This document provides installation and replacement instructions for Fisher & Paykel water filters, specifically models 836848 and 842802, used in ice and water refrigeration products. It serves as an installation guide for users in NZ, AU, GB, IE, HK, SG, IN, US, and CA.
Function Description:
The Fisher & Paykel water filter is designed to filter water supplied to ice and water refrigeration products, ensuring the quality of drinking water and ice. It is an essential component for refrigerators equipped with ice and water dispensers, providing filtered water for consumption and ice production. The filter removes impurities and improves the taste and odor of water.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Water Filter Models: 836848 & 842802.
- Maximum Operating Water Pressure: The system can withstand up to 120 psi (827 kPa) of water pressure. A pressure-reducing valve is required if water pressure exceeds this limit.
- Maximum Operating Water Temperature: 100°F (38°C).
- Minimum Operating Water Temperature: 33°F (0.6°C).
- Replacement Interval: The filter cartridge needs to be changed every 6 months or when the replacement indicator icon illuminates.
Usage Features:
- Installation: The water connection to the refrigerator's ice and water system must be installed by a qualified plumber or Fisher & Paykel trained service technician, adhering to all state and local plumbing codes.
- External Filter Replacement (for Refrigerators with External Filter):
- Removing the old filter: Grasp and firmly twist the cartridge in an anti-clockwise direction (to the left). Pull the cartridge away from the filter head (downwards). A few drops of water may be present. Discard the old filter.
- Installing the new filter: Remove plastic wrapping and protective cap. Align the filter, insert it into the filter head, and rotate in a clockwise direction (to the right).
- Integrated Filter Replacement (for ActiveSmart™ Integrated Refrigerators):
- Accessing the filter: Remove the toe kick grille by inserting fingers into the left and right square openings and pulling it towards you. Pull the freezer drawer out slightly; the filter is on the left-hand side.
- Removing the old filter: Use the filter removal tool to align with the cartridge handle and turn 90° counterclockwise to loosen. Remove the tool, grasp the cartridge handle, and pull it towards you. Discard the old filter.
- Installing the new filter: Remove plastic wrapping and protective cap from the new filter. Re-insert the toe kick grille. Pull the freezer drawer out slightly. Align the filter correctly and use the filter tool to push it firmly into the filter head. Rotate the filter head clockwise 90° to lock it in place. Ensure the filter is in the locked position, remove the tool, and close the freezer drawer.
- Flushing the Water Filter (All Models):
- Initial Setup: Ensure the refrigerator is switched on and allowed at least 2 hours to cool.
- Through Water Dispenser: Press the dispenser pad to dispense 1 gallon (4L) of water. A harmless carbon residue may be dispensed. Wait 4 minutes, then dispense another 1 gallon (4L). Wait another 4 minutes, then dispense a final 1 gallon (4L). The dispenser is ready for use. Some dripping may occur for a few days as trapped air clears.
- Through Ice Maker: Turn on the ice maker (refer to the user guide). Press the "minus" and "plus" buttons together for 4 seconds, then close the doors. The ice tray will flip twice, emptying water into the bin. Repeat this step to remove dust. Empty the water from the ice bin. Discard the first full bin of ice produced, as it may be discolored.
- Optimum Performance: For Ice & Water models, optimum performance is reached after two to three full bins of ice. For Ice-only models, it's reached after four to five full bins of ice.
- Resetting the Filter Indicator: After replacing the filter, press the "minus" and "plus" buttons together for 4 seconds. The filter change indicator icon on the control panel and/or external display will turn off. It is important not to reset the indicator before changing the filter to maintain accurate monitoring.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Replacement: The filter cartridge must be replaced every 6 months or when the replacement indicator illuminates to maintain optimal filter performance and prevent potential property damage from leakage or flooding due to filter failure.
- Freezing Prevention: If the water filtration system has been allowed to freeze, the filter cartridge must be replaced.
- Taste/Odor Issues: If ice has an unpleasant taste or odor, dispose of the ice and follow flushing instructions. If the issue persists, a new filter cartridge may be needed.
- Warranty: Filter replacement is the consumer's responsibility and is not covered by the warranty, except in cases of faulty parts or materials within the filter cartridge itself.
- Troubleshooting Reduced Filter Life: If filter life is excessively reduced, consult a local plumber or water supplier for advice on suitable filtration requirements for your home's water supply.
- Water Hammer Prevention: Do not install the system where water hammer conditions may occur. If such conditions exist, a water hammer arrester must be installed.
- Temperature Restrictions: Do not install systems in areas where ambient temperatures may exceed 100°F (38°C) or drop below 33°F (0.6°C). Do not install on hot water supply lines.
