WATER DISPENSING
Press the “Start button
The display will read “SELECT KEY> ENTER AMOUNT___.
Type in the desired water volume in ml, then press “ENTER.”
Place a graduated cylinder under the dispensing tip (be sure the graduate you are
using is of sucient volume to hold the amount of water to be dispensed).
Press “DISPENSE” to begin water ow
For volumes higher than 30ml, the unit will dispense water in two equal
parts. Always remember to dispense the second half of the water.
Check the graduated cylinder to ensure the desired amount of water was
dispensed.
If the desired amount of water is not dispensed, your dispenser may need to
be calibrated or the battery may need to be changed. See the “Calibration
and “Power Supply sections below for instructions on how to check
calibration or battery life.
Water volumes of 13ml or lower may appear to under or over dispense, even if
your dispenser is properly calibrated. This is normal and does not necessarily
mean your dispenser is out of calibration or defective.
If the machine is under dispensing at a low volume, use the unit to
add water as needed.
If the unit is over dispensing at a low volume, pour out the amount
that was over dispensed.
Pour water from graduate into medicine bottle to complete the process.
For volumes of water higher than 30ml, dispense the water into the
medication bottle in two equal parts to allow for mixing.
For volumes of water less than or equal to 30ml, dispense the entire amount
into the medication bottle and mix.

Overview

The Fillmaster 3400 & 3600 are advanced dispensing systems designed for the precise and rapid reconstitution of medications using water. These devices prioritize accuracy and efficiency in pharmaceutical settings, ensuring that medications are prepared correctly and consistently.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Fillmaster 3400 & 3600 is to dispense specific volumes of water for the reconstitution of various medications. Users can input the desired water volume in milliliters (ml) via a keypad, and the system will accurately dispense that amount. This capability is crucial for pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities where precise medication preparation is essential for patient safety and therapeutic efficacy. The system is designed to handle a range of volumes, from small amounts suitable for single-dose preparations to larger volumes for multi-dose or bulk compounding.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific technical specifications like dimensions, weight, and power consumption are not explicitly detailed in the provided manual, several operational specifications are highlighted:

  • Volume Input: Users can input desired water volumes in milliliters.
  • Dispensing Accuracy: The system is designed for accurate dispensing. However, it notes that volumes of 13ml or lower may appear to under or over dispense even when properly calibrated, which is considered normal. For volumes higher than 30ml, the unit dispenses water in two equal parts, requiring the user to ensure both parts are collected.
  • Power Source: The dispenser is powered by an "iPOWER PAK," a replaceable battery pack located under a cover at the top of the dispenser.
  • Low Power Warning: The iPOWER PAK provides a low power warning, giving approximately a one-month window for replacement.
  • Calibration Check: The calibration can be checked by dispensing a standard 50ml volume and verifying the output with a 100ml graduated cylinder.
  • User Interface: The device features a keypad for inputting volumes and initiating dispensing, along with a display that shows prompts like "SELECT KEY> ENTER AMOUNT" and "DISPENSE."

Usage Features:

The Fillmaster 3400 & 3600 are designed for straightforward and intuitive operation:

  • Start Button: Dispensing begins by pressing the "Start" button.
  • Volume Input: Users are prompted to "SELECT KEY> ENTER AMOUNT" and then type in the desired water volume in ml, followed by pressing "ENTER."
  • Placement of Graduated Cylinder: Before dispensing, a graduated cylinder of sufficient volume must be placed under the dispensing tip.
  • Dispense Button: Water flow is initiated by pressing the "DISPENSE" button.
  • Two-Part Dispensing for Larger Volumes: For volumes exceeding 30ml, the system dispenses water in two equal parts. Users must remember to collect both halves to ensure the full desired amount is obtained. This feature might be related to flow rate control or to prevent splashing/overflow with larger volumes.
  • Verification of Dispensed Volume: Users are instructed to check the graduated cylinder to confirm the correct amount of water was dispensed.
  • Handling Under/Over Dispensing (Low Volumes): For low volumes (13ml or less) where slight discrepancies might occur, users are advised to add water as needed if under-dispensing, or pour out excess if over-dispensing. This acknowledges the inherent challenges of precise measurement at very small scales.
  • Medication Bottle Transfer: After dispensing, the water is poured from the graduate into the medicine bottle. For volumes over 30ml, the two-part dispensing into the medication bottle also facilitates mixing. For volumes 30ml or less, the entire amount is dispensed into the bottle and mixed.

Maintenance Features:

Routine maintenance is crucial for the continued accuracy and longevity of the Fillmaster 3400 & 3600. The manual outlines both "As Needed" and "Monthly" maintenance tasks:

As Needed Maintenance:

  • Dispensing Tip Cleaning: If debris is noticed on the removable dispensing tip, it should be removed and cleaned with warm, soapy water at a sink.
  • Dispensing Chamber Cleaning: If debris is present in the dispensing chamber, it should be wiped with a paper towel soaked in warm water. For hardened debris, a standard 3% hydrogen peroxide spray can be used, followed by wiping clean with a paper towel. Disposable gloves are recommended when using hydrogen peroxide.

Monthly Maintenance:

  • Remove Dispensing Tip: The first step in monthly maintenance is to remove the dispensing tip.
  • Clean Nozzle with Alcohol Wipe: The nozzle should be cleaned using an alcohol wipe.
  • Immerse Foam Applicator: A foam applicator should be immersed in isopropyl alcohol.
  • Clean Nozzle Thoroughly: The nozzle is then cleaned with the foam applicator, pushing the swab as far up as it will go.
  • Flush Nozzle: After cleaning, 250ml of water should be dispensed to flush the nozzle, ensuring any remaining cleaning agents or debris are removed.
  • Install New Dispensing Tip: Finally, a new dispensing tip should be installed.

Power Supply Management:

  • iPOWER PAK: The device uses an iPOWER PAK battery pack.
  • Low Power Warning: A low power warning will be displayed when the battery life is low, providing approximately one month to replace the iPOWER PAK. Users are instructed to contact Fillmaster for a new battery.
  • Ordering Replacements: Replacement iPOWER PAK units can be ordered by calling Fillmaster at 888-284-7873.
  • Checking Battery Life: The battery life can be checked by pressing the "Program" button three times and selecting option "2" for "Power Supply," which displays a gas gauge style power level on the screen.

Calibration:

  • Checking Calibration: To check calibration, the user presses "START," types "50ml," presses "ENTER," places a 100ml graduate, and presses "DISPENSE."
  • Verification: If exactly 50ml is dispensed, the unit is properly calibrated. If the dispensed amount is less or more than 50ml, calibration is required. The manual does not detail the calibration procedure itself, only how to check it, implying that calibration might require service or a more advanced user function not covered in this basic guide.

In summary, the Fillmaster 3400 & 3600 are essential tools for accurate medication reconstitution, emphasizing ease of use, clear operational steps, and a structured maintenance routine to ensure consistent performance and reliability in healthcare environments.
