Wireless Range Extender

Plug in your wi extender

Normal:

Plug in the power and wait for 5

senconds. The 2 WiFi (2.4G and 5G)

light will turn green.

This document describes the Foscam Wireless Range Extender, a device designed to boost Wi-Fi signals for both 2.4G and 5G networks.

Function Description:

The Foscam Wireless Range Extender serves to expand the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network. It receives the signal from a host router and re-transmits it, effectively eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones and improving signal strength in areas with weak coverage. It supports both 2.4G and 5G frequency bands, offering flexibility depending on the user's existing network and device capabilities. The device operates in "Extender Mode," meaning it acts as a relay to extend the range of an existing Wi-Fi network.

Important Technical Specifications:

Supported Wi-Fi Bands: 2.4G and 5G.
Default IP Address for Management Page: 192.168.188.1.
Default Password for Management Page: "admin".
Extender SSID Naming Convention: The extended network SSIDs will typically be named based on the original SSID with a "-pro-2.4G" or "-pro-5G" suffix (e.g., if the original SSID is "sohowifi," the extended SSIDs might be "sohowifi-pro-2.4G" and "sohowifi-pro-5G").
Reset Functionality: A "Reset" button is available on the side of the product for restoring default settings.

Usage Features:

Initial Setup (Mobile Phone/PC Setup):

Plug in the Extender: Connect the device to a power outlet. Wait approximately 5 seconds for the 2.4G and 5G Wi-Fi lights to turn green, indicating readiness. If the lights do not turn green, press and hold the "Reset" button for more than 8 seconds.
Connect to Extender SSID: On your mobile phone or PC, connect to one of the extender's default SSIDs, typically named "wifi-2.4g-xxxx" or "wifi-5g-xxxx," where "xxxx" represents the last four letters of the device's MAC address (found on the back of the product). Note that internet access will not be available at this stage.
Access Management Page: Open a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and navigate to the management page by entering http://192.168.188.1 in the address bar. In most cases, the device should automatically redirect to the management page upon connecting to its SSID.
Enter Default Password: When prompted, enter the default password "admin" to log in to the management page.
Scan and Select Host Router SSID: The extender will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select the SSID of your main host router (the network you wish to extend) from the list. The device supports extending both 2.4G and 5G networks, allowing you to choose one for extension at a time.
Enter Host Router Password: Input the password for your selected host router. Ensure the password is correct and avoid using special characters like "%".
Set Extender SSID and Password: You will be prompted to set the SSIDs and passwords for the extended networks. By default, the extender will suggest names like "original SSID+Pro+2.4G/5G." You can change these names and set a new password for the extended networks. The default password for the extender is "abc123321" but it is recommended to change it. There's also an option for a hidden network.
Check Details and Connect: Review the wireless information (Host Router Name, Extender Name 2.4G, Extender Name 5G, Extender Password). After confirming the details, click "Start Connect" and wait for 30-60 seconds for the extender to apply the settings.
Wait for Extender Light: After the settings are applied, wait 30-40 seconds for the extender's light to turn on. A lit light indicates successful relay.
Confirmation of Success: The light on the extender will illuminate, signifying that the Extender Mode has been successfully configured.
Reconnect to Extender Wi-Fi: Disconnect from the extender's temporary SSID and reconnect to the newly created extended Wi-Fi network (e.g., "sohowifi-pro-2.4G" or "sohowifi-pro-5G") to access the internet.

Important Notes during Usage:

Internet Access during Setup: You cannot surf the internet until all setup steps are completed.
Channel Interference: If both 2.4G and 5G networks are extended, different channels working together might interfere with the signal, potentially slowing down the network speed. It is advised to change the main router channel if this occurs.
Password Characters: When entering the host router's password, avoid special characters like "%".
Hidden Networks: The setup process includes a step to check if the network is hidden before expanding the connection.

Maintenance Features:

Reset Button: If the extender encounters issues or if you wish to reconfigure it from scratch, pressing and holding the "Reset" button for more than 8 seconds will restore the device to its factory default settings. This is useful for troubleshooting or when changing the host router.
Signal Indicator: The device has a signal indicator light. If it lights up after configuration, it means the relay is successful. If it does not light up, it indicates a problem with the relay, and reconnection to "CSG-pro" (the extended network) or re-setup might be necessary.
