Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Ford Focus 3 c346 2013 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is a device manual for a Ford vehicle, likely a Focus model from 2013. It provides comprehensive information on the vehicle's functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Vehicle Overview and General Information

The manual begins with an introduction to the vehicle, including a symbols glossary and recommendations for replacement parts. It then offers an "At a Glance" section with diagrams of the front exterior, vehicle interior, instrument panel, and rear exterior, highlighting key components and their corresponding page numbers for detailed information.

General Information on Radio Frequencies: The remote control uses radio frequencies that can be affected by other short-distance transmissions. If jammed, the key can be used to lock/unlock doors. It's important to check if the vehicle is locked to prevent malicious frequency blocking. The operating range varies with the environment.

Replacement Parts Recommendation: The vehicle is built with quality parts, and using genuine Ford and Motorcraft parts is recommended for scheduled maintenance and repairs to ensure compliance with specifications and maintain warranty coverage.

Key Systems and Controls

Keys and Remote Controls:

  • Reprogramming the unlocking function: The unlocking function can be reprogrammed to unlock all doors or just the driver's door and luggage compartment lid. This is done by pressing and holding the unlock and lock buttons simultaneously for at least four seconds with the ignition off.
  • Changing the remote control battery: Requires carefully removing the cover, taking out the key blade, twisting to separate the halves, prying out the old 3V CR 2032 battery (installing the new one with + facing downwards), and reassembling. Old batteries should be disposed of environmentally friendly.
  • Keyless remote control with key blade: Instructions are provided for disassembling the remote to replace the battery.

Locks:

  • Central locking: Doors can be locked with the key (turning the top towards the front of the vehicle) or with the remote control (pressing the lock button).
  • Double locking: This theft protection feature prevents opening doors from the inside. It's activated by turning the key twice within three seconds or pressing the remote lock button twice within three seconds. Cannot be activated with persons or animals inside.
  • Unlocking: Doors can be unlocked with the key (turning the top towards the rear) or with the remote control (pressing the unlock button).
  • Automatic relocking: If no door or the luggage compartment lid is opened, or the ignition is not turned on within 45 seconds of unlocking, the doors will automatically relock, and the alarm will re-arm.
  • Global opening and closing: Electric windows can be operated with the ignition off. For global opening, press and hold the unlock button for at least three seconds. For global closing, press and hold the lock button for at least three seconds. Caution is advised for global closing.
  • Keyless entry: Allows operation without a key or remote. Requires a valid passive key within 1.5 meters of door handles or luggage compartment lid. Locking is done by touching a front door handle lock sensor once for central locking/alarm arming, or twice within three seconds for double locking/alarm arming. Unlocking is done by opening any door with a valid passive key nearby. The system may not function if the key is near metal objects, electronic devices, or if the vehicle/key battery is flat. Disabled keys (left inside a locked vehicle) cannot start the engine until re-enabled by unlocking with a passive key or remote and turning on the ignition.

Engine Immobiliser:

  • Principle of operation: A theft protection system preventing engine start with an incorrectly coded key.
  • Coded keys: Keys should not be shielded by metal objects. If a key is lost, all remaining keys should be erased and recoded by a Ford Dealer.
  • Arming/Disarming: Automatically armed a short time after ignition off, and disarmed when ignition is switched on with a correctly coded key.

Alarm:

  • Principle of operation: Vehicle may have perimeter alarm, perimeter alarm with interior sensors, category one alarm with interior sensors and battery back-up sounder, or category one alarm with tilt sensors.
  • Perimeter alarm: Deters unauthorized access through doors, bonnet, and protects the audio unit.
  • Interior sensors: Detect movement inside the vehicle. Must not be covered. Do not activate with persons/animals inside.
  • Battery back-up sounder: An extra siren that sounds if the alarm is triggered, even if the vehicle battery is disconnected.
  • Tilt sensors: Detect changes in vehicle inclination (e.g., wheel theft, towing). Can be deactivated for ferries.
  • Triggering the alarm: Activated by opening doors/tailgate/bonnet without a valid key, removing audio/navigation system, interior movement, battery disconnection (with back-up sounder), or changes in inclination.
  • Full and reduced guard: Full guard activates interior sensors. Reduced guard deactivates them (useful for animals inside). "Ask on Exit" option allows selection at ignition off.
  • Arming/Disarming: Armed by locking the vehicle. Disarmed by unlocking with key/remote and switching ignition on (within 12 seconds for category one alarm).

Driving and Occupant Protection

Occupant Protection:

  • Airbags: Front airbags deploy in significant frontal collisions (up to 30 degrees from left/right). Side airbags deploy in significant lateral collisions. Curtain airbags deploy in significant lateral collisions.
  • Warnings: Do not modify the front of the vehicle, use rearward-facing child restraints on airbag-protected seats, or obstruct airbag areas. Wear seat belts correctly. Repairs should be done by trained technicians.
  • Seat belts: Each seat belt for one occupant. Use correct buckle. Do not use slack/twisted belts or wear thick clothing. Position shoulder strap over shoulder, lap strap tightly across hips.
  • Status after a collision: Seat belts and pretensioners should be renewed after an accident.
  • Fastening seat belts: Insert tongue until it clicks.
  • Seat belt height adjustment: Adjuster allows raising/lowering for comfort.
  • Beltminder™: Warning lamp and audible warning if driver/front passenger seat belt is unfastened at speed. Deactivatable by Ford Dealer.
  • Using seat belts during pregnancy: Lap-sash belt should be worn with buckle over hip, lap section tight and low across the abdomen.

Child Safety:

  • Child restraints: Children must be properly restrained in systems complying with Australian Standard AS1754, suitable for their size/weight, and correctly fitted.
  • Warnings: Never use rearward-facing restraints on airbag-protected seats. Incorrectly fitted restraints can cause injury. Do not use if tether strap falls into seat split. Do not alter restraints. Do not hold children on lap while moving. Do not leave children unattended. Destroy restraints after severe crashes.
  • Child restraint anchorage fitting locations: Three anchor points for rear seating positions, suitable for AS1754-2004 or later restraints.
  • Protecting larger children: Use booster seats with lap-sash belts once child outgrows forward-facing restraints.
  • Checking seat belt fit: If lap-sash belt touches/crosses neck, a booster seat is needed.
  • Child safety locks: Prevent rear doors from being opened from the inside. Turn anti-clockwise for left-hand side, clockwise for right-hand side to lock.

Steering Wheel:

  • Adjusting the steering wheel: Never adjust while moving. Ensure locking lever is fully engaged.
  • Audio control: Remote control for volume (up/down), seek (up/next, down/previous), and tuning/track selection.
  • Voice control: Button to select/deselect voice control.

  • Autolamps: Headlamps turn on/off automatically based on ambient light. Time delay adjustable.
  • Automatic main beam control: System automatically switches main beam on/off based on light conditions, traffic, and speed. Requires camera sensor to be clear.
  • Front fog lamps: Use only in restricted visibility (fog, snow, rain).
  • Rear fog lamps: Do not use in rain/snow if visibility is more than 50 meters.
  • Hazard warning flashers: Flash if braking heavily (country dependent).
  • Direction indicators: Tap lever for three flashes.
  • Cornering lamps: Illuminate inside a corner when turning.
  • Interior lamps: LED lighting. Controlled by switches. Ambient lighting available.
