The Extech SD700 is a Barometric Pressure, Humidity, and Temperature Datalogger, designed to measure, display, and store environmental data over time. This device is part of the Extech Instruments line, a FLIR company, and is ISO-9001 certified. The SD700 records data onto an SD card in Excel® format, facilitating easy transfer and analysis on a PC.
Function Description:
The SD700 simultaneously displays Temperature, Relative Humidity, and Barometric Pressure on its 60 x 50 mm (2.4 x 2.0") LCD. It functions as a datalogger, timestamping and storing readings at user-selectable intervals onto an SD memory card. The device is powered by six 'AAA' alkaline batteries or an optional 9V AC adaptor, offering long battery life, typically over one month with a 60-second sampling rate. The internal clock must be set for accurate timestamping of logged data. The device does not have a power switch; it is always on when batteries are installed or the AC adaptor is plugged in.

Usage Features:
- Datalogging: To start logging, press and hold the LOG (ENTER) button for >2 seconds. "DATALOGGER" will appear, and the meter will beep with each recorded data point (if enabled). To stop, press and hold LOG for >2 seconds again. "DATALOGGER" will change to "DATA", and the meter will count down through recorded data.
- SD Card Management: The device creates folders (e.g., HBA01) and files (e.g., HBA01001.xls) on the SD card. Each file can store up to 30,000 columns of data before a new file is created. It's crucial to properly end the record function before removing the SD card to protect data. SD cards should be at least 1GB and formatted using the device's internal formatting procedure.
- Time/Date/Sample Rate Check: Press and hold the TIME button for >2 seconds to cycle through date, time, and sample rate information.
- Advanced Settings (SET Mode): Accessible by pressing and holding the SET button for >2 seconds (datalogging must be OFF). This mode allows users to:
- Sd F (Format SD card): Select YES/NO to format the card and erase all data.
- dAtE (Set date and time): Adjust date and time fields using the ▲/▼ buttons and LOG button to store values and navigate fields.
- SP-t (Set sample rate): Choose sampling rates from 5, 10, 30, 60, 120, 300, 600 seconds, or AUTO.
- bEEP (Set beeper ON/OFF): Enable or disable the audible beep.
- dEC (Set decimal character): Select USA (decimal point) or Euro (comma) for numeric indicators.
- t-CF (Set Temperature unit): Choose between °F or °C.
- rS232 (Set RS232 data output ON/OFF): Enable or disable serial data output.
- Baro (Set Barometric Pressure unit): Select between inches of mercury (InHg), millimeters of mercury (-Hg), or hectoPascal (hPa).
- ESC (Exit setting mode): Return to normal operation.
- RS232 Interface: A serial output is available for linking the meter to a PC's serial port.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Installation and Replacement: The device indicates low battery with a low battery icon. To replace batteries, remove the Philips head screw on the rear cover, lift the cover, replace the six 'AAA' alkaline batteries (observing polarity), and secure the cover.
- System RESET: If the CPU becomes unresponsive or the meter freezes, a RESET button on the side of the datalogger (accessible with a paper clip) can be pressed to restore the meter to a working state.
- SD Card Formatting: It is recommended to format the SD card using the meter's advanced features to ensure compatibility and correct data structure, especially if the card has been used with other devices.
- Battery Safety Reminders:
- Never dispose of batteries in a fire.
- Never mix battery types.
- Always install new batteries of the same type.
- Disposal: All used batteries must be returned to community collection points or accumulators and not disposed of in household trash. The device itself should be disposed of according to valid legal stipulations at the end of its lifecycle.
