THE ZLD MULTIZONE LINE DRIVER OPERATES YOUR ENTIRE STEREO FROM ONE LOCATION,
AND IS BUILT WITH THE REAL WORLD IN MIND. ZLD HANDLES ALL THREE AUDIO ZONES --
TOWER / CABIN / SUBWOOFER. IT’S COMPACT, THOUGHT OUT DESIGN MOUNTS ANYWHERE
AND BOASTS EASY TO USE CONTROLS FOR ADDED FUNCTIONALITY AND IS PACKED WITH THE
FEATURES YOU NEED.
Setting up your stereo right the rst time will save you trouble in the future. The goal to adjusting the stereo gains is
to provide each amplier adequate uncompressed signal. Special care should be taken to make sure that your not
over driving any speaker into distortion. Read all of these instructions rst, before attempting any installation.
INITIAL SETUP ON ZLD CONTROLLER
Source Unit Volume Level (cd player): Set your head unit to 3/4 volume. For most head units this is the cleanest
volume setting to maximize signal to noise ratio and dynamic range. Be sure all EQ is set to at and Loudness is
turned o.
Aux Source (Ipods etc): Set the volume to 3/4 and defeat all EQ or Bass boost.
ZLD Control Knob Settings: Set the volume control all the way to minimum to start the set up procedure. The
Zone control knob should be set to the 12 o’clock position so there is an even blend between the tower and cabin
zones. Set all the EQ setting to the 12 o’clock position to defeat any cut or boost.
Ampliers: Set the gain on the amplier to its lowest setting.
ADJUSTING THE ZONES - CABIN / TOWER / SUB
1) Plug in just the RCAs for the in boat speakers amp. Set the high pass crossover at ~110HZ. Turn the radio
level up to the max safe level as described above. Turn the ZLD up to about 3⁄4 of max volume.
2) Slowly turn the gain up until you hear the speakers begin to distort, breakup, or generally sound over driving.
Now begin to back o the gain from that point a small amount until you hear the speakers play as loud as
they can with no distortion. This adjustment may be very minor in terms of eecting the speaker sound.
3) Power the system down. Unplug the amplier RCAs. Repeat steps 1/2/3 for Tower zone.
4) Unplug the RCAs from the subwoofer amplier. Set the low pass crossover on the amp for the subwoofer at
80HZ (or as determined by your individual subwoofer). Turn the ZLD “bass level” to maximum (clockwise).
5) Slowly turn the gain up until you hear the subwoofer begin to distort. Now begin to back o the gain
from that point a small amount until you hear the subwoofer play as loud as it can with no distortion. This
adjustment may be very minor in terms of eecting the woofer sound.
FINAL CHECK
Turn the volume control down at the ZLD, power the entire system down and plug in all RCAs cables from all
ampliers. Power the system up and do a nal check to ensure each zone (cabin/tower/subwoofer) is playing.
As you vary the volume control up and down, you should notice the zones blend well together. If they don’t, you
probably need to do some more ne tuning of crossover points.
If you do need to make adjustments, you may do so by adjusting the high pass and low pass crossovers located
on each amplier to tailor the sound. These adjustments may have a pronounced eect on the overall volume
but will require lowering the gain settings at the individual ampliers. Again, the goal is to have each zone blend
together by using the lowest amount of amplier gain. Over gaining a stereo creates a dangerous condition for the
speakers.... FOR REAL!
