Overview

This document describes the 22" Folding Fire Pit, an outdoor appliance designed for recreational use, providing warmth and ambiance. It is not intended for commercial use or indoor heating, as toxic carbon monoxide fumes can accumulate and cause asphyxiation. The fire pit is designed for use with dry, seasoned hardwood, which burns hotter, more completely, and produces less smoke.

Function Description:

The 22" Folding Fire Pit serves as a portable and compact solution for outdoor fires. It features a fire bowl with a leg assembly that can be folded for easy storage and transport, facilitated by an included carry bag. The fire pit comes with a fire screen to contain sparks, a cooking grill for grilling food over the fire, and a wood grate to elevate the wood for better airflow. A screen lift tool is provided for safely handling the hot fire screen, and cooking grate handles are included for manipulating the cooking grill. The primary function is to create an outdoor fire for warmth and cooking, while ensuring safety through its design and accessories.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: This fire pit is strictly for outdoor use and must not be operated in buildings, garages, or any enclosed areas. It should also not be used on boats or recreational vehicles.
  • Fuel Type: Only dry, seasoned hardwood should be used as fuel. Burning charcoal briquets, lump charcoal, manufactured logs, driftwood, trash, leaves, paper, cardboard, plywood, painted or stained wood, or pressure-treated wood is prohibited. Softwoods like pine or cedar should be avoided as they can throw sparks.
  • Assembly and Setup: The fire pit requires assembly, which involves unfolding the leg assembly of the fire bowl until the legs are fully extended and locked. The handle is attached to the fire screen using an M6 nut. The wood grate, cooking grill, and fire screen are then placed into the fire bowl in sequence. All parts must be securely fastened and tightened before use.
  • Safe Operation:
    • Always use the fire pit on a hard, level, non-combustible surface such as concrete, rock, or stone. Asphalt or blacktop surfaces may not be suitable, and wooden decks should be avoided unless a non-flammable, heat-resistant material (like concrete pavers or brick) is placed between the fire pit and the surface.
    • The fire pit must be completely assembled before operation.
    • Do not overload the fire pit; add additional firewood only after the existing fire has burned down. If any part of the bowl lid or spark guards glows red, it indicates overloading.
    • The fire screen must be securely in place during operation.
    • Use the provided screen lift tool to move the hot fire screen and cooking grate handles for the cooking grill.
    • Do not use gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, or alcohol to light or relight fires.
    • Exercise the same precautions as with any open fire.
    • Do not leave a lit fire pit unattended, especially around children and pets.
    • Avoid wearing flammable or loose clothing when operating the fire pit.
    • Do not use in windy conditions.
    • Keep all electrical cords away from the hot fire pit.
    • Do not lean over the fire pit when lighting or in use.
    • Avoid breathing smoke and getting it into your eyes.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Read the entire owner's manual before use.
    • Do not operate if under the influence of alcohol, prescription, or non-prescription drugs that may impair judgment.
    • Keep the outdoor area clean and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable liquids.
    • Do not use near automobiles, trucks, vans, or recreational vehicles.
    • Do not use under any overhead or near unprotected combustible constructions, including overhanging trees and shrubs.
    • Do not store or use an LP gas cylinder within 10 feet (3.05m) of the fire pit while it is in operation.
  • Post-Use Handling:
    • Do not attempt to move or store the fire pit until all ashes and coals are completely extinguished and the unit has cooled down.
    • Do not remove ashes or coals until they are completely and fully extinguished.
    • All surfaces of the fire pit become hot during operation; do not touch until completely cooled unless wearing protective gear (potholders, gloves, BBQ mittens, hot pads). Never touch ashes or coals to check for heat.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: The fire pit should be inspected regularly to ensure product safety and longevity. This inspection should only occur when the fire pit is completely out and cooled.
    • Check the handle on the fire screen for security.
    • Examine all parts for signs of damage or rust.
    • If any damaged parts are found, do not operate the fire pit until necessary repairs or replacements have been made.
    • After a period of storage or non-use, check for signs of damage and creosote build-up. Do not operate until repairs and/or cleanup are executed.
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning promotes a safer experience and extends product life. A slight discoloration of the finish may occur after repeated use.
    • Cleaning should only be performed when the fire pit is completely out and cooled.
    • Do not use oven cleaner or abrasive cleaners, as they will damage the product.
    • Do not clean any part of the fire pit in a self-cleaning oven, as it may damage the finish.
    • Wipe exterior surfaces with a mild dishwashing detergent or baking soda.
    • For stubborn surfaces, use a citrus-based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush.
    • Rinse with clean water.
    • Remove built-up creosote from components using a chimney cleaning product.
  • Rust Prevention: While Fire Sense products are designed to resist premature rusting, all metals will eventually rust. In environments that promote premature rusting, at the first sign of rust or other corrosion, use an emery cloth, metal-grade sandpaper, or a rotary tool to buff away the blemish. Then, touch up the spot with rust-resistant spray paint available at local hardware stores.
  • Storage:
    • Do not move or store the fire pit until the fire is completely out and the unit has cooled.
    • Once the fire is out and coals are cold, remove ashes and dispose of them properly.
    • For storage, pull the ring until the pin slides out of the hole, then fold the legs up against the bottom bowl. Repeat for all three legs.
    • Wipe all surfaces clean with a soft rag.
    • Replace all parts inside the included carry bag.
    • It is best to cover the fire pit with a protective vinyl cover.
    • Store the assembled fire pit in a location away from children and pets.
    • If a protective cover is not used, store the fire pit in a dry location to maximize product life.
    • Never fold or store a hot fire pit.
