The Outland Firebowl is a portable propane fire pit designed to create ambiance in outdoor settings. It is tested by CSA International and bears the SP Certified and SP Certified Design marks, indicating compliance with safety and design standards.
Function Description:
The Outland Firebowl is an outdoor gas appliance that uses an LP-gas cylinder to produce a flame, mimicking a traditional fire. It is intended for outdoor use only and should not be used in enclosed spaces such as campers, tents, cars, or homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide hazard. The appliance is designed to safely combust propane only; solid fuels, wood, or any other materials should not be burned in it. The unit features a control dial to adjust the flame height, allowing users to create their desired ambiance. An approved LP-Cylinder stabilizer ring is included and must be used to prevent the LP gas cylinder from tipping over during operation.

- Must be constructed and marked in accordance with Standard, CAN/CSA B339, Cylinders, Spheres and Tubes for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Must be provided with a listed overfilling prevention device.
- Must have a cylinder connection device compatible with outdoor cooking appliances.
- Maximum capacity: 20lb (9 kg).
- Approximate dimensions: 18" (46 cm) high & 12" (30 cm) diameter.
- Must have a collar to protect the cylinder valve.
- Ventilation for LP-gas cylinder enclosure: If enclosed, it must be ventilated by openings at both upper and lower levels. One side of the enclosure must be completely open, or if it has four sides, a top, and a bottom, at least two equally sized ventilation openings must be provided in the sidewalls within 5 inches (217 mm) of the top, spaced at a minimum of 90 degrees (1.57 rad), with a total free area of not less than 1 in² per lb (14.2 cm² per kg) of stored fuel capacity. Floor-level ventilation openings must have a total free area of not less than 1/2 in² per lb (7.1 cm² per kg) of stored fuel capacity. If floor-level openings are in the side wall, there must be at least two openings, with the bottom 1 inch (25.4 mm) or less from the floor and the upper edge no more than 5 inches (127 mm) above the floor. All openings must be equally sized, spaced at a minimum of 90 degrees (1.57 rad), and unobstructed. Each opening must have minimum dimensions to permit the entrance of a 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) diameter rod. Ventilation openings in sidewalls must not communicate directly with other enclosures of the appliance.
- Regulator: The gas pressure regulator provided with the appliance must be used and must be the same model as supplied with the unit.
- Cylinder Supply System: Must be arranged for vapor withdrawal.
- Estimated Burn Time: 7 to 11 hours using a full 20 lb (9kg) propane cylinder, depending on flame height.
Usage Features:
- Outdoor Use Only: This appliance is strictly for outdoor use in a well-ventilated space and must not be used in any building, garage, or enclosed area.
- Easy Assembly: The unit comes with four bags of rocks (including spares), a 10' propane-rated hose with an attached regulator, and a propane tank stabilizer ring. Rocks are arranged in the burner area, with mid-sized rocks ("M") placed first, followed by larger rocks ("L") on top.
- Ignition Procedure:
- Ensure the unit valve dial is in the "OFF" position.
- Securely attach the regulator to the propane cylinder.
- Extend the hose to full length, ensuring the propane tank is as far as safely possible from the Firebowl, and place the tank in the included stabilizer ring.
- Slowly turn the cylinder valve to the open position.
- Perform a leak test on all connections using a solution of half liquid detergent and half water. Bubbles indicate a leak, which must be corrected before use.
- Using a lighter or match, ignite the flame slightly above the burner, then slowly open the appliance valve (counter-clockwise) until the unit ignites.
- Once burning normally, set the dial to the desired flame height.
- Low Flame Troubleshooting: If experiencing low flame or abnormal flame height, the CSA excess flow safety device in the hose regulator may have tripped. To correct this, close the propane cylinder valve, open and then close the Firebowl gas knob valve to release pressure, disconnect and reconnect the propane cylinder valve connection, slowly open the propane cylinder valve, perform a leak test, and repeat the ignition sequence.
- Extinguishing Procedure:
- Turn the cylinder valve to the "Closed" position.
- Turn the appliance valve to the "Off" position by pushing and turning the knob clockwise.
- Allow the unit to cool for at least five minutes before relighting.
- Safety Precautions:
- Keep the LP gas cylinder a minimum distance of three feet (36 inches) away from the appliance.
- Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids near the appliance.
- An LP-cylinder not connected for use shall not be stored near the appliance.
- Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full.
- Do not use under overhead combustible surfaces.
- Supervise young children carefully and keep them away from the unit to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
- Clothing or other flammable materials should not be hung from or placed near the appliance.
- Any guard or protective device removed for servicing must be replaced before operation.
- Ensure the gas hose is placed where it is unlikely to be tripped over or accidentally damaged.
- Do not place any objects other than supplied rocks inside the burner component.
- Do not add wood or any other materials to the fire.
- Do not connect to a remote gas supply.
- Do not use if any part has been under water; call a qualified service technician.
- Do not leave the appliance in the rain.
Maintenance Features:
- Periodic Inspection: The appliance should be inspected before use and at least annually by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning may be required.
- Burner Inspection: Inspect the burner prior to each use. It must be replaced if there is evidence of damage. Visually verify that the burner is burning during operation. If no flames are present, immediately turn the valve to "off" and repeat the ignition procedure.
- Hose Inspection: Inspect the hose prior to each use. The hose assembly must be replaced if there is evidence of excessive abrasion, wear, or damage.
- Cleaning: If any part of the appliance becomes soiled or dirty, wipe lightly with a damp cloth. Do not use flammable or corrosive cleaning products.
- Storage: Keep the Firebowl out of the rain and store it in a dry place. Indoor storage is permissible only if the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the appliance. Cylinders must be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area out of the reach of children, with threaded valve plugs tightly installed.
- Clearance: Keep the appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
- Valve and Orifice Cleaning: Always inspect and clear all valve and gas orifices of any foreign debris, including spider webs, prior to lighting.
- Replacement Parts: Replacement parts and a list of such parts are available from FMI Brands Inc. through their contact information. Replacement rocks/parts can be purchased at www.outlandfirebowl.com or by calling 888-514-1663.
