Overview

This document is an owner's manual and safety instructions for the Fortress Ultra Quiet Series 26 Gallon Oil-Free Portable Air Compressor, model 57336.

Function Description:

The Fortress Ultra Quiet Series Air Compressor is a portable, oil-free air compressor designed to provide compressed air for various applications. It operates automatically, controlled by an internal pressure switch, turning on when air pressure drops to 135 PSI and turning off when it reaches 175 PSI. The compressor is equipped with a power switch, tank gauge, regulator, outlet gauge, air outlets, a safety valve, and a drain valve. It features a hose hook for convenient storage of the air hose. The compressor is designed for use with air tools and can be integrated into both portable and stationary air supply setups, allowing for the connection of various accessories like filters, regulators, lubricators, and dryers to optimize air quality and tool performance.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Rating: 120VAC / 60Hz / 15A
  • Air Outlet Size: 1/4"-18 NPT
  • Air Pressure (Shut-off): 175 PSI
  • Air Pressure (Restart): 135 PSI
  • Air Tank Capacity: 26 Gallons
  • Air Flow Capacity: 4.5 SCFM @ 90 PSI
  • Sound Level: 69 dBA @ 3'
  • Tank Output Pressure Regulation: 155 PSI +/- 5 PSI (to prevent damage to air tools)

Usage Features:

The compressor is designed for ease of use and portability.

  • Setup: Before operation, the compressor should be placed on a flat, level surface with at least 12 inches of space around it for air circulation. The drain valve should be closed, and the in-line shutoff valve (if used) should be closed. The power cord is a 3-prong grounded plug, requiring a matching 120 VAC grounded electrical outlet.
  • Operation: To start, pull the ring on the safety valve to release any residual pressure, then turn the power switch ON (AUTO). The compressor will build pressure until it cycles off. The regulator allows adjustment of the air output pressure to match the tool's requirements, ensuring it does not exceed the tool's maximum air pressure. Once the desired pressure is set, the air tool can be connected, and the in-line shutoff valve opened.
  • Safety: The manual emphasizes critical safety warnings, including preventing fire/explosion risks (avoiding flammable liquids in confined areas, maintaining distance from explosive vapors), bursting risks (not adjusting regulator higher than attachment's max pressure), and injury risks (not directing air stream at people/animals, not using for breathing air). It also warns against leaving the compressor unattended while plugged in and highlights that the compressor head gets hot during operation.
  • Extension Cords: While not recommended, if an extension cord must be used, specific guidelines for minimum wire gauge based on nameplate amperes and cord length are provided to prevent power loss and overheating.
  • Emergency Depressurization: In case of emergency, the compressor can be quickly depressurized by turning the power switch OFF and pulling the ring on the safety valve.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the compressor's longevity and safe operation.

  • Daily Maintenance:
    • Ensure all nuts and bolts are tight.
    • Drain moisture from the air tank. This is a critical step to prevent internal rust and tank failure, and should be done daily after use. To drain, turn off the power, place a collection pan under the drain valve, open the valve, and tilt the compressor forward.
    • Check for abnormal noise or vibration.
    • Check for air leaks by applying soapy water to joints while pressurized and looking for bubbles.
    • Wipe off any oil or dirt from the compressor.
  • Weekly Maintenance:
    • Inspect the Air Filter. To clean, remove the air inlet filters and cover, then use pressurized air (no more than 15 PSI) to blow dust out of the filter in a well-ventilated area, wearing appropriate PPE. Replace clean filters and covers.
  • Monthly Maintenance:
    • Inspect the Safety Valve.
  • General Inspection: Before each use, a general inspection for loose hardware, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition affecting safe operation is recommended.
  • Automatic Shut-off System: The manual describes troubleshooting steps if the compressor repeatedly shuts off before reaching its normal cutoff pressure, attributing it to issues like long/narrow extension cords, air leaks, or rapid power cycling.
  • Cleaning: After each use, external surfaces should be wiped with a clean cloth, using a mild detergent or solvent if necessary.
  • Repairs: Any repairs or replacement of damaged components, especially the supply cord, must be performed by a qualified service technician. The manual explicitly states that the manufacturer/distributor does not warrant that the buyer is qualified to make repairs and that all repairs should be undertaken by certified and licensed technicians.
