Overview

The OmniCure LED Light Meter System is a device designed for accurate measurement of UV power and irradiance in various curing applications. It is used with Excelitas LX series UV LED spot curing systems or other commercially available UV LED spot curing systems. The system includes an LED Light Meter (models LM2011, LM2011-xx) and an LED Light Sensor with a removable aperture (models LS100, LS200).

Function Description:

The primary function of the LED Light Meter System is to provide accurate absolute power/irradiance measurements for various lens options and wavelengths of Excelitas LX series UV LED spot curing systems. It allows users to monitor and verify the output of their UV LED curing equipment, ensuring consistent and reliable curing processes. The device is capable of measuring both power (in mW) and irradiance (in mW/cm² or W/cm²), depending on the installed aperture and selected mode.

    • CE Marking: Council Directive 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive), 2014/30/EU (EMC Directive), 2012/19/EU (WEEE Directive), 2011/65/EU as amended by (EU) 2015/863 (RoHS).
    • FCC Class B Digital Device or Peripheral.
    • RoHS Hazardous Substances: The product is in compliance with China RoHS requirements, with Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls, and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers all below the limit requirement of GB/T 26572, except for printed circuit board assemblies where Lead is above the limit requirement but in at least one of the homogeneous materials.

Usage Features:

  • Power ON/OFF: Pressing the 'ON/OFF' button switches the unit on, displaying full screen information for 5 seconds before showing the current wavelength. Holding 'ON/OFF' for 4 seconds turns the power off. The meter has an auto-off feature after 5 minutes of inactivity, retaining the last mode and wavelength settings.
  • Peak Hold: The 'Peak Hold' button allows the meter to latch onto the peak value measured, refreshing the display only when a higher value is detected. Pressing the button once activates 'Peak Hold' mode (indicated by "peak" over "hold"), and pressing it again reverts to the normal default mode.
  • Wavelength Selection: The 'Wavelength' button displays the current set wavelength. Repeated presses cycle through the 4 preset wavelengths. The number of selectable wavelengths can be increased or decreased using the GUI control panel.
  • Power/Irradiance Toggle: A dedicated button toggles between Power and Irradiance modes. Power mode is used when the sensor aperture is removed, and Irradiance mode is used when the aperture is installed.
  • LED Light Sensor Connection: The LED Light Sensor connects to the meter via a DIN multi-pin connection. If the sensor is not connected, the display will show "LS".
  • USB Connection: A USB port allows connection to a computer to access the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
  • Removable Aperture: The sensor features a removable threaded aperture, allowing users to choose between Power or Irradiance measurements. It should be twisted counter-clockwise to remove and clockwise to install, hand-tightened only. Using mechanical tooling is not recommended.
  • GUI Control Panel: The GUI allows users to customize the wavelengths accessible by the radiometer. By default, the radiometer has 4 wavelengths, which can be increased to 5. Allowable wavelength values are between 320nm and 750nm. Users can enter '0' if they wish to use fewer than 5 wavelengths.
  • Alignment Tool/Fixture: For accurate measurements, an XY alignment tool/fixture is recommended to position the LED Head over the detection window/aperture to achieve maximum Power/Irradiance. If not using a tool, the LED Head should be manually moved until maximum Power/Irradiance is achieved.

Maintenance Features:

  • Calibration: The LED Light Meter system should be calibrated every 12 months to ensure valid measurements. Calibration is traceable to NRC, and a certificate is included with each cycle. Irradiance calibration is only valid with the correct aperture supplied. Calibration must be performed by a certified Excelitas service center.
  • Battery Replacement: The LED Light Meter is supplied with two lithium batteries. These batteries are non-rechargeable. To replace them, remove the protective rubber boot, unscrew two Philips screws, open the battery cover, remove and discard old batteries, and insert new batteries (refer to +/- placement decal inside the battery cavity). Used batteries should not be discarded but returned to an authorized Excelitas Technologies service center for disposal/recycling. Battery terminals must be taped with non-conductive material prior to return.
  • Cleaning: The exterior of the Light Meter should be cleaned with a slightly dampened cloth and a simple water/detergent solution only. The detection window surface should not be touched, as skin oils and scratches can shorten its operational life.
  • Warranty: Excelitas Technologies provides a one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of purchase. Claims require sending the equipment, postage paid, with a description of the fault, to an Excelitas Technologies Service Centre after obtaining a Return Authorization (RA) Number. Units received with defects within 30 days of receipt will be repaired or replaced free of charge for up to 2 years. The warranty is voided by damage from wear and tear, careless handling, neglect, use of force, or interventions/repairs not carried out by an authorized Excelitas Technologies Service Center.
  • No User Serviceable Parts: There are no user-serviceable parts within the main LED Light Meter enclosure. Opening the enclosure will void the warranty.
  • Returning Equipment for Service: Original packaging should be retained for future use when sending equipment for servicing or calibration. A description of the problem and troubleshooting steps should be included. An RA number must be obtained from an Excelitas Technologies Service Centre (or online) before returning the unit. Shipping instructions provided by the service technician should be followed.

Safety Precautions:

  • Eye and Skin Protection: When using LED Heads, do not stare directly at the LED Aperture(s) as this can cause eye injury. Always use protective eyewear provided with the device and protect exposed skin with appropriate clothing or shielding.
  • UV Radiation Exposure: To prevent accidental exposure to hazardous optical/UV radiation, ensure LED Heads are properly secured in a mounting fixture. Hand-held use is not recommended.
  • Hot Surface: LED Heads can reach elevated operating temperatures when energized. Avoid contact. LED Heads are designed to be mounted in a suitable fixture with clamp-type heat sink assemblies for thermal management. Allow a cool-down period of approximately 5 minutes after power removal before handling.
  • Lithium Battery Hazards: Lithium batteries present a potential fire, explosion, or severe burn hazard. Do NOT attempt to recharge, disassemble, incinerate, short circuit, or expose batteries to temperatures above 100°C or water.
  • WEEE Directive: The product is marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, indicating it should not be disposed of with municipal waste but collected separately for recycling.
