SMOKE ALARM PLACEMENT
Minimum coverage is one unit for every floor, in every sleeping area, or in every
bedroom. For additional coverage, Family Shield recommends you install units in all
rooms, halls, and storage areas where temperatures normally remain between -10˚C
and 40˚C.
Do not mount the smoke alarm in:
a) A room in which the temperature can reach below -10˚C and above 40˚C
b) Damp spaces and areas with high humidity
c) Directly in front of doors or windows
d) Near a ventilator or radiator
e) Near appliances or areas where normal combustion regularly occurs
(kitchens, near furnaces, hot water heaters)
f) Extremely dusty, dirty, or insect-infested areas where loose particles
interfere with smoke alarm operation
g) Distances under 50 cm from fluorescent lights or low-energy bulbs
It is not recommended for this product to be installed in high humidity, dusty or high
temperature environments such as the kitchen or bathroom.

Function Description

Usage Features

• Alarm Memory: After an alarm, the green LED flashes 3 times every 43 seconds for up to 24 hours. Pressing the TEST/HUSH button after an alarm will cause the detector to hint by a special alarm mode. Releasing the button disables alarm memory.
• End of Useful Life Warning: After 10 years of operation, the alarm will sound 3 times every 43 seconds.
• Low Voltage Status: Red LED flashes once and a low battery beep sounds every 43 seconds.
• Installation: The device is installed by rotating the base anticlockwise to remove it, switching the battery pin from OFF to ON, fixing the base plate to the ceiling with screws, and then fastening the smoke alarm to the base by turning it clockwise.
• Testing: The smoke alarm can be tested by firmly pushing the TEST/HUSH button. A loud beep should sound, stopping when the button is released.
• Placement Recommendations: Minimum coverage is one unit per floor, in every sleeping area, or every bedroom. For additional coverage, units should be installed in all rooms, halls, and storage areas where temperatures remain between -10°C and 40°C.

Maintenance Features

• Regular Testing: The smoke alarm should be tested regularly using the TEST/HUSH button.
• Cleaning: The smoke alarm should be cleaned at least once a month to remove dust, dirt, or debris. This involves vacuuming all sides and the cover of the smoke alarm with a soft brush or wand attachment, ensuring all vents are free of debris. A damp cloth can be used to clean the cover if necessary.
• Important Cleaning Note: The cover should NOT be removed to clean inside the smoke alarm, as this will void the warranty.
• Battery: The built-in 10-year lithium battery is not replaceable.
• Troubleshooting: A troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues such as the alarm not sounding when tested (check if battery pin is ON), circuit failure, or low battery (contact retailer).
• Alarm Response: If the alarm sounds and it is not being tested, it indicates smoke detection, requiring immediate attention. Do not switch off the battery to quiet an unwanted alarm; instead, fan the air or open a window to remove smoke or dust.
