Overview

The GC3 is a golf launch monitor designed to provide industry-leading performance insight and true-to-life simulation for golfers. It utilizes advanced photometric technology to ensure accuracy and reliability on both the range and in a home simulator setting. The device integrates with the FSX performance and gaming suite, offering access to world-class courses, skill-building games, and global leagues and competitions.

Function Description:

The GC3's primary function is to capture and analyze golf swing and ball flight data. It uses three high-speed cameras to precisely track the ball and, when enabled, the clubface. This data is then displayed on its touch screen, providing immediate feedback to the user. The device can operate as a standalone unit, displaying key metrics directly, or connect to supporting apps and software for a more comprehensive experience.

Usage Features:

  • Powering On/Off: To power on, press and release the power button. The GC3 Indicator light will illuminate. To power off, press and release the power button again.
  • Internet Connectivity: Upon first power-up, the GC3 prompts for internet connection. This can be achieved via Wi-Fi by selecting a network and entering a password, or by connecting to a PC via an Ethernet cable to a local router or switch. Regular internet connection (at least once every 45 days) is required for full functionality, including supporting apps and software. A warning will appear if connection is needed within 5 days, and after 45 days, data channels will be blocked until validation renewal.
  • Registration: After connecting to the internet, a Registration QR Code appears on the GC3 display. Users can scan this code with a phone or tablet to set up a login and register their device. Current registration information can be found by swiping down to quick settings, tapping "ABOUT," then "ACCOUNT," and if needed, "WEB DASHBOARD."
  • Subscriptions: If an "ADD A SUBSCRIPTION" screen appears, users can scan the QR code to set up a subscription, enhancing the device's value.
  • Ball Placement & Hitting: For use, the GC3 should be placed upright approximately 2 feet from the hitting area, ensuring it's level with the hitting surface if a mat is used. The ball is placed on the ground in front of the GC3. The device provides visual cues: "MOVE BALL INTO HITTING ZONE" if the ball is outside, and "MULTIPLE BALLS DETECTED" if more than one ball is in the zone. Once correctly placed, the GC3 displays "READY," and the LED light changes from blinking to solid.
  • Ball Data Explained: After hitting the ball, the GC3 records and displays several key metrics:
    • Speed: Velocity of the ball just after impact, a main component in generating distance.
    • Launch Angle: Initial vertical angle of ascent, measured in degrees, which, combined with ball spin and speed, determines carry and total distance.
    • Push/Pull: Horizontal direction of the ball at impact. In right-handed mode, "Push" means the ball moves "in to out" (away from the hitter), while "Pull" means "out to in" (towards the hitter).
    • Carry: The total distance of flight.
    • Side Spin: Degree of sideways (horizontal) spin, defining ball curvature or shot shape. More sidespin leads to greater curvature.
    • Back Spin: Backward rotation of the ball, defining ball lift and trajectory. More backspin leads to greater ball height.
  • Quick Settings: Swiping down on the GC3 display accesses the Quick Settings page. Here, users can adjust:
    • Backlight: Turn the screen backlight on or off.
    • Settings: Access tracking mode, target alignment, firmware, units of measurement, Wi-Fi, display settings, diagnostics, and shot saver.
    • Left/Right-Handed Mode: Toggle between left and right-handed modes.
    • About: View account information, version, patents, system information, web dashboard, and counters.
    • Battery: Check battery life.
  • Club Tracking: To enable club tracking, users navigate to SETTINGS, then TRACKING MODE from the Quick Settings page. This mode allows the GC3 to track clubface data.
    • Applying a Club Marker: To track club data, a club marker (included) must be applied to the clubface. First, clean the clubface with an alcohol pad or water. Then, place the adhesive-side-down marker at the specified location on the clubface. Firmly press the marker with a finger and gently pull away the tab, leaving only the marker.
    • Club Data Explained: When club tracking is active, the GC3 displays additional metrics after a swing:
      • Club Speed: Speed of the club just prior to impact, indicating potential distance.
      • Path In/Path Out: Direction of the club head at impact. A "0" path is a straight shot. A negative path means the ball moves "out to in," and a positive path means "in to out."
      • Angle of Attack: Vertical angle of the club head at impact. A positive number indicates hitting up on the ball, while a negative number indicates hitting down.
      • Efficiency (Smash Factor): Ratio between club head and golf ball velocities.
  • Target Alignment: Target alignment can be adjusted up to 10 degrees using the FSS Alignment Stick. To do this, swipe down to Quick Settings, select SETTINGS, then TARGET ALIGNMENT. Place the Alignment Stick in the GC3 hitting zone, align it to your target, and step away for calibration. After a few seconds, both LED indicators will show yellow, and an audible tone will sound, displaying the new alignment angle on the LCD screen. Alignment can be viewed and reset from the Target Alignment menu in System Options and is always reset when the unit is powered off.
  • Indicator Light Colors:
    • Blue: Device is in Ball Mode.
    • Green: Device is in Club & Ball Mode.
    • Red: An error is present (Error Status).
    • White: Quick Launch Menu is open (close to resume use).
    • Blinking: Device is looking for a ball.
    • Solid: Device has locked onto a ball and is ready for use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Storage: Before storing, ensure the GC3 is powered off. Store it in a cool, dry environment, preferably in its original foam-lined packaging or a specially designed carrying case to prevent damage. Always store the GC3 in a safe, dry, and dust-free environment after use.
  • Cleaning: To remove dirt, wipe the device with a damp cloth, being careful to gently clear the lenses to avoid scratching. An air can or compressed air can be used to gently blow off loose items.
  • Safety Tips:
    • Only use the power adapter that came with the device for charging to prevent damage, fire, or injury.
    • DO NOT disassemble, change, or attempt to repair the GC3, as this can result in electric shock and void the manufacturer's warranty.
    • DO NOT use the GC3 in environments with high humidity, smoke, or dust.
    • To avoid possible injury, DO NOT look directly into the GC3 when it is turned on.
    • If foreign objects or water enter the GC3, disconnect it from external power and turn it off immediately to prevent fire or electric shock.
    • The GC3 uses three precisely calibrated digital cameras; avoid dropping or subjecting the device to impacts.
    • Battery replacement should only be performed by a service professional to avoid the risk of explosion.
