Mower Deck Drive Belt Replacement S/N:
2016528080 & Above
To avoid damaging belts, DO NOT PRY
BELTS OVER PULLEYS.
1. Park the unit on a smooth, level surface such as
a concrete floor. Disengage the PTO, engage the
parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the
ignition key.
2. Lower the mower deck to its lowest cutting position
and remove the mower deck guards and floor pan
to gain access to the mower deck drive belt (A,
Figure 51).
WARNING
Use extreme caution when rotating the idler
pulley with the wrench or breaker bar, due to
the increased tension in the spring as the idler
pulley is being rotated. Injury may result if the
wrench is prematurely released while the spring
is under tension.
4. Using a 1/2” breaker bar, place the square end in
the opening in the idler arm (B) and carefully rotate
the idler arm clockwise to relieve the tension
exerted on the belt from the idler arm.
5. Slide the drive belt over the edge of the rear
stationary idler pulley (C) and carefully release the
tension on the breaker bar.
6. Remove the old belt and replace with a new one.
7. Install the drive belt on the gearbox pulley and the
spindle pulleys (D) making sure that the V-side of
the belt runs in the grooves of the spindle pulleys
and gearbox pulley. Install the belt on the front
stationary idler pulleys (E) and the adjustable idler
pulley (F) making sure that the back side of the
belt contacts the flat face of the pulleys.
8. Carefully rotate the breaker bar clockwise and
install the belt on the rear stationary idler pulley.
9. Carefully release the tension on the breaker bar.

Length
Check the Mower Belt Tensioner Spring Length
1. Set the mower deck to the 3-1/2” (8.9 cm) cutting
position.
2. Measure the coil length (A, Figure 52) of the
mower belt tensioner spring (B). The measurement
should equal 12” (30.5 cm). If not, adjust the
mower belt spring length.
Adjusting the Mower Belt Spring Length
1. Loosen the jam nut (C, Figure 52) on the anchor
eyebolt (D).
2. Turn the adjustment nut (E) until the measurement
12” (30.5 cm) is achieved.
3. Retighten the jam nut.
4. Re-install the mower deck guards and floor pan.
5. Run the mower under no-load condition for about
five (5) minutes to break in the new belt.
