The EP7 is a battery-powered electronic position indicator designed for measuring linear or angular movements. It is a compact and easy-to-install device suitable for various industrial applications such as packaging, woodworking, aluminum, and coil industries.
Function Description:
The EP7 integrates a position sensor and a display unit within the same case. It provides a digital readout of the measured position, with a 5-digit display (plus a sign) ranging from -99999 to +99999. The 7.5mm-high digits ensure excellent readability, even from a distance. The device offers several programmable functions via its three frontal buttons:
- Reset/Preset: Allows setting the displayed value to zero or a predefined value.
- Absolute/Relative Display: Toggles between absolute and relative measurement modes. In relative mode, the display temporarily sets to zero to measure motion relative to a new reference point, indicated by a "REL" icon. Switching back displays the absolute value, indicated by an "ABS" icon.
- mm/inch Conversion: Converts measurements between millimeters and inches, indicated by an "INCH" icon. This function is not available if the number of decimal places (
ndEC) is set to 4.
- Origin Change: Provides three distinct origins (0, 1, 2) for correcting the displayed value, useful for tool changes.
- Offset Function: Compensates for tool wear or other adjustments by adding or subtracting a specified value from the displayed measurement.
All activated functions are indicated by symbols on the display. The counting direction can be set to increase (clockwise rotation) or decrease (counter-clockwise rotation) the displayed value.

Usage Features:
- Programming: Accessing programming mode involves holding down the
ENTER/RESET button until "PASS" appears, then entering a 3-digit password (273). Parameters such as UI S (value per rotation), ndEC (number of decimal places), EASEI (button activation mode), and dir (counting direction) can be configured.
- Button Activation Modes (
EASEI): The EASEI parameter allows customizing the functions of the ENTER/RESET, ▲, and ▼ buttons. Options include:
- Not active
- mm/inch conversion
- ABS/REL measurement
- Reset
- Preset (normal or fast)
- Change of origin (0, 1, 2)
- Offset (normal or fast)
- Delayed reset/preset (activated after 3 seconds of holding the button)
- Setting Values: To modify a parameter, press
ENTER/RESET twice, then use ▲ and ▼ to set the desired value. Negative numbers can be set by pressing ▼ until the leftmost digit blinks, then pressing ▼ again to display the minus sign.
- Error Message: The "ouEr" message indicates that the current displayed value has exceeded the maximum allowable range (-99999 to 99999).
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The instrument requires minimal maintenance. It should only be cleaned with a soft cloth slightly damped with ethyl alcohol or water. Hydrocarbon solvents (petrol, thinners, etc.) should not be used as they may affect the instrument's proper functioning.
- Repairs: All repairs must be carried out exclusively at the FIAMA technical assistance center.
- Calibration: It is advisable to calibrate the instrument periodically, once every working year, following the procedure outlined in the manual.
- Battery Replacement: The EP7 is powered by a single 1/2AA 3.6V lithium battery with a typical 4-year lifespan. A low battery icon appears on the display when replacement is needed. To replace the battery, remove the front cover with a flat screwdriver, pull out the old battery, and insert a new one, ensuring correct polarity (positive pole facing the
ENTER/RESET button). The instrument is protected against incorrect polarity. The device retains the displayed value during battery replacement if the shaft is not moved. If the shaft moves while the instrument is off, the adjustment process must be repeated.
- Storage: Store the instrument in its original packing, avoiding excessive humidity, bad weather exposure (open areas), and direct contact with the ground.
The EP7 is designed with self-extinguishing and shock-proof plastic material for its case, ensuring durability and protection of internal electronic parts. The manufacturer emphasizes the importance of adhering to the manual's instructions for safe installation, maintenance, and operation to prevent risks to health and safety, and economic damage. The manufacturer declines responsibility for use contrary to national safety laws, incorrect installation, defective power supply, modifications, or operations by untrained staff.
