Overview

This document describes the Fimco 3PT-45-12V-4 (5303244) sprayer, a 45-gallon, 12-volt, bolt-together, 3-point sprayer with a 4-nozzle boom, designed for various spraying applications.

Function Description:

The Fimco 3PT-45-12V-4 sprayer is designed to apply liquids, such as chemicals or water, over a designated area. It operates by drawing solution from its tank through a strainer to a 12-volt diaphragm pump. The pump then forces the solution under pressure to either a handgun or the boom nozzles for application. The sprayer is equipped with a pressure switch that automatically shuts off the pump when all discharges are closed, preventing continuous operation and potential damage. The system allows for pressure adjustment by opening a bypass valve, which recirculates solution back into the tank, enabling users to achieve desired spray patterns and pressures. It is suitable for both boom broadcasting and spot spraying with the handgun.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: 3PT-45-12V-4 (5303244)
  • Tank Capacity: 45 Gallons, made of corrosion-resistant polyethylene.
  • Pump: 12 Volt Diaphragm Pump, 2.4 GPM, 60 PSI. The replacement pump model is 5151087, which includes 1/2" MNPT Port Kit Fitting (#5168832), 1/2" Hose Barb Port Kit Fitting (#5168833), and 3/8" Hose Barb Port Kit Fitting (#5168836).
  • Boom Assembly: 4-Nozzle Boom Assembly (5302290) with 120" spray coverage, using 3/8" hose, 1" square tubing, and AIXR11002VP tips. The tips feature a 110° wide, tapered flat spray angle with air induction technology for better drift management, made of 2-piece UHMWPE polymer for chemical resistance and wear life.
  • Handgun: Deluxe Pistol Grip Handgun with X-26 Tip (5018331).
  • Hose: 25 Ft. Handgun Hose (3/8" I.D.) and 25 Ft. Vertical throw, 40 Ft. Horizontal Throw.
  • Frame: Bolt-Together Frame, 3-Point Welded Front Frame (5282431).
  • Nozzles: Corrosion-Resistant Nylon Nozzles.
  • Strainers: Check Valve Strainers, 50 Mesh, 5 PSI.
  • Weight (full): Approximately 475 Lbs. (when filled with water).
  • Dimensions:
    • Overall Length: 93.505"
    • Overall Width: 37.250"
    • Overall Height: 29.309"
    • Tank Length: 34.563"
    • Tank Width: 27.000"
    • Tank Height: 24.625"
    • Frame Width (at 3-point hitch): 19.000"

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The sprayer is partially assembled upon receipt. Users must follow detailed instructions for bolting the frame, attaching side plates, back tie plates, boom mounts, and positioning the tank. Electrical hook-up requires connecting the lead wire to a fully charged 12-volt battery, ensuring proper polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  • Testing: It is crucial to test the sprayer with plain water before using any chemicals. This allows for checking leaks and proper operation without wasting expensive chemicals. After any repair work, re-testing with water is mandatory.
  • Operation:
    • Fill the tank partially with water, then add the desired chemical, and top off with water to the proper level.
    • Turn on the pump using the On/Off switch on the lead wire. The pump is designed to run only when a discharge is open (spray gun, bypass, or boom).
    • For boom spraying, turn the boom valve to "on" (Detail A). Pressure can be adjusted by slowly opening the bypass (Press Adj) line valve (Detail B) to recirculate solution back into the tank.
    • For handgun use, squeeze the lever to spray.
    • The pump's pressure switch will shut off the pump when all discharges are closed.
    • Users must read and follow chemical label instructions and wear protective gear.
    • Exercise caution when handling a filled sprayer to avoid loss of control or overturning.
    • Do not turn on power until ready to spray to avoid unintentional spray release.
  • Calibration: Calibration is essential for safe and efficient chemical application. Users should consult tip and speed charts, then chemical labels for mixing ratios.
  • Nozzle Design: The AIXR11002VP tips are designed for better drift management and excellent chemical resistance, suitable for systemic products. Recommended minimum spray height is 20"-22" above the target, with an optimum height of 20".
  • Safety: Do not use the pump in an explosive environment or to pump flammable/combustible fluids (gasoline, kerosene, fuel, oil, bleach, petroleum products). Do not leave spray mixture in the pump for extended periods. Use clean, filtered water for spraying.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean and rinse the pump after each use with Fimco Tank Neutralizer. Remove the tank lid and ensure the tank is clean and free of foreign material before filling. Rinse out any tank residue.
  • Winterization: Winterize the pump or sprayer by rinsing, draining, and running RV Antifreeze through it before storing for the winter.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Pump not running: Check wiring, ON/OFF switch, fuse, pressure switch, 12-volt power source, and for low voltage.
    • Pump does not prime/no discharge: Check for kinked hoses, empty product supply, defective check valve, debris in check valve assembly, cracks in pump housing, air leaks in supply line, clogged strainer.
    • Low pressure/low flow: Check for leaks in the discharge line, restrictions in the discharge line, debris in intake or nozzle orifice, worn/dirty check valve.
    • Pump surges: May be caused by low flow, spray wand adjusted too fine, defective pressure switch, leaks in discharge line, debris in nozzle orifice, long discharge hose, clogged strainer/filter, worn/dirty check valve. Adjust pressure switch 1/4 turn clockwise until surging stops.
    • Pump continues to run: Check for leaks in the discharge line, defective pressure switch, system leaks, air trapped in outlet line or pump head, excessive voltage.
    • Fuse blows: Improper adjustment of pressure switch, damaged/defective wiring harness, defective pressure switch.
    • Motor Running-No Pressure (Check Valve Cleaning): If the pump runs but has no pressure, clean the check valve by removing the pump head, cleaning the valve under hot, soapy water, and scrubbing with a soft brush.
    • Leaking Elbow on Manifold: Remove the elbow, check for a flat washer, and tighten the connection by twisting clockwise with an allen wrench or screwdriver.
  • Part Replacement: The manual provides detailed exploded views and parts lists for the pump, sprayer, manifold, and boom assemblies, facilitating easy identification and ordering of replacement parts.
