Warning
Working at height and all forms of activity conducted at
height are dangerous and can lead to serious injury or
death.
Improper use of equipment can result in serious injury or
death. It is the responsibility of the user to obtain proper
training in rope techniques and safety prior to any activity
at height and use of such equipment.
This manual is not a do-it-yourself manual, and the
information presented can-not replace proper training and
experience. It is a person's obligation to get adequate
training in appropriate techniques and safety practises.
We have done everything possible to ensure that the
information provided in this manual is accurate at the time
of publication. However, we do not guarantee that this
information will remain up to date, as many products and
techniques change over time.
If you have doubts or difficulty understanding
anything in this manual, please contact us.
Webbing Footloops and ladders
Have been designed for stepping and climbing up. However it is
not a (PPE) per-sonal protective equipment. Use only as
instructed, with a secondary back-up sys-tem and with compati-
ble items of equipment. Check that the safe function of any one
component within a system will not interfere with safe function
of these Foot-loops or Ladders. Miss use can cause problems,
weakness, serious injury or death. Neatness is strength. The
Footloop needs to be clipped onto a hand ascender with a rated
carabineer or quick link. The Ladder needs to be secured with a
rated carabineer onto a solid anchor point or when using the
ladder on a rope secure it with a rope grab. Always keep an eye
out for potential falls as these products are not designed to
withstand high impact forces.
Do not fall in these products!
Safety
Do not alter the product in any way. Any product subjected to a
minor fall should be examined and discarded if there is any sign
of defect or any doubts about safety.
Inspection
Before each use visually inspect to ensure the product is in
serviceable condition and operates correctly. An examination
should be carried out at least every 12 month by a competent
person. These inspections should be recorded paying particular
attention to areas of potentially high wear and sewn joints. See
our info page on PPE Inspection.
When carrying out an inspection pay attention to the next
items (if applicable):
Check the label / marking (visible, age)
Check rope (cuts, burns, wear, chemical marks, dents,
hernias, other damage)
Check stitching (cut, worn, coloured or disordered threads)
Check attachment points (deformation, cracks, wear,
corrosion, marks)
Check O-ring and connectors (deformation, cracks, wear,
corrosion, marks)
Check compatibility of connector
Check condition of protective components
It is essential for safety that equipment is withdrawn from use
immediately should:
Any doubt arise about its condition for safe use or;
Any product subjected to a major fall .

Overview

This document describes the EYOLF Trap Footloop & Ladder, a device designed for stepping and climbing.

Function Description

The EYOLF Trap Footloop & Ladder is intended for use in ascending and climbing activities. It serves as a means for users to step and climb upwards. It is crucial to understand that this product is not Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It must always be used as instructed, with a secondary back-up system, and in conjunction with compatible items of equipment. The design emphasizes that the safe function of any component within a system should not interfere with the safe function of these footloops or ladders. Misuse can lead to problems, weakness, serious injury, or death. The product's design philosophy, "Neatness is strength," underscores the importance of proper setup and use.

Specifically, the Footloop is designed to be clipped onto a hand ascender using a rated carabineer or quick link. The Ladder is intended to be secured with a rated carabineer onto a solid anchor point. When using the ladder on a rope, it must be secured with a rope grab. Users are advised to constantly monitor for potential falls, as these products are not designed to withstand high impact forces. A critical safety instruction is "Do not fall in these products!"

Important Technical Specifications

The manual does not provide specific numerical technical specifications such as material composition, weight limits, or dimensions. However, it outlines several important operational and safety parameters:

  • Working Temperature Range: The product can be used in environments with working temperatures from -30 degrees Celsius up to 60 degrees Celsius.
  • pH Range for Cleaning Detergent: If soiled, the product should be washed with a soft detergent within a pH range of 5.5 to 8.5.
  • Warranty Period: Equipment is warranted against factory defects in workmanship and materials for a period of 3 years from the date of installation or use by the owner, provided this period does not exceed 3 years from the date of shipment.
  • Recommended Lifespan: The product should not be used more than 15 years after the date of manufacture or 10 years after its first use, whichever comes first. This assumes correct storage. The working life can vary from five years to a single use in extreme circumstances (e.g., highly chemical environments, serious fall). UV light, including sunlight, will significantly reduce the working life.

Usage Features

  • Safety First: The primary usage instruction is to maintain "two points of contact at all times" when using the device.
  • Training Requirement: This manual is not a do-it-yourself guide. Users are explicitly warned that working at height is dangerous and can lead to serious injury or death. Improper use can also result in serious injury or death. It is the user's responsibility to obtain proper training in rope techniques and safety practices before any activity at height and use of such equipment. The information presented cannot replace proper training and experience.
  • No Alterations: Users must not alter the product in any way.
  • Post-Fall Protocol: Any product subjected to a minor fall must be examined and discarded if there is any sign of defect or any doubts about safety.
  • Inspection:
    • Before Each Use: Visually inspect the product to ensure it is in serviceable condition and operates correctly.
    • Periodic Inspection: A thorough examination should be carried out at least every 12 months by a competent person. These inspections must be recorded, with particular attention paid to areas of potentially high wear and sewn joints.
    • Inspection Items (if applicable):
      • Check the label/marking (visibility, age).
      • Check rope for cuts, burns, wear, chemical marks, dents, hernias, or other damage.
      • Check stitching for cuts, wear, colored or disordered threads.
      • Check attachment points for deformation, cracks, wear, corrosion, or marks.
      • Check O-ring and connectors for deformation, cracks, wear, corrosion, or marks.
      • Check compatibility of the connector.
      • Check the condition of protective components.
    • Withdrawal from Use: Equipment must be immediately withdrawn from use if any doubt arises about its condition for safe use or if it has been subjected to a major fall.
  • Extreme Environment Use: Using PPE in extreme environments is dangerous. Appropriate testing is required before using the products in conditions such as extreme cold/high temperatures (-30°C to 60°C), chemicals, dust, sand, and other foreign materials. Electrical conductivity is a serious concern; harnesses with metal components should not be used near high power lines or switch gear. When using Fossil lanyards in wet conditions, users should be aware that wet rope products have a reduced impact capacity, requiring even greater caution.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Always keep the product clean and dry.
    • Remove excess moisture with a clean, dry cloth, then allow to dry naturally in a warm room away from direct heat.
    • Rinse in clean cold water. If still soiled, wash in clean warm water (max. 40°C) with a soft detergent (pH range 5.5-8.5).
    • Rinse properly in clean cold water.
    • To disinfect, use a solution of water with alcohol.
    • Do not use bleach!
  • Lubrication:
    • If lubrication is needed, a silicon-based spray can be used.
    • Avoid excessively spraying lubricant over the buckle or gate.
    • Wipe off any excess and protect any webbing or rope from being sprayed.
  • Transportation:
    • Use a container or bag that allows the product to breathe and protects the gear.
  • Storage:
    • After cleaning, store unpacked in a cool, dry, and dark place away from direct sunlight. UV light causes damage to webbing over time.
    • Avoid excessive heat sources, sharp edges, vibration, or other potential causes of damage.
    • Do not store when wet or in a damp area (>70% humidity).
    • For a long shelf life, it is advisable to store the product in a moisture-proof package, such as a polyethylene bag.
