The Bessemer Patio Fireplace is an outdoor heating appliance designed for comfort, quality, and style. It serves as a patio fireplace, providing warmth and ambiance for outdoor gatherings. This product is intended for outdoor use only and should not be used in any enclosed area, building, or garage, as toxic carbon monoxide fumes can accumulate and cause asphyxiation. It is not designed for indoor heating or commercial use and should not be operated by children or used on boats or recreational vehicles.
The fireplace is designed for use with dry, seasoned hardwood, which burns hotter, more completely, and produces less smoke. Before using the fireplace, it is recommended to fill the bottom bowl with 1-2 inches of sand to help insulate it from the fire and protect surfaces below. The air vent on the bowl can be adjusted; keeping it closed is best when the fire bowl is in use, as opening it will decrease air circulation and diminish the fire.
When operating the fireplace, users should exercise the same precautions as with any open fire. It is crucial to always use the fireplace on a hard, level, non-combustible surface such as concrete, rock, or stone. Asphalt or blacktop surfaces are not acceptable, and it should never be used on wooden decks. If using on a wooden deck or other combustible surface, a non-flammable and heat-resistant material like concrete pavers, brick, or stone must be placed between the fire pit and the surface.
The fireplace should not be used in windy conditions, and spark guards must always be securely in place during operation. Users should never wear flammable or loose clothing when operating the fireplace. All surfaces become hot during operation, so it is essential not to touch the fireplace until it has completely cooled, unless wearing protective gear such as pot holders, gloves, or BBQ mittens. Ashes or coals should never be touched to check for heat.
It is important not to overload the fireplace. Additional firewood should only be added after the existing fire has burned down. If any portion of the bowl, lid, or spark guards glows red, it indicates overloading. Users should avoid leaning over the fireplace when lighting or when it is in use, and hot spark guards or fireplace tools should not be placed on combustible surfaces like grass, wooden decks, or furniture. Breathing smoke from the fire and getting it into the eyes should also be avoided.
The following materials should NOT be burned in the fireplace: charcoal briquets, lump charcoal, manufactured logs, driftwood, trash, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, painted, stained, or pressure-treated wood. Softwoods like pine or cedar should also be avoided as they can throw sparks. Gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, or alcohol should never be used to light or relight fires.
The fireplace should not be moved or stored until all ashes and coals are completely extinguished. It is also important not to store or use an LP gas cylinder within 10 feet (3.05 m) of the fireplace while it is in operation. The fireplace should not be used near automobiles, trucks, vans, or recreational vehicles, or in an explosive atmosphere. The area around the outdoor fireplace should be kept clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable liquids. It should also not be used under any overhead or near unprotected combustible constructions, or near overhanging trees and shrubs.
Regular inspection and cleaning are crucial for ensuring product safety and extending the life of the fireplace. Before any inspection or cleaning, the fire must be COMPLETELY out.
The product is warranted for one year from the original purchase date against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. This warranty does not cover normal wear/weathering, exposure to water, freezing temperatures, oils, fluids, chemicals, or commercial use if the unit is not designated as a commercial model. Damage due to overloading or over-firing the fireplace is not covered under the product warranty.
