The Ferrex Reciprocating Saw FS 850-N is a corded power tool designed for sawing in wood, metal, and plastics. It is intended for household use and not for commercial applications or permanent installation. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the machine.
Function Description:
The reciprocating saw operates by moving a saw blade back and forth at a high speed, allowing it to cut through various materials. It features an adjustable saw shoe (3) that enables the user to select the optimal cutting depth and position the saw blade's teeth for effective operation. The saw shoe can be slid lengthwise to the required position by pressing down the locking lever (11). The angle of the saw shoe can also be modified to adapt to different materials or provide a stable rest. The sawing position itself can be set in three different angles (0°, +/-90°) by pulling back the lockable trigger (6) and turning the handle (5). An LED working light (4) illuminates the work area when the plug is inserted, enhancing visibility and safety during operation. The machine is equipped with an On/Off switch (10) and a stop button for continuous operation (7). An electronic stroke rate control and pre-selection function allows the user to adjust the maximum stroke rate (500-2800 rpm) using a setting wheel (9) to match the material being cut. The stroke rate can be increased by pressing the On/Off switch harder.

Usage Features:
- Saw Blade Installation: The saw blade holder (2) features a lock (2a) for quick and secure saw blade changes. To insert a new blade, turn the lock anticlockwise, insert the blade until it stops, and then release the lock. The saw blade holder is compatible with conventional accessories having a mounting shaft for reciprocating saws.
- Stroke Rate Control: The setting wheel (9) allows for pre-selection of the maximum stroke rate, which can then be fine-tuned by the pressure applied to the On/Off switch (10). This feature helps optimize cutting performance for different materials.
- Continuous Operation: For extended use, the machine can be set to continuous operation by pushing the On/Off switch (10) fully, pressing the stop button (7), and then releasing the On/Off switch. To switch off continuous operation, simply press the On/Off switch again.
- Safety Precautions: Always ensure the saw shoe (3) rests against the workpiece during operation. The machine should be switched on before it is introduced to the workpiece. When sawing metal, especially steel, regular cooling breaks are recommended, or the blade should be brushed with cutting oil to increase durability and edge retention.
- Workpiece Stability: It is crucial to use clamps or another practical method to secure and support the workpiece on a stable platform to prevent loss of control and potential injury.
- Dust and Fiber Materials: Avoid machining materials containing asbestos. When working with other fibrous materials, use dust protection masks and extraction systems.
- Outdoor Use: If used outdoors, the machine must be connected via a residual current circuit breaker, and an extension cord suitable for outdoor use should be employed.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Before any cleaning or maintenance, the machine must be turned off, disconnected from the power supply, and allowed to cool down. Keep the machine and air vents clean to ensure safe and proper operation. Regularly check for dust or foreign objects in the motor and switch openings, using a soft brush for removal. Wear safety goggles during cleaning. The machine casing can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and a mild cleaning product (avoid alcohol, petrol, or other harsh cleaners). Solvents should never be used on plastic parts.
- Lubrication: All moving parts should be lubricated regularly.
- Inspection: Before and after each use, inspect the machine and accessories (e.g., insertion tools) for wear and damage. Replace worn or damaged parts as necessary, following the instructions. Regularly check all fastenings, as they may loosen due to vibration.
- Cable Damage: If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, their customer service department, or a similarly qualified person to prevent risks.
- Storage: Store the machine and its accessories in a dry, frost-free place, out of reach of children, ideally between 10-30 °C. It is recommended to store the machine in its original packaging or covered with a cloth to protect it from dust.
- Repairs: There are no user-serviceable parts inside the machine. All repairs should be carried out by a qualified specialist. Opening the machine will invalidate the warranty. The manufacturer's warranty is void if non-original parts are used or repairs are not carried out by authorized personnel.
