor will operate during daylight or night hours.
  • SENSE Control: This control increases (+) or decreases (-) the sensitivity of the PIR sensor.

Walk-Test:

To ensure the sensors are working and to determine the detection area:

  1. Set the LUX control to the day-time (sun symbol) position.
  2. Set the TIME control to minimum (-).
  3. Walk through the detection area. The floodlight should turn on for the pre-set period of time when a valid trigger signal (movement of a person) is received.

Important Safeguards:

  • Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with SANS 10142. A Certificate of Compliance must be updated upon completion.
  • Ensure the voltage indicated on the rating label matches the mains voltage.
  • Turn off power when changing the lamp.
  • Do not tamper with the luminaire (e.g., using silicon sealers or incorrect cabling) as this will invalidate the warranty.
  • Replace damaged protection glass immediately.
  • Always ensure the power cord connection is safe and reliable.
  • Always replace the lamp with one of an identical rating.
  • Do not place the luminaire near combustible materials or surfaces.
  • Keep small parts away from children (choking hazard).
  • Do not insert fingers or any body part into electrical contacts while connected to the electricity supply.
  • Never attempt to remove the lens cover, as this will damage the PIR sensor and void warranties.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Always ensure the power supply is turned off before cleaning.
  • Do not immerse the luminaire in water.
  • Do not use abrasive products, solvents, or detergents.
  • Ensure the fitting does not come into contact with corrosive chemicals.
  • For coastal areas, clean the luminaire fortnightly.

Environmental Protection:

Waste electrical & electronic equipment regulations require that products with the specified marking must not be disposed of with household or commercial waste. To prevent harm to the environment or human health from uncontrolled waste disposal, separate such products from other waste types and recycle them responsibly at local facilities.
